  • Fantastic transceiver.
I could have gotten the functionality I needed from a cheaper radio and you can too. I paid for features and build quality and that's what I got. It has further functionality, bells and whistles I might never use too but even without those I'm satisfied with my choice. It's small and light enough for portable use. I have made dx contacts while portable and operating moibile I've hit repeaters on 2m from impressive distances. Being an sdr with a good screen it is incredibly easy to find and tune other stations. I'm in love. ... show more

  • Perfect QRP radio. Shack in a box! Remote control via internet and app.
App for the iPhone not by manufacturer. Very good app overall. The rigs remote capabilities are endless! Wifi and Bluetooth connectivity. Eq for transmission and reception on every mode! I.F. Bandwidth is adjustable… max is 3khz… I know dang icom bottleneck! Needs firmware update and or filter mod too?! Though D-star I’ve yet to get quite figured out. The multi modes and the sdr with touchscreen is pretty cool and not difficult as a menu option radio. Allot of radio in a little footprint. With 10w on 12v and 5w on less than 8v. All modes and digital capability, Its allot of value for the money! ... show more

  • Excellent multiband transceiver
I think Icom did a very good job designing this transceiver. Ergonomics are similar as in the 7300 & 9700 models. This is an excellent SW Amateur QRP or MW receiver. Battery life is good and is easy to operate. Recommended.

  • ICOM 705
The ICOM 705 is $50 more expensive on amazon than other compradors. This is a very pricy radio, every dollar you can save is a must.

  • Excellent and Expensive
Given the huge list of features and non-insignificant cost, I am sure that you have _already_ studied the specifications, read the reviews, and watched a pile of YouTube videos which feature this gem of a radio; so, in this little review, I will share with you my personal experiences. This radio is intuitive, easy and fun to operate. At first one might be intimidated by the HUGE collection of features, but, after a while, you just use whatever features that you _need_ and learn others as you need them. In my case, all features that I needed were right there. As an example, last weekend a friend and I wanted to make our first POTA contact using a new loop antenna which was in front of the couch in my living room - it was raining outside. Easy... We managed to quickly make two "Hunter" contacts to two different parks that were about 350 miles away from us. We did this on just _FIVE_ watts, and we had a great time. Please note that the maximum output of this radio is just 10 watts; so, if you are used to a 100 watt radio in your shack, this may not be for you. After the POTA contact, we had more fun with D-STAR, listening to aeroplanes on the air band, checking out the very sophisticated waterfall and more features. This is not my most powerful radio, or the least expensive or the smallest, BUT it is - by far - the most _fun_. And, because of Icom quality, it is trust-worthy, reliable and largely problem free. Some cheap radios that I own have significant problems, requiring work-arounds, but not this lovely radio. Because I like the radio so much, I bought the way expensive backpack. Convenient, but over the top in cost! I also got a little steel cage that goes around the radio to protect it from dents and scratches which is nice, but I really like the little handle at the top of the cage. I also splurged on a few QRP antennas. When getting your antenna, remember that there is NO antenna tuner inside this radio. Not a big problem, but I eventually treated myself to a nice tuner that worked perfectly. Bottom Line: This radio is excellent and you will pay for this excellence. Not for everyone. You can compare specifications, watch YouTube reviews and talk to owners, but at the end of the day I believe you will find that the vast majority of owners, like me, find this radio delightful.i ... show more
