  • GMRS: The GMRS channels used by the 15-Watt MicroMobile(R) walkie-talkie are licensed by the FCC for personal and business use. These channels have a range up to several miles, depending on terrain, weather conditions, and obstacles. While a 40-mile range may be possible under ideal conditions, it's important to consider terrain and other factors that can affect the range of the radio in use. For best communication, test the range of your radio where you plan to use it.
  • Privacy Codes: The 142 CTCSS/DCS privacy codes of the MicroMobile walkie talkie allow you to select a specific code to use with a particular channel, which helps to prevent unwanted transmissions from being heard on the same channel. This provides a level of privacy and security for your communications, especially in crowded areas where multiple radios may be in use. Use silent operation to turn off all tone.
  • NOAA Weather Scan + Alert: NOAA Weather Scan will automatically scan through 10 available weather (WX) band channels and locks onto the strongest weather channel to alert you of severe weather updates. NOAA Weather Alert will sound an alarm indicating that there is a risk of severe weather in your area. NOAA Weather Radio will also be used to broadcast AMBER alerts for missing children.

I have these in every Jeep and vehicle at the ranch. I buy the heavy duty magnetic antennas to go with them to gain maximum distance. I even have one in the main house as a home station. Great quality. These work with handheld radios also.

I added this to my Jeep for communication on the trail with my 4wd club. I definitely have far, far better reception and stronger signal than others using handhelds. Definitely several miles of range. Installation was easy, I used on overhead mount on my Jeep JK, and fabricated a small bracket for the antenna at the bottom of the A-pillar that uses the hood as a ground plane but is protected from brush. ... show more

    • Great product, but...
This was a great addition to my jeep, but some things should be considered. It's unclear with the included manual how to access my local repeater network, since you cannot adjust frequency range on this. Also, Midland does not offer some necessary components if you need to trim the length of your coaxial cable. They actually refer them to a competitor to acquire the parts to cut and reattach the antenna. It's a solution that's quick and easy, but without being able to shorten my antenna cable, it's got some terrible interference. ... show more

We had been running a Cobra CB radio paired with a Firestik antenna and always was disappointed with quality consistency with that setup. We did some digging and dedcided to give Midland a go and boy are glad we did! Install was a breeze due to overall size of the unit and mounting hardware. Love the fact that there’s virtually no tuning required and performance is great. Mic volume level is superior and illumination makes seeing display a breeze. I do rallies in my Lotus where a bunch of us in sports cars go carve the back roads. We use radios to communicate things between the cars and while it works, the handhelds leave a little to be desired. I can hear people that are in eyesight but not much further than that really. Someone in the group said they were running one of these and that it works much better. I decided to give it a shot and I am so glad I did. I made some custom brackets to mount the radio and antenna in my car and used it this past weekend on a rally. When some of our group got broken up by traffic lights, I could still hear people a mile away. I am ditching the handhelds and am very happy with my purchase. I believe the upgraded antenna helped as well. I imagine if it were outside of the car, it would do even better. That said I don't see a good way to mount it outside and keep the clean lines I like so it lives above the back seat and still performs very well. I hooked this up at a cabin in the Rockies and my wife and I were able to communicate on channel 15 (one of the "high power" channels) via a handheld Midland radio on my end while I was climbing a mountain some 10 miles away. And that was just using the little stubby antenna that's included; next year I might upgrade that piece. Obviously when I was higher up on the mountain and our connection was more "line of sight", things were clearer. Still, it exceeded my expectations. The menu functions are a little awkward to get through (definitely need to reference the manual), but that's to be expected with something as minimalistic as this thing. Not sure how the radio itself works. I started with the install of the antenna, antenna mount, and the cable. The attachment where the cable connects to the antenna came apart almost immediately. I would definitely stay clear of the combo package as the quality of the accessories are subpar. However, being that everything is made by the same company, I would probably not expect too much out of the radio as well. ... show more
