I have used many kinds of mousetraps, from the old school wire ones to fancy no-kill ones to little tunnels that kill the mouse inside so you don't have to see it. I have sometimes had 2-3 different kinds at a time, and this is the one that consistently gets mice. It's simple (use peanut butter!) and works. These traps work best if the mouse enters from the front in order to kill quickly and humanely. I built this little motel to put the traps in, baited them with peanut butter and quite a few are not going home tonight . They do have a hair trigger so be careful when setting.

    • More often than not it catches a leg and you have to kill your own mouse. Weak. Some just squeal
Weak traps But they do go off easy. They are easy to bait and easy to set. But the poor mice suffer. Most are caught by a leg and I have to dispatch them myself. One didnt die and only squealed till I applied some pressure to the trap. These dont kill well.

I bought the VEFEFI Mouse Traps 12-Pack for an ongoing rodent problem while I am "snow-birding it" away from my northern home during winter. They were purchased Nov. 2023. 4 out of 12 failed by late spring 2024 upon my return (see CAVEAT below). POSITIVES I really liked the removable bait cup design (I prefer using peanut butter) ... just don't fill it to the top i.e. make the rodents reach way in so they have to lick the bait from the bottom of the bait cup. This helps ensure the rodents are well within the jaws of the trap when it snaps shut. By the way, the jagged "teeth" on the jaws is also a great design and is very effective. Contrary to other reviewers, I only had one "leg catch" out of the dozens of rodents successfully caught. CAVEAT - FAILURE RATE The traps definitely work well ... when they are able to be set. There is a potential design flaw in the mechanism that "latches" when you open/set the trap. 4 out of 12 will no longer remain open/set and there is no visible damage to the plastic bar or the receiver. This is the reason for the 2-star rating. I considered giving these a 3-star rating but a 33% failure rate ultimately compelled me towards the 2-star rating. Maybe 2.5-stars? NOTE: I had an old set of Victor plastic traps (see image) with a small metal bait area (i.e. no large pedal surrounding the bait area like the VEFEFI traps being reviewed) and a metal latching mechanism which lasted for decades and would never fail to remain open/set. However, I will admit that the pedal on the VEFEFI traps were far more effective. The old Victor traps would often be licked clean without trapping the mice as the trap mechanisms were not sensitive enough. Perhaps the VEFEFI traps fail to set after a while because they are so sensitive? Maybe I should have given these a 3-star rating? The package boasts a lifetime warranty. When I have time, I will consider pursuing this. However, I am not going to go to a great deal of trouble (nor bear any postage cost if that is required during the warranty redemption effort) as the 12 units were only $20 (i.e. $1.67 each). That's very inexpensive from my perspective ... I spend way more than that on a single adult beverage for crying out loud, or for you coffee drinkers, can you say $5+ per serving of coffee shop java? Feel me? :) So, if I pursue the warranty, I'll update this review accordingly. ENHANCEMENTS The VEFEFI manufacturer suggests placing the trap between two objects to force the rodents to approach the trap from the front. This is not always possible or convenient. So, I added side flaps made out of plastic (see image) that I cut out from an old (retired) plastic mailbox and duct taped them to the sides of the trap to force the rodents to approach the trap from the front even when the trap was out in the open. This actually worked well. Future modifications will be done with epoxy to ensure a more effective adhesion to the base of the VEFEFI trap. As for the traps moving around, I added a healthy amount of rolled up duct tape to the bottom (away from the removable bait cup) to deter small critters from moving the trap ... before or after being trapped. This sticks rather well to carpet and dry, clean floors (i.e. dirty, dusty garage floors need to be spot-cleaned and dried first else the duct tape is ineffective). Don't forget ... there is a loop on the back of the trap so you can tether the trap to something, if desired. ... show more
