  • Nice grill
Style: Silver
After searching for some time I decided on this Monument grill. Warranty is good and had good reviews. First off the packaging was excellent, no damage what so ever. Putting the grill together took me (by myself) about an hour and a half. Directions were clear and parts organized logically, also came with a bag of spare parts, screws and what not. Once together grill is sturdy and solid. We first cooked a couple of hamburgers, it did well. Any grill can do that. Next we cooked chicken thighs. Without good heat control it's difficult to get golden brown skin and not burn. This grill delivered, great heat control and even heating across the grates. Very happy. I was looking at Weber grills but for comparable size they are almost 3 times the cost of Monument. So, time will tell on durability but the metal seems quite good and the drip tray (bottom of cooking area) easily removes for cleaning which is what killed our last grill. If you're looking for a reasonably priced quality grill, you won't be disappointed. ... show more

  • Terrific grill!
Style: Mesa 400M with Smoker Box
Received the grill 4 days early. Assembled it in 1.3 hours (don’t let the complainers sway you - it’s a cinch!). Everything went together flawlessly. Top quality and finish in every part. My first meal was 2 racks of ribs and homemade beans on the side burner. The temperature control and ease of use are such an upgrade from the grill I just retired! Super happy with this purchase! Oh yeah - I had question for the manufacturer before the grill was delivered. Sent the message via Amazon at 9:30pm and they responded before 10:30pm. This company makes a top quality product and they care about their customers. When this unit wears out (as they alway do, eventually), I will purchase another one. Can’t recommend highly enough! ... show more

  • Good overall
Style: Mesa 400M Grill
Good overall. As follows: — PROS: • Cannot beat it for the price. • Cooks excellently. • Plenty of power. This thing can get up to 700+ °F in a jiffy, no problem. Good for cooking and also for cleaning by burning off. • Burners and innards seem safe, well-designed, and well-QCd, which is a sine qua non. • Design is mostly very good. — CONS: • Assembly is straightforward ENOUGH, but lower your expectations going in — if you are a typical end-user in a residential environment, plan on taking 2 hours or more to assemble it. If you don't expect quicker, then you won't be disappointed. The instruction booklet is a 75-page novel, but at least only the first 25 pages are for English-language users. • The amount of cardboard in the packaging is epic and reasonable. (After all, they need to protect the thing adequately in transit, so you don't return it for damage.) On the other hand, the amount of STYROFOAM in the packaging is gargantuan and probably inexcusable. Plan on filling your ENTIRE recycling bin with cardboard, and plan on filling a GIANT contractor-grade heavy-duty trash bag with broken-up STYROFOAM to send to the landfill, and vacuuming up scores of little staticky styrofoam nuggets. Hopefully the manufacturer will switch to molded paper/cardboard instead, in future. Personally I would pay another 10 or 20 bucks on the product if it could mean eliminating the MOUNTAIN of styrofoam from the packaging. But I guess a lot of other customers are more psychopathic than that, so who knows whether it will change. • The top half (the grill proper) is well designed and feels premium. The bottom half (cabinet/stand) is *adequately* designed and feels chintzy — viable, but minimum-viable. • The caster wheels are tiny silly indoor-grade units misplaced on an outdoor product. Maybe I will swap them out so I can actually put my grill (an outdoor object) on the grass without them sinking into the ground. • The cabinet is backless, which is the stupidest design flaw that I have detected so far; but it might be true that many of the competing products are also backless, I don't know. A backless cabinet is moronic because a grill is an outdoor object that is going to sit in your backyard at night, and the drippings pan is just sitting there in the wide open for any possums, racoons, skunks, or black bears that might happen to smell it and decide to mess with it. And maybe chew on the rubber propane hose too, while they're in there anyway. Having little doors on the front of the cabinet is laughably pointless and irrational when the back is wide open. I have some old sheet metal shelving that I'll be propping against the back with a sandbag, so at least I can TRY to keep the night critters out of the meat-juice-scented cabinet. The cabinet was clearly designed for cheapness and for false-front appearances as judged by indoorsy-only, not-very-bright customers. Oh well. Must keep in mind that if the cabinet was premium then the upfront price of the overall product would easily be 30% higher or more. — Overall I cannot complain, because (1) you get what you pay for in life, (2) the grill seems safe and effective, and (3) the competing products in the same price bracket are probably not better. Go for it. ... show more

  • A great grill at a good price
Style: Silver
i ordered this grill after my 20 year-old Weber Genesis finally gave up the ghost. I live in New England and I do not grill year-round, so I did not want to drop $1700 on a new Weber. I looked at several of the grills on Amazon and all of the Monument grills had good reviews, so I gave it a shot. I ordered it on Thursday and it showed up on Saturday (two days ahead of when Amazon said it would arrive), so that was good. It comes in a very large box (about 4' x 3' x 2') and all of the parts and pieces were well-packed. In fact, it took about 20 minutes to unpack everything, lol. After unpacking everything, I looked through the manual and got an idea about how to put it together. The manual is okay and it took me about 5 hours to put the grill together from start to finish. Others have said that it took them about an hour to put it together- they must have had a NASCAR pit crew working for them. lol A couple of tips I would recommend would be to use a power screwdriver; I used the Philips head bit on my Black and Decker cordless drill. This grill requires screwing a lot of large and small screws, so a cordless drill is a must. Also, if you have a headlamp, use that as well, since it illuminates the different parts of the grill that you are trying to assemble. Finally, do not discard the box after opening. If you do not have a designated workbench or table, the box serves as a great substitute. I did not want to be bending over all the time trying to screw in all the screws they give you. Once I was halfway done, I put the grill on the floor and then flipped the box on its side and used it as a place to keep the clear plastic container that held all the screws, etc. When it was finished, I rolled it outside on my deck, connected the propane tank, and gave it a test run. I made some burgers for my son and I. They turned out well. There is a thermometer in the front of the grill that tells the temperature inside the grill for that just-right cooking level. Admittedly, this grill is not as solid as my old Weber (it's made of very thin stainless steel, so be careful when you are driving those screws in), but it is is about 1/5th the price, so you get what you pay for. It worked for what I needed it to do, so I am a happy customer. I am looking forward to more delicious meals on my new Monument gas grill. ... show more
