Frequently asked questions

The New Nintendo 3DS XL, including the Solgaleo Lunala Black Edition, offers several improvements over previous models. These include enhanced 3D technology for a more stable image, a faster processor for quicker loading times, additional control options thanks to the added ZL and ZR buttons, a C-Stick for more precise movement, and built-in NFC support for amiibo figures. The overall performance and gameplay experience are significantly improved in comparison to older 3DS models.

The Solgaleo Lunala Black Edition of the New Nintendo 3DS XL does not typically come with any pre-installed games. This special edition console features exclusive artwork of the legendary Pokémon Solgaleo and Lunala from the Pokémon Sun and Moon games, but the games themselves need to be purchased separately.

The New Nintendo 3DS XL, including the Solgaleo Lunala Black Edition, is region-locked. This means you can only play games that are specifically designed for the region in which your console was purchased. For example, a console bought in North America will only play games from North America.

Yes, the New Nintendo 3DS XL Solgaleo Lunala Black Edition is compatible with all 3DS games, including those designed specifically for the New 3DS platform, as well as most DS and DSi games. However, it cannot play games that require special hardware, like the Game Boy Advance game slot.

🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The New 3DS XL has garnered positive reviews for its design and functionality. Users appreciate the sleek glossy and matte black design, improved physical feature layout including the relocated game card slot, sound slider, joystick, and power button, which enhances the overall gaming experience. Built-in support for amiibos and the ability to play games without problems even if initially intended for a non-US market are also highlighted. However, the glossy black surface is prone to fingerprints and smudging, and it's been noted that it does not come with a power adapter/charger, a common practice for Nintendo but a point of consideration for new buyers.

Pros

  • 🎮 Sleek design with glossy and matte black finish
  • 👍 Improved physical feature layout for a better gaming experience
  • ✔️ Built-in support for amiibos
  • 🌎 Flexible region settings allow playing games internationally
  • 🔋 Compatible with older model chargers

Cons

  • ✋ Glossy surface attracts fingerprints and smudges
  • ⚡ Does not come with a power adapter/charger

Should I Buy It?

If you're a fan of the 3DS series or looking for a durable handheld gaming console with a sleek design and improved ergonomics, the New 3DS XL is a worthy upgrade. Its minor drawbacks, such as the fingerprint magnet case and the absence of a charger, are easily outweighed by its enhanced gaming experience and design improvements. Just make sure to have a charger on hand or be prepared to purchase one separately.

  • Awesome Look, Better Physical Feature Layout
As with many of these New 3DS XLs, this is about the design, not the actual product. The product is the same as every other New 3DS XL out there. This one comes in a glossy black (top and bottom) shell and a matte black inside. The design on both sides (top and bottom) are awesome and really make playing Sun and Moon that much more fun. The biggest down side is that the glossy black is a HUGE fingerprint and smudge magnet. You will be CONSTANTLY wiping this down (if you're even slightly OCD like me) to keep it clean. Another down side is that, for the same price as the older 3DS XLs, this one DOES NOT come with a power adapter/wall charger. Fortunately, it keeps the same charging port and charging system as older models, so if you are upgrading from a prior model you likely already have the correct charger for it. Other than the design, this is the same quality hardware you would expect from Nintendo with any other New 3DS XL. If you have an older-model 3DS (and/or XL), and are debating whether the "New" model is worth upgrading to (as I certainly did), let me say this about the new design: it is not just about the new analog stick or the RFID/Amiibo compatibility, though Nintendo likes to tout those features heavily. This New 3DS XL has a few basic design features that really make it worthwhile. The first improvement they offer is that the game card slot is no longer center rear. It is now in the front of the bottom part of the unit and off to the left. So now, when I grab my 3DS XL to pick it up, I never have to fear about accidentally pushing/ejecting the game cartridge. This one feature alone is a big improvement for me. Other physical improvements involve the location of the sound slider, joystick, and power button; they have all been moved to places I think they are much better suited and make more sense. ... show more

  • Works Great!
Ok don’t get scared reading the reviews of some people saying that they got a non US 3ds and they can’t play their games. It’s true that in the box it says it’s from Singapore, but all you have to is start it up and switch the country to US if you want. I’m playing Pokémon sun and Animal crossing with no problems at all. The device came quick and it came with no scratches or anything. Overall very pleased with this purchase :) ... show more

  • Best handheld console, but tiny storage space and no charger a major bummer.
I knew before purchasing this item what I was getting. I had the old 3DS XL (The special Pokemon edition for X/Y), but with the release of Sun and Moon, I felt some major slow-downs, especially during double battles, and I knew it was time to upgrade. So, I waited for the release of the Pokemon edition of the new 3DS XL, and I was very excited to see it come to North America. I've used my old 3DS a lot, so I knew what I was getting into. It performs really well and looks great doing it. I'm not happy with the new placement of the stylus, but moving the power button, start/select buttons, and volume slider was a great idea. Definitely a step up from the older 3DS XL overall. The only thing I did not know was storage space. My old 3DS had a a 32GB SD card that I was able to digitally download all my games to. It fit all my Pokemon games pretty nicely, and I like having games digital so that I don't have to switch cartridges. This 4GB microSD card that came with the New 3DS didn't even fit Pokemon Moon. It's way way way way to tiny. I had to go through the hassle of formatting one of my other microSD cards (256 GB) to work properly on this console, so now I have the space I need plus a ton of wiggle room. I was disappointed to have to go through that since it should have at least came with a 16-32 GB microSD card. I did read online before hand that it didn't come with a charger. Total bummer, especially if you are buying this console for the first time, seeing how you need the charger to play it. It's like buying an Xbox or PS4 without the power cords. It's just selfish and unheard of. TL;DR: Amazing console, performs faster, looks great, and Nintendo did a good job reinventing the 3DS to make it work way way way better. New button placement is good, but the stylus no longer feels natural to pull out. You will need to buy the charger separately and most likely a larger microSD card, as the one it comes with is only 4GB, which won't fit Pokemon Sun/Moon. Definitely a great buy, but Nintendo could afford to not be so cheap with add-ons. ... show more

  • Yes, it has a UAE sticker on the box. No, that doesn't matter.
As many of the reviews have indicated, this 3DS is/was intended for the UAE/Malaysia market. It could reasonably be considered misleading to not mention that in the description, but given that this is currently the cheapest way to get a New 3DS XL NIB I'm willing to forgive. As long as you select NA/USA (or whatever region you're playing in), you won't have problems. I transferred my system settings/account/games from an old model 3DS to this one with no issues. I can play any game with no issues. I can use the eshop, again, with no issues. The only negative is if it ever needs to be sent to Nintendo for service, in which case it would have to be handled by the UAE/Malaysia distributor. Given how 3DSes tend to outlast manufacturer warranties (did I mention my original 2011 model 3DS is still working? Or original 2004 model DS, for that matter?), this seems like a moot point. Buy with confidence, but make sure to get a charger if you don't have any spares. Not coming with a charger is perhaps my only real gripe. ... show more
