We got this sewing machine for our granddaughter, a beginner. Truly, an ambitious and artistic girl who never touched one before but who wanted to learn how. She was extremely excited to receive it. It's a good looking machine. Set up is a total breeze. Even the needle comes already threaded. Great, that makes things easier. The problem we encountered is, in many ways, not related to the machine. No one around her knows anything about sewing machines. Her parents especially. So we turned to the instructions. But the ones included are bad, not detailed and hard to understand. The most helpful thing so far has been YouTube videos. It'd be even more helpful to have someone around who knows how to use a sewing machine. Surely a lost art -- but one that'll definitely be appreciated by the right person. In addition to having bad instructions, you'll notice additional oddities with this machine. The cord is extremely short. Like, make sure you have an extension cord on hand if the outlet isn't immediately next to your sewing desk. Also, the cord for the pedal is extremely short and that makes using it kind of tricky. Those are just easily solvable design flaws that should've been caught in the design phase. This does come with a variety of threads, a small pair of scissors, and a few other tools. It is made for beginners who want to learn how to sew. Just make sure you have someone or some resource to teach you how to use it, since you won't find enough instructions included. Could also be used by people who only sew very occasionally. I'd look for something else if I were an expert who planned to use this all the time. ... show more

I could not wait to get this and try it. I've been wanting to learn to sew and I do not really have the space for a full-size machine. This is the perfect size for my desk and the quality is great as well!

My daughter got it out of the box like this so I plugged it in to try and see if I could get the fabric out and the machine just goes and goes without pushing the foot peddle. Sending back to try again and hopefully get an actual new one

Very easy to use, great for beginners and small projects. I used it to hem my sons pants recently. I've never used a sewing machine but was able to use this very easily.

I am an absolute beginner with sewing machines. TL; DR, I did get this machine to work! It did take a bit of research and trial and error, though. The directions for use are terrible. There are images in the directions, but they are faded and blurry; very difficult to see. I ended up finding some youtube videos, and in combination with the written directions, did succeed in threading the machine and getting some stitches! My stitches are straight and overall, I’m excited to use this machine more. It is small and easy to store. Some kind of case would have been a plus, but it was not expected. This machine does come with some nice accessories, basically filling out your home sewing kit. It comes with a good variety of thread colors, including pre-wound bobbins going with each! The machine does allow use with either battery or AC power. I tested it both ways, and while the battery power does work (4 AA’s), the machine does function more slowly and laboriously on battery. AC works more smoothly. My one big gripe with this machine is that the cords for the foot pedal and AC adapter are incredibly short. If you’re using the sewing machine at a higher table or craft counter, the cable for the foot pedal will not reach the floor. It barely made it from my standard-height table, and I had to angle the machine to give the cable as much give as possible. I needed an extension cord to plug this in. ... show more
