  • Quality Filament Dryer At A Good Price
Color: Filadryer S2 Black
I purchased the Sunlu FilaDryer S2 to work with my Creality K1 3D printer. Filament that has absorbed moisture from the air can cause a number of different problems while 3D printing and this dryer helps to avoid those problems. The unit has a clean and simple design. The lid opens easily and the display has large, backlit characters that are easy to read. Inside, it has both top and bottom heating elements to uniformly heat the filament and reduce its moisture content. The unit has two rollers for the spool of filament to set on and allow the filament spool to easily rotate if you choose to feed directly from the filament dryer to your 3D printer. Other reviewers have commented that the dryer is noisy - but I have not noticed that issue. I used the dryer on a roll of Hyper PLA filament that came with my K1 printer. It started out at 40% relative humidity that was reduced to 23% within two hours. There are some areas for possible improvement. Documentation is poor - both in what is supplied with the dryer and even more lacking on the Sunlu website. For example, some of the symbols on the display and the use of the silica packets supplied with the dryer are not described at all. A few more openings for direct feed to 3D printers would be helpful to reduce sharp turns for the filament. On my dryer, the ON/OFF button is somewhat stubborn requiring multiple button presses to activate. Overall - I'm happy with the dryer and feel it is a solid product at a reasonable price. ... show more

  • Works well, has some caveats and UI has some rough edges
Color: Filadryer S2 Black
The filament dryer is compact and a nice clean little setup. The display is bright and easy to read, and it generally seems to work well. There is a fistful of dessicant packs inside the dryer, and I wasn't sure if it was just for packing or if they are to help with storing filament in the dryer. Turns out it is the latter. The packs eventually soak up water and can be "recharged" by baking them to have them release the moisture. Originally I tried drying out a roll of PETG that had been sitting out for a couple of weeks, and I decided to add the dessicant packs into the dryer (it was drying at 50c, which is still safe for the paper packs). The first thing I noticed is that there isn't a built in cutoff for turning off the dryer if you open the lid. The inside doesn't get dangerously hot, so it wasn't a big deal. What surprised me is that once I put in the dessicant packs, the relative humidity went from 78% up into the 90-something percent. So it seems that those packs had absorbed a bunch of water and were releasing it again once heated. It took probably 5-6 hours before the packs seemed to have dried out and the relative humidity in the dryer went back down to 73% (the ambient humidity at the time). So, the quick lesson is, dry out those dessicant packs before you try to dry any filament - otherwise they'll just release moisture into the dryer while you're trying to dry out your filament! The instructions that come with the unit were pretty minimal, the online instructions were better but the controls for turning on the LED light ring are blended in with the controls for turning the drying function on and off. I was expecting to find a seperate button or screen control for turn the drying function on and off, but you have to use the LED (on/off) settings to turn the dryer on and off. You also need to press the power "on/off" button twice to turn on the power for the dryer, which is kind of weird and non-intuitive. Overall, I think this filament dryer is a winner, and aside from the caveats about drying out the dessicant packages before drying your filament, and some non-intuitive design choices in the UI, its a good investment for 3D printer owners. Way better than baking your filament in the oven! ... show more

  • A lot better than most, 70c setting is the ticket to proper drying. Defiantly recommended
Color: Filadryer S2 Black
I have two other ~"50c" dryers and they do ok. I kept reading that you really need higher than 50C to really get dry filament so I thought I'd give this a try. AS it turns out it works great! Spend the extra money and get this higher temp one. Also, if you're on the fence about frying your filament, you need to. Half my filament I buy is super wet out of the box and it shows in the prints. Not only does the surface/outer layer look much better and more consistent you have more consistent adhesion. Gripes: - Base is narrow and tips over easily - IMO it should be cheaper, I got it on sale and I was still a little reluctant - the menu isn't great, there is no set button, you just change settings. the presets aren't correct either. - On mine, the on/off button in the corner of the screen doesn't read my touch correctly so turning it on and off is a royal pain. I need to see if they'll warranty it - The fan is a little noisy, not loud though, a different brand one I have is a lot louder Overall I think it's worth getting if you're ok with the price. Having the higher temp goes a long way. I think in 3D printing we blame too many settings without checking how wet the filament is and it just makes things worse, start with good, dry filament. ... show more

  • Good dryer for spools
Color: Filadryer S2 Black
I use mine directly to the 3D printer so when I print it has low humidity, the PLA spool is on 50C° I don't know how other 3d printer users set it but on my house and the humidity there is on Puerto Rico for me is a must. Is easy to use, my print quality is better than before and it tangles if not set right so organize your space so you don't have any problems. Right now the humidity is on 60 I have turn it on five minutes before of this review it usually gets down on mine to 38-40 percent of humidity I saw on Youtube videos that the best is 20 but I haven't get that lecture on my sensor and dont want to keep turning up the heat and damage the PLA the one I use right now is Elegoo. ... show more

  • Simple and effective
Color: Filadryer S2 Black
I was having issues with one roll of PETG that I hadn't had before, bought this and ran a 12 hour drying cycle, realized I've never really experienced dry filament before. Zits were gone, stringing was almost floaters at best. This thing has saved a lot of rolls of filament so far.
