Top Amazon Reviews

🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The OVERTURE PLA Filament for 3D Printing has received mostly positive reviews from users due to its high precision and versatile compatibility with most FDM printers. It is commended for its tangle-free spooling, reliable and consistent printing, as well as being eco-friendly and affordable. However, some users expressed issues with tangling and jamming on the spool and a few concerns about the fiber board spool.

Pros

 • 🎯 High Dimensional Accuracy
 • 🔗 Universal Compatibility with FDM printers
 • ⛓ Tangle-free Spooling
 • 🔄 Consistent Printing Quality
 • 🌿 Eco-friendly Material
 • 💰 Offers Good Value for Money

Cons

 • 🌀 Some reports of tangling/jamming on the spool
 • 💽 Some users prefer plastic spools over fiber board ones
 • 💾 Fiber board spools considered flimsy by some users

Should I Buy It?

Given the overall positive feedback, the OVERTURE PLA Filament comes highly recommended for individuals involved in 3D printing, both beginners and experienced makers. While there are minor concerns about the filament tangling and the type of spool, its precision, compatibility, reliability, and eco-friendliness more than make up for these issues. Its affordability alone makes it a smart investment.

 • Finally Producing Some Useable Prints — But Looking for a Solution
Color: Silk Gold
I must give this company 5 stars for their high level of support which goes beyond what other filament suppliers might do when there are problems. In fact It may be that my own printer (Ender 3 Pro) is what’s responsible for the issues which kept me initially from being able to get any successful prints out of this purchase. I contacted the company and was offered a replacement roll as well as graciously sending me the recommended slicer settings. Iris has been patient and helpful. Thus far I’ve been able to successfully print some small pieces from the replacement roll using a seemingly endless number of variations of slicer settings. It is possible that the original roll may have been from a bad batch or maybe something changed on my printer which just happened to coincide with the purchase and use of this filament or maybe the Gold Silk just happens to be much trickier to work with than other materials. It is significant that when printing the same parts with the same printer, all other PLA and SILK filaments including one other Overture filament, always print perfectly for me without any clogging of the hot end. But as soon as I switch to the Overture Silk Gold, it is difficult to get a decent print. It’s perhaps a significant fact that printing with the replacement roll did somewhat decrease the frequency of clogging. Also changing the various parameters in Cura and running seemingly endless test prints on each change over the last few weeks has resulted in being able to successfully printed some objects. Take what you can from this incomplete write-up, because I am still unable to determine whether this material just doesn’t tolerate retraction or if indeed there is a problem with my printer. I don’t know. I will continue to try some other use cases with the replacement roll and (who knows?) future experience might reveal what is truly happening. All I can say for now is If you do buy this product, experienced it clogging your hot end as I have, and found a work around, I’d be very interested in knowing what the solution turned out to be. …will update this if the Gold Silk printing issue is solved 🥴. Here is a quick update to the above write-up, many months later…. I have found a compromise in printing with this filament. Cura settings: temp <195, max speed= 12mm/sec., flow 97%, cool =100%, retract < 0.8mm (I realize this is painfully slow and stringing is a mess. But with some clean-up afterward it is probably worth the effort.). Here is my taco holder design printed with this filament. ... show more

 • Lovely light brown.
Color: Brown
This filament is the brown I used for Grogu's robe; aside from being a nice color on its own, the shade goes very well with the filaments from Sunlu's Meta line (I used "apple green" and "pink" in this print). Overture at its normal price is a bit expensive for me, but on sale it was a great deal. It prints well on my Bambu Lab A1 Mini using Bambu Studio's "generic PLA" profile, though (at least when printing with a .4 mm nozzle at a .16 mm layer height) I had to increase "top Z" distance from .16 mm to .2 mm to make the supports easier to remove. For this print, I supported the robe under the collar and under the raised arm, but I couldn't find a way to support the cuff on the lowered arm in a way that let me remove the support without snapping off his middle finger; I was pleased to find this filament did quite a respectable job on the overhang even so (see pics). To be clear, I did support the fingertips, just not the cuff in front or behind them. I defintely didn't get a ruler, build surface, or opaque bag like some reviewers did; packaging must have changed sometime in the last five years. I really appreciate the thoroughness of the spool sticker in giving not only the recommended printing temperatures, but also the recommended print speed and empty spool weight. Some brands of filament don't list spool weight anywhere, meaning you have to eyeball whether there's enough filament left on a roll to finish a print. Ugh. I also like the fact that the spools are cardboard, since 3d printing creates enough waste already. (Yes, PLA is theoretically recyclable, but you can't recycle it at most municipal recycling facilities.) However, it's my understanding that cardboard doesn't necessarily play nice with certain printers in which the roll rests on a surface rather than being suspended from a bar through its middle; I can't speak to whether the "upgraded reinforced edges" Overture touts fix that issue. ... show more

Works great. Pieces look really good. I had a tangle on the 1st spool, but not sure if i didn't do that when I set it up.

 • Strange PLA filament
I've got the Silk Silver PLA and I gotta say this stuff is strange. Pros: - Semi-gloss appearance! Hard to come by as most silk filaments are super reflective, amplifying any surface defects. I wish more semi-gloss filaments are on market. - Light silver color is neat, looks like steel. Cons: - It curls slightly for slender and long prints. PLA prints shouldn't curl at all, period. - Bed adhesion is subpar, esp. for small first layers. You can make it work, but I haven't change PLA settings in a long time as other brands just work. - It's LIGHTER than other PLA filaments in weight? Very strange and prints feel hollower as a result. I have a universal PLA profile for a couple of go-to brands, which I can easily use the same gcode for different color filaments to make the same items. Inconveniently, this weird filament requires me to tweak settings for its own gcode for okay results. I got this for the color but that's about it. ... show more

 • Great quality for a great price
Color: Silk Gold
This product is easy to use and product label gives you the correct temperature range and has a great look when printed. Overture is very transparent in describing their product. The filament is top quality and get no stringing when printing.

 • You get what you pay for
Color: Black*2 & White*2
I have a Bambu Lab printer and usually use MatterHackers filament. Decided to try this one because the price seemed great. If it's too good to be true, it usually is. That was the case here. The first couple of layers come out fine, but then it peels away from the plate and you end up with a mess of spaghetti unless you're there to stop it. Lesson learned ... show more
