This is my first ever sewing machine, for a new hobby I have never picked up before. So when I say this machine is incredibly user-friendly that means something 😅. Googling the “UFR-505 Tutorial” pulls up hundreds of very concise tutorials showing the many functionalities of this machine, and the instruction manual is very clear about the machine as well. As far as performance, in my opinion, this is an awesome machine! The stitches come out straight, consistent in lengths, the machine hardly jams, and when it does it’s easy to fix. Most times if it isn’t threaded properly, it will stop running to prevent more serious tangles (which complicated things when I first took it out of the box 😅 but was easily fixed). The tutorials I saw before/after I purchased this sewing machine said it was more of a light duty machine, due to its size. It’s fairly small so I’m inclined to agree, though I have seen it sew through ~4-8 layers of denim, so it could if the need arose. I’m a huge fan of the LED lamp that lights up the needle area, there’s a presser foot/guard thing that keeps the needle itself pretty far from your fingers, and the machine itself, though small, does feel pretty stable and safe to operate. The thread cutter isn’t the best for trimming the thread, but it does work well enough, and I like it’s distance from the needle too. I have yet to use the bobbin threader, but it also seems pretty easy to operate given all the video tutorials. I’ve seen other reviews of people having this specific sewing machine for years on end, and seeing it run, I also think mine could last years with proper care. ^_^ this would be a great starter for kids I think, or even young adults like me who have not seen before. 10/10 Happy crafting!! ... show more

I DO NOT know anything about sewing and I'm just intimidated by it. I checked out lots of machines on Amazon and it is an amazing price for all the bells and whistles that come with it. I knew I was missing out on some really cool junk journaling ideas by not using fabrics. I wanted to share that I got the sewing machine today and it is awesome and cheap! So easy to use, it actually comes already threaded with a test patch of fabric. Most importantly I can report that it works GREAT with denim. It actually can handle denim with no issues. I am so excited to find a pattern or cover that I can sew for a journal. Hope this helps any intimidated newbie like me! ... show more

Originally bought this as i don't do that much altering, usually take it out, but figured might try to do some simple hems/pants with this. Does not work well at all, a toy sewing machine would probably do the same job and cost less. Pedal was cheap and needle kept losing the thread and required rethreading. Not to mention, my unit came with hand prints all over it, meaning someone else returned it and it was refurbished or the person at the factory putting this together had some dirty hands! a quick return on this one. ... show more

    • A good starter machine
Color: Purple
While this is a good starter machine to learn on, my beginner-sewer got hung up with it in a sewing class one day and none of the teachers could fix it and the drama of it made her cry. It apparently does not like thick material. It took an Engineer to get the machine working again. Other than a couple broken needles she was able to change out herself, it performed well enough the rest of her class and she completed her sewing projects. By the end of her sewing camp, she was overall pleased with it. It's very cute and very portable which worked well for carrying it to class every day. Don't even attempt to use cheap needles or cheap thread in this machine.... it can be persnickety, but once you learn it's quirks, it performs pretty solidly for basic projects. Bonus, it can operate with batteries or by plugging it in to an outlet and it also has a foot pedal. Two nice features for this price point. ... show more

This little machine works very good for a child. The only thing I was disappointed in was the threading of the bobbin. Sews great and is easy for a child to learn how to thread and to sew.

    • Great travel trailer sewing machine

It sews much like my regular sized sewing machine. The manual says to only feed so I do have to be careful not to pull the material - just keep tension only on it. It's light weight and perfect size for my travel trailer. I haven't tried it on batteries yet - only electrical. I had to take a seam out due to my error and it was so well sewed that it took a little effort plus the thread provided is a really good thread - hard to break. ... show more

this sewing machine is not worth what I spent on it. The thread breaks easily and it is difficult to thread. Stops sewing often.

This product is use for my quilting and sewing class. It's smaller and weighs much less than my regular sewing machine. The performance is great and the value price too. Thinking of getting my sister one.
