  • Seems Like a Good Player
This is my first portable DVD player. I went with the Naviskauto because I wanted a Blu-ray player, and it had the features I wanted at a reasonable price and desirable screen size, with decent reviews. So far I've only tested it for functionality and haven't used it to watch a full move, so I can't comment on battery life. But I don't expect powering it to be a problem, with both a regular power cord and one for the car (a main use will be allowing my daughter to watch movies on long trips), as well as supposedly decent battery life, based on other reviews. Though one confusing thing is the directions never say anything about charging it, and even say you shouldn't unplug it when watching a movie. But I did when testing it and it still worked, and given that there's a light on it to show when it's charging, I'm confident it will have adequate battery life. The features themselves are pretty standard. The remote has all the controls you will need, though there are basic buttons for play, stop, fast forward, and reverse on the unit itself, as well as mode and setup buttons. Navigating around in movies is easy, and it even has a nice "goto" feature to pick a specific time point. It also can restart a movie from where it was stopped, though I didn't try this after turning the player off. There are nice additional buttons on the remote such as turning subtitles on and off, and some others. Picture and sound are what you would expect on a portable player. Nothing that is going to blow you away, but the picture was clear and the sound was fine, with a good volume without having to turn it up very much. Headphones also sounded fine. It has internet but only through an ethernet cable (as advertised). Having wi-fi would be nice for some Blu-ray features, but I've never honestly used those much and don't think I'd really need them when we're watching movies on the go. Another nice feature is it can read USB and SD cards and play a variety of formats. On a USB drive (I haven't tried an SD card yet), it was able to read an .mkv file I made from one of my DVDs and an .flv and .mp4 file downloaded from the internet. Though another .mp4 file I tried had an audio codec that it couldn't process, so there was no sound (only video). Also, it does not read exFAT-formatted drives. A little icon pops up as if it's reading the drive, but then it's not listed when you go to the Media Center screen, so you can't access it. I had to format the USB drive with NTFS to see the files. I didn't test FAT but the 4 GB file limit for that would exclude some DVD and any Blu-ray movie files. For what it's designed to do, I think this is a very good Blu-ray player for the money. ... show more

  • Survived a drop while playing! Tough unit!
This thing is tough. I was amazed that even after dropping it while it was working, it played just fine. I never would have expected it to survive that. I like the size of the screen and the drive isn't very noisy, unlike some portable DVD players. I'm using it plugged in to the wall, so can't say how good the battery life is, but so far so good. ... show more

  • Excellent portable blu-ray player
I've been searching for a portable blu-ray player for a while. When the dearth of suitable alternatives made me decide to buy this one, I was a little apprehensive about the eventual quality & usability. But this little gem did surprise me. Build quality may look a little flimsy, but it feels sturdy enough in the hand. And the video quality was also excellent. I was expecting the same quality you'd get from a full fledged HD TV, and to be frank, this one doesn't meet that expectation. But I think that was more the fact that the screen was LCD & not LED - which means lesser viewing angles & more diffuse color saturation & brightness. But that does not take away from the clear sharpness of the picture - which is indeed very good. The audio is pretty loud too - loud enough to drown out a TV in the next room. It does get a little tinny when the background music swells, but not enough to detract from the viewing experience. The controls could have been a little more intuitive - it took some fumbling from me to figure out how to get the menu back while a movie was playing by using the controls that are embedded on the player itself. The fact that ALL the detailed controls for the player are located on the remote means that you may have to walk around with both this player & the remote at the same time. Could be better, but considering its good battery life, excellent picture & sound - overall, good bang for the buck, does not disappoint. ... show more

  • Excellent product, even better service.
I am very satisfied with this player, and more than satisfied with the customer service I have received. The picture quality is excellent, and the adjustment controls are comprehensive and useful. I've run this both with regular DVDs and Blurays and I have to say it's a great viewing experience. Sound quality is great, especially through headphones. Battery life is as advertised. The remote control has a bunch features, and I may have a chance to play with it some more, but for what I have used, I am very pleased. My only caveat is the plastic case. It does seem to be sturdy (I don't plan on dropping it anytime soon to check that out), but it does pick up fingerprints easily. However, that's got nothing to do with the operation and usefulness of this player. Now for the rest of the story. This review is based on a replacement unit. The first one I received had a weak battery and--now that I've got the replacement--a less than excellent picture. Having seen what can be with this unit, I can only assume that the first one I got was just a bad apple in the bunch. Which happens. Where the company really stands out, and where at least one star is deserved, is in its customer service. Once they found out the problems I was having, they moved quickly and easily to replace the faulty unit--even though I was out of the 30-return window. They responded quickly to any questions I had and were more than willing to take any steps to make a satisfied customer. I am, needless to say, very very pleased. I'd recommend this unit to anyone, and I'd definitely recommend purchasing from this vendor at any time. ... show more
