This is an awesome product. It worked great. My only comment is if you’re working with a 44 ton diesel locomotive I’d recommend a headset or loudspeaker to connect with it.

Just finished a weekend using these radios for race communications. Loud and clear most time, even with terrain between the pits and the course. So easy to use, batteries lasted all day long with regular calls back and forth. Radio is mounted on center of dash within full cage and transmits/receives just fine. We are using a harness from Samson Racing Communications and it all worked just as advertised. These are MURS radios, no license required, 2 Watt. We bought a few of these to handle field operations in a Farm. The farm is for crops and pretty open with a few tree wind barriers and a couple of 100 ft tall hills. The radios work nicely!! the farthest point we have communicated are about 2.5 miles and no problems as long as you are outdoors. If you get in the truck or inside an office they will not work. I bought these for use in a school. We opening it immediately and everything looked fine. We started using when school started. The walkie talkie could transmit other's speaking but the holder of the walkie talkie could not be hear when speaking to others. Since I was outside of the 30 day return window I contacted Motorola. They gave me some product support and had me reset to factory settings. We thought they might be working, but then they did not. Motorola gave me a distributor's name to contact but they do not respond either to email or phone calls. So now I feel like I wasted $500 of state funded school money on defective products! ... show more

I purchased this so I could have my employees radios, maintenance frequencies and other channels that my employees dont need but I do. I purchased the RU 2040's for my other employees as they dont need all the channels that the RMU2080D has. I like the digital display which makes it easy to read as the chemical plant I work in always has a lot of powders in the air which always seem to cover the knob channel selector making it difficult to see what channel your on without wiping the whole radio down. Bought the RMM2050 for use at work (Walmart) and use it every day. Works fine with the other radios once programmed - programming can be a little tricky. Motorola radios are expensive but better than the $40-$60 radios (longer range, more durable).
