Metal detector gets me to the spot and after I dig I use the hazlewolke to pinpoint the walls of the hole or the plug. IT works great and it saves me about $80. I have been using this pin pointer for a couple of weeks now and it works great. It detects from far enough away to be useful but not as far as some of the name brand ones. Overall, it is worth the money especially considering the extremely modest price. FYI, I bought two of these and one of them was missing a piece inside the cap that hold tension on the 9v battery. I punched out some felt and placed that into the cap to retain tension which has worked perfectly. I have not used them under water but the battery compartment has a gasket seal that looks like it would keep water out. All three modes (vibrate, beep, and vibrate and beep) work flawlessly. Overall, I would recommend this pin pointer to anyone who is on a budget and needs a pin pointer that works reliably . ... show more

This has to be the worst pinpointer I've ever had. It definitely does not reach 4.5" at all. You lucky to reach 1" from it. If it's not pretty much just laying on the surface, it's not going to detect the object. I've bought pretty much the absolute cheapest detector and it was so much better than this one. I ordered this pinpointer when my GP-Pointer got wet and stopped working. Metal detecting is almost impossible without a decent pinpointer so I was anxious to get this one and start using it. It is about the same quality of most pinpointers, made of hard plastic so it's durable. This one has 3 modes which I liked. It has just a vibration mode, a sound+vibration mode, and just a sound mode. I like the sound+vibration mode the best. I found that the sound is not as loud as I'd like, but when using the sound with vibration, it definitely helps. The specs say it can detect to a maximum of 4.5 inches. In my use it didn't appear to detect anything more than an inch or two in depth when buried in dirt, so the depth performance didn't appear to match the claim in my opinion. It says that it's waterproof, but I haven't had a reason or instance where I could put that to the test. For its price point at $20 approximately, it definitely will help you find things and is definitely better than having nothing, and for the price I know you can't expect the same as a more professional level pointer. I'd have been much more satisfied if the sound was louder and if it was more sensitive to objects more than an inch or two away when buried. But it's still a good pointer for the price. ... show more

I'm using it in tandem with a White's metal detector, hunting mainly for native copper.its sturdy and good at surface stuff. Not sure I can verify its 3"+ depth sensitivity abilities (it seems to have much better location at 2"), but it's lightweight, waterproof and it does what I need.
