I tried a bunch of different (cheaper) radios, but I always come back to Motorola. These are great for hunting trips, communicating on vacation, hiking, whatever. The rechargeable batteries lasted like advertised. I have several sets of Motorola radios and they haven't failed, even the 20-year-old T250 talkabouts I have in the camper. We bought these for an upcoming multi-vehicle trip. The description says they work up to 25 miles apart. We tried and reception failed at 1/2 a mile. By one mile, there was no reception at all. I trusted the Motorola name. These radios are a big fail. Returning them.

Radio is clear enough and is built well. But the battery life is absolute garbage. If you let the radio sit for over 24-48 hours after taking it off the charger with a full charge, it will only have two bars left. I'll get maybe a days worth of use at that point, using it occasionally to communicate on our 47 acre property doing farm stuff. Then you get the BEEP BEEP, BEEP BEEP, that lets you know the battery is dying. Note that I WAS using the T200 (bought the 3 pack) amd the battery life was great for me even with the rechargeable pack. But this T265, or whatever it is, the orange one. Garbage. I think its because it has more features. Such as weather radio and whatnot. Transmission distance isnt any better as both the T200 and T265 transmit at 2 watts on some channels (GMRS) and 1/2 watt on the others (FRS). Though I dont understand because if the feature isnt being used why would it drain the battery? Maybe the more complex circuitry and amount of resistors and control boards the battery has to power has something to do with it.... Bottom line, bigger isnt always better. Sometimes simpler is better especially if you'll never use the features. ... show more
