  • It's great
Really great for the price. Puts out plenty of power to the speakers. Sounds great. Downsides are that it's loud, and I don't mean the volume I mean the fans inside... As loud as my air cooled gaming tower maybe even a bit louder. There is also no dedicated buttons for input select on either the unit or the remote, you have to cycle through them. Probably "better" receivers out there, but for the price I paid ($180ish with tax on a sale) it can't be beat. Definitely recommend. ... show more

  • Poor quality
Do not waste your money on this receiver. Brand new out-of-the-box and nothing works right. Should’ve returned it right away to Amazon but I thought it might be my older TV or HDMI cables with issues. Let’s start with the remote control. You have to be within 2 to 3 feet for it to work at all. When adjusting the volume on the remote control it automatically changes the input selection on the receiver. Volume control works sometimes with the remote but most of the time it changes a different operational function of the receiver. When watching movies and surroundsound through my Roku the audio very seldom works. Sometimes you get surround sound most of the time no audio is transferred through your HDMI connections. Even replaced my cables with high quality HDMI cables and still have the same problems. ARC function does not work at all so I tried to use the optical connection to get audio for just watching TV and all it does is buzz. FM receiver is absolutely useless, it doesn’t even lock into stations with an outdoor FM antenna. The only thing that is working well is the Bluetooth connection, it does sync up with my iPhone with ease. Also you can control the sound level independently to all of your speakers which kind of customizes the sound. The sound quality is decent, but I do not believe the power output ratings as my older receiver put out less power and sounded better. I purchased this receiver because it had Bluetooth and my older Samsung receiver did not. To make sure all these issues were with the Pyle receiver itself ,I hooked up my older samsung receiver to my TV and all HDMI ,optical and ARC functions worked perfectally. The build quality of Pyle receivers is just junk. It’s not worth sending back for warranty repair because I do not believe I just happen to get a dud out of the box. I believe I’ll just be out more shipping and handling to send it back and forth and still have the same associated problems with the build quality of Pyle receivers. In my opinion Amazon should not allow Pyle products to be sold through their website. Do you yourself a favor and spend more money on a quality brand name receiver and save your self a lot of time and hassle. ... show more

  • Great Receiver at Great Price
I bought a different Pyle 5.1 receiver, and had to return it, because it lacked a phono input. This receiver has that input so I can listen to my large collection of records. The blue flashing light is less obnoxious than the red one on prior purchase. Sound is great, BT is awesome. Nice looking next to my Technics turntable and JBL towers. ... show more

  • No operating instructions
The manual provided with the unit is all but useless. No hook-up advice and no operating instructions. I spent half a day wiring and rewiring the speakers and still couldn't get them all to work with my iPod. Called the service number and got a never ending merry-go-round of messages, it did quickly state a web address. I went to the site I thought I heard and got an independent stereo store 2500 miles away. They were very helpful. I tried one of my retired CDs and it powered the surround mode just fine. Half a day wasted. I'm still stumbling into how to work it. (The Surround Sound folks say I should use the 2.1 Channel for iPod.) Took days to figure out how to activate Blue Tooth - that works fine once you know where it is and how to use it. I really didn't need the Microphone functions, don't plan on becoming a Karaoke star any time soon. But the Unit was fairly priced for one without this functionality. I would buy this unit again, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who is inexperienced setting up electronics. Finally, and this is particularly important to classical music listeners, the unit has a very loud cooling fan that will overwhelm the more quiet notes. ... show more

  • Does the job
Does the job most of the time. After a month of use I am noticing it frequently will change sound volume, usually down from the level set and at times will get a screech or static sound. If I change channels it will correct. I have already changed hdmi cable just in case it was an error with the cable. Overall a good device with those two exceptions. It will for sure push the sound and perform at higher sound levels. I use this daily for surround sound in a smaller room so don’t really push high volume. Will for sure support a large area surround sound system. ... show more

  • Not actually surround sound…
The receiver does not have an actual surround sound decoding module of any kind. Using the term 7.1 is diabolically misleading; as this unit is not an actual surround sound-enabled system, all channels will literally just play the same thing through all the speakers, just 7 times. Front left, front right, center, and surround speakers, all just playing the same thing. I’m not even sure if it’s playing in stereo, it sounds like it might be mono. NOT how any home theater speaker systems are intended to function, in case you weren’t aware. Without the actual module for the surround sound programming in the receiver itself there is no way to get actual surround sound unless you replace the receiver entirely. I mean aside from that I guess the thing works ok. I guess if you just use it solely for music, playing the same thing through 7 speakers definitely fills a room really nicely. Still won’t be surround sound though. The fan is also astonishingly loud and never shuts off while the unit is on. So there’s that. Remote sucks. But all things considered I guess if you literally just want something to hook 7 speakers and a sub up to this will serve that purpose, but not much else ... show more
