  • Great range even in neighborhoods
I got these for my family to keep in touch when we go camping. The kids like to take some adventures away from camp while the adults are adulting (food prep and such) and I wanted to be able to call them back to camp without having to go on a hunt to find them. They work well in that application, but just for fun I decided to test some ranges in my neighborhood and to my surprise, they work all over the neighborhood. That’s about 1/2 mile with the usual obstructions one would expect in a suburb. For such a low price product, that’s really good. I’ve had some other radios that cannot do that and they cost way more. ... show more

  • Works to radio another car while driving
These are of course not 20 miles of communication. However, they do work great for communicating to another car if they are no more that 1-2 cars away while driving. Best and clearest is following directly at a normal distance. Yes, cell phones are wonderful. IF... there is service. We drive through the mountains and desert and for much of the time there is no cell service. These are great for commenting on the traffic or road conditions and most importantly they work consistently. Charging is easy and can be done with (your own) usb cord. ... show more

  • Perfect for our needs
I bought these for myself and two elderly individuals I am a caregiver for. We're separated by 1 floor. BATTERY: This was my largest concern. Seeing that this appeared to be an issue with virtually all Walkies in this price-range, I chose the Motorola option because of its dual power capabilities (ie: NiMh or store-bought AA). For my purpose the NiMh batteries last long enough; with minimal usage. We're getting about 1.5 to 2 days before we hear the low-battery "chirp" on any of the three. However we only communicate with each other about 4-8 times a day. FYI: -I set them on a .5w channel, which may place less demand on the battery (as opposed to 1w and 2w channels). -I gave the batteries a good 8-10hr charge before first use (they were already charged about 2/3rds of the way out of the box). VOICE QUALITY: -I find the voice quality on par with that of a standard landline telephone's speakerphone, however, we're only separated by a single floor. I imagine voice quality will suffer over longer distances; as is expected. -No stutters, break-ups or voice distortion at all. LOOK & FEEL: -They feel solid, with grippy rubber coating where needed to maintain a relatively non-slip grip. Rubber coating on the edges and antenna for minor protection when dropped. Water resistant -Light, with the NIMh battery. I didn't test with 3x AA batteries. -Looks professional, and not like a toy or baby monitor like some do. -No fingerprints. EASE OF USE: -Couldn't have been easier to setup. Power on, select channel, select privacy channel. Hit lock. Done. Some of the other Walkies I perused looked a little intimidating and more complicated than they need to be. They would have been very off-putting for those in my care. -Very simple interface. The buttons are intuitive. CON: -The Y-charging cable (a dual port charging cable to charge two walkies simultaneously) seems to stop short of fully charging the two walkies connected to it. The battery meter on both only display 2 of 3 bars charged after nearly a day on charger. Charging one at a time solves this. (I have many micro-USB chargers so this wasn't a deal-breaker for me) WISH-LIST: -Vibrate when receiving a transmission. I often wear headphones, and may not hear the walkie. -A better belt clip#!%$!#!!! Maybe a swivel holster, so that you don't spend more time trying to wrap the difficult belt clip around your belt than actually using the Walkie. At least give us a lanyard. -An option in the menu to see the timestamp of the last received transmission (in case you missed it because you were wearing headphones :) -I wish you could buy a smaller antenna for it. ... show more

  • Used on the slopes, perfect
I did lots of research into a good set of inexpensive walkie talkies for skiing. Three of us had these in Colorado at multiple different ski areas and resorts for a week. They worked flawlessly in all cases even when we were in completely different areas of the mountain. I was honestly shocked. So hopefully they do the same for you. ... show more

  • Good
These walkie talkies work fine. Not great for much more than a mile(we live in the country) in our experience anyway. One complaint is that when you plug them in to charge, the chargers push into the ports very hard. Yes I am using the correct port and the charge cables that came with them. It is a HARD pull to remove them off the charger cables, too. I am concerned that after much use, the cables are going to be damaged as a result and I will have no choice but to use disposable batteries in them, which it’s great that that is an option with these walkie talkies, But I was really excited about their ability to be recharged to save in battery expense. I am satisfied with my purchase but wish the recharge cables were easier to plug in and take out. ... show more

  • Great product
Before I start, just remember, these will never make the mileage that the manufacturers say. That being said, they are extremely well made, excellent audio reach out about 1 mile within the confines of a business plaza. For this price I’ve been back and bought them 2 more times. Just know going in, it won’t reach 20 miles ... show more
