🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The OVERTURE PLA Filament for 3D Printing has received mostly positive reviews from users due to its high precision and versatile compatibility with most FDM printers. It is commended for its tangle-free spooling, reliable and consistent printing, as well as being eco-friendly and affordable. However, some users expressed issues with tangling and jamming on the spool and a few concerns about the fiber board spool.

Pros

  • 🎯 High Dimensional Accuracy
  • 🔗 Universal Compatibility with FDM printers
  • ⛓ Tangle-free Spooling
  • 🔄 Consistent Printing Quality
  • 🌿 Eco-friendly Material
  • 💰 Offers Good Value for Money

Cons

  • 🌀 Some reports of tangling/jamming on the spool
  • 💽 Some users prefer plastic spools over fiber board ones
  • 💾 Fiber board spools considered flimsy by some users

Should I Buy It?

Given the overall positive feedback, the OVERTURE PLA Filament comes highly recommended for individuals involved in 3D printing, both beginners and experienced makers. While there are minor concerns about the filament tangling and the type of spool, its precision, compatibility, reliability, and eco-friendliness more than make up for these issues. Its affordability alone makes it a smart investment.

  • Great Price and Great Filament
Color: 1kg White
Summary: This filament prints great despite being the cheapest filament I bought. I still prefer other brands of PLA, but will definitely keep Overture in mind when I need a lot of PLA for cheap. I got this filament to quickly print some dice boxes for my DnD players. It got the job done quite well and definitely made me consider getting Overture in the future when I need a lot of PLA. However, I tend to prefer Bambu PLA because it lets me get the most out of my printer and prints a bit easier. Plus, buying the bulk refills makes the prices more comparable. ... show more

  • Bang for buck, very decent
Color: 1kg White
For the price I got it at, it is an absolute steal. Very functional filament that would fit most needs. Make sure to dry it though because it becomes quite brittle.

  • It's Amazing
Color: 1kg White
I switched from ABS to PLA, and this is my first time trying PLA. I love the printing quality and I'm getting less failed prints (don't know if it's because of the brand or because it's PLA). But the filament is cut in some places. I try to print something, and i come back to find the printer not printing because the filament was cut off. It's not a huge big problem, but it is getting on my way. I will order again because I've never had this problem with their ABS filament, I hope the second one won't be like this, and this was just a faulty one. Update: I haven't had any more cuts so fat, and I have never had a failed print. Not a single one. I am so satisfied with this product :) ... show more

  • A bit stringy
Color: Space Gray 2-pack
This filament is absolutely phenomenal for simple polygonal parts that are designed for primarily structural use. It is very strong compared to other filaments I have used, with a massive amount of cohesion between layers. Hollow parts with this material are stronger than a lot of infill parts I have made with other filaments. the colors are also great and the bed adhesion is absurd. A little brake cleaner on my glass bed and a proper leveling and it just absolutely sticks. Prints will NOT come off until the bed cools to ambient. That being said, it is very stringy. Absolutely terrible for high resolution or detailed pieces like artwork. I spent quite a bit of time adjusting settings and even did a full maintenance on my printer to try to improve the results but minimal results. I found disabling Z-hop, lowering retraction distance, and increasing retraction speed brought the most improvements but still did not make it suitable for such prints. Even at extremely minimal speeds it doesn't cut it. In fact, I think it got worse at lower speeds as I suspect that allowed more time for it to string and ooze about. I know this isnt my printer as some all3d and mika3d filament has worked fantastically for me before. [Creality CR-10S] Dont get me wrong though this is great filament for the specific task I mentioned, it proved to be very suitable for socket trays. Just don't expect it to be a good fit every print. ... show more

  • Updated Review: Great product, just be careful with your retraction settings.
Color: Silk Copper
UPDATE: I found that this filament needs slightly lower retraction settings than I use on other silk filaments, and I had to disable z-hop as well. The z-hop (because its a vertical motor movement, which takes longer than X & Y) would take a fraction of a second before actually moving out of the Z axis. And this fraction of a second let some filament ooze out of the nozzle, which over several layers would result in long blob strings building up over time (seen in the retraction towers photo). I've uploaded some more recent photos that are 100x better (though there's still a slight bit of stringing, its such a minor amount that it doesn't bother me). I've attached photos of the material settings I had to make for overture silk filaments. Hopefully it helps others. Leaving my below (now inaccurate) review in case it's similar to the experience someone else may be having. ORIGINAL (Inaccurate) REVIEW: I personally really like Overtures PLA filaments. I would say maybe 1/3rd of my filaments are from them. And I've printed a decent amount of silk PLA as well (just not Overture brand). I purchased the Overture Silk Copper PLA filament, and the first thing I printed was a filament sample. And the majority of the surface looked ok except for the one spot with the letters "PLA". I figured maybe it was just something minor and went on to try printing a turbine for a model of a jet engine, and as you can see in the photos, it was absolutely disastrous. I put it next to another silk print of the same part and print settings (I actually just reprinted the same model/gcode after changing the filament. I dried the filament then tried increasing/decreasing the temperature, retraction distance/speed, print speed, z-offset, and tried printing various calibration towers for speed, temperature and retraction. And the globing/stringing is present. I Googled "overture silk PLA issues" and it looks like this is a somewhat common problem with Overtures silk PLA filaments. I will still continue to buy from Overture, but not for silk filaments. If I ever find a combination of settings that prevent these issues, I will be sure to update this post with those values. Thanks. ... show more

  • Amazing Quality

  • A great, reliable filament!
Color: 1kg Black
I have bought this filament around 20 times (and sell products I make with it on Etsy), so I consider myself a semi-expert. Every time, this filament has had great quality with my 3d printers. It doesn't bunch up or become goopy or have any crackling noises when coming out the nozzle (a sign of bad filament). It comes packaged well, and with a little silica gel packet to ensure freshness (I know is not a fruit or something, but 😅) on arrival. The black and white colors are the ones I have bought the most, but I have tried some of the other colors as well, and they do not cease to amaze me either. It's also very high quality, especially for its lower price filament-wise. I have put this filament through so many different tests, that whenever somethings wrong, I just assume its my printer's fault! I give my recommendation to anyone just starting out, and looking to buy some filament or a veteran of 3D printing tying some new options. 10/10 ... show more
