  • Works great, just make sure to follow instructions.
Most excellent water heater for tea. All the hotels have those k-cup makers now, and I can't heat up water to make a cup of tea. This heats the water in a ceramic mug almost as fast as I can get my tea box out of my luggage. Just follow the instructions to only plug/unplug it WHILE IT IS IMMERSED and you can't miss. It has a fuse that is designed to break the circuit if it's not immersed so that it can't start a fire. The first time you plug/unplug it when it's not immersed, it's going to pop, and that's that. It's a great little travel appliance if you use it properly. ... show more

  • Get a Norpro!
Item Package Quantity: 1
Norpro We have used immersion heaters to make tea and coffee for more than forty years; while some brands do fail, we suspect that in the majority of cases, it is often not the immersion heater that is defective but rather the user. That is, if the coil is ALWAYS immersed--covered by water--BEFORE it is plugged in, and left under water for at least fifteen or twenty seconds AFTER unplugging--the coils can function for several years. The Norpro seems to be the best of the bunch; we have three, and they all work fine. (We also have purchased the Lewis N. Clark heater, which took about 10 minutes to barely heat a cup of water.). By contrast, the Norpro heats 1 cup of water in about 2 1/2 minutes, and a 16-ounce mug in about twice that time. While the water immediately surrounding the immersion heater does boil in that time, the rest of the water is 'merely' hot enough to scald one's lips, which is plenty hot enough to make tea, instant coffee, or pour over a bowl of instant noodles. (Never stick the immersion heater into anything but water. Heat the water first; remove the coil; use the scalding water however it may suit your needs.). Note that the plastic 'clip' fits the rim of most 6-8 oz. cups, but rarely fits over the rim of a larger mug. Don't risk electric shock, or ruining the heater, by dropping it into an over-sized mug with water 'over its head'! (However, one can stick a metal skewer in the space between the coils, extend the skewer all the way across the mug's rim, thus suspending the immersion heater at the proper level to heat the water.) Of course, the clip alone works fine with a standard size cup. Norpro is truly an asset 'on the road,' but we rely on their cup heater at home, too! ... show more

  • Bought A Second For My Nightstand
Item Package Quantity: 1
I don't like lukewarm tea. Was constantly traipsing back to the microwave. Got the first one of these for my office to keep the second half of my morning cuppa hot. It worked so well I got a second for the evening chamomile on my nightstand. Heats VERY fast. If you don't keep an eye on it it will get too hot. So, why four stars instead of five? Having to plug it in each time you use it and unplug it when you're done is a bother. It needs a switch--would be so simple for them to offer a version with one. I know, because I modified both of mine so all I need to do is switch them on and off (see pic). I found these 10 amp switches (four times the amperage of the heater), on Amazon for ninety-nine cents. Installation is easy. https://www.amazon.com/Switch-Line-Bedside-Latern-Indicator/dp/B07BVQ81HH/ref=sr_1_14?keywords=10A+switch&qid=1564591635&s=gateway&sr=8-14 ... show more

  • Heats very quick! Love!
This little guy heats up cold water to a boil in a flash! However, beware that the clip that holds it on a mug is sharp! I got quite a deep cut from it. I will have the hubby sand the sharp edge. Love it, cut it no cut!

  • I just received this Norpro heater and it seems to work just fine. As recommended
I have carried an immersion heater for years and left it in a motel room last month. I just received this Norpro heater and it seems to work just fine. As recommended, follow the instruction and DO NOT plug it in when it is not in water, and UNPLUG it before you remove it from water. I hope this one will last as long as the one I lost. Time will tell. ... show more

  • Blast from the past that is just as great a device today
Item Package Quantity: 1
The design of this little device has been around at least 40 years, and it is quite convenient and portable. It fits easily into a small purse and is perfect for heating up plain drinks such as coffee and tea right at your desk at work. Note that it is not recommended to use this device to warm up food products like soup. Also be aware of the fill line on the device. Do not immerse it in water above that line. Do not immerse the plastic portion that is used to clip the device to your cup. You must always keep this device immersed in water while you plug it in, use it, and as you unplug it, or you will destroy it. There is enough cord to conveniently plug in this device at a nearby outlet at your desk or kitchen table. All in all, this is a terrific little gadget. ... show more

  • Worth the Purchase!
I was thankful for all the reviews and answered questions before purchasingrthis product. It really heats up fast. . .but do follow the directions. Place in the liquid BEFORE plugging it in and unplug BEFORE taking it out of the liquid. I am pleased with my purchase.

  • AWESOME Product!
I bought this on the advice of an experienced world traveler. BEST ADVICE EVER! I was leaving for a 15 day tour of Croatia and Italy. I did not want to bring my usual water boiler as it took too much room in my luggage and I do not trust hotel room water boilers to be "clean". This little doo-hickey did the trick. I brought with me a ceramic mug, placed water in it, submerged the portable reheater in the water and plugged it in. N.B.: You will need an electrical converter if you use this overseas and it worked wonderfully well with my converter. You will also need to make sure the gadget is submerged in water before plugging it in. Finally, you should use the product with a ceramic mug, not a paper or plastic one as we're talking about high heat here. I wrapped my ceramic mug amongst my socks and underwear to protect it and because I was worried about overweight luggage coming home, it was one of the items I dumped in my hotel room before leaving Italy. I actually washed it and left it in the room with a note to the housekeeper that she could keep it as a gift along with my usual tip. For this reason, I advise travelers to use an extra mug you can do without just in case of breakage along the way or if you have to dump it before coming home. ... show more
