  • Impressive
This is an impressive RED dot. When it comes to day time use. It works like any 2 MOA red dot. For me the dot is pretty damn crisp and I have a mild astigmatism. The turrets have an amazing feel and sound. Each click is .50 MOA @100 yards. The sleep mode works within 25 to 30 mins like the instructions state. As for the auto illumination, it definitely works way better then any Holosun I've owned and used. The sensor is located on the picatinny mount and is facing foward. When aiming from in doors to a sunny and bright out door, the sensor does its job and adjust to the proper setting to give you a nice and bright red dot. The beautiful thing is that it's not overly bright when you start to see a redish halo. Also you can set an auto shut down for 4 or 8 hrs. When the system is manually shut down. Or goes into auto shut down you just tap the up keypad and it turns back on. The only thing I don't like, is that the red dot will turn back on its default level 8. Personally if When turning on the optic after its auto off, and it can resume to where you had previously set it, me personally I like to keep it in its auto brightens setting. When it comes to the build of this optic, this is where I'm impressed. The front and rear lense are transparent with no tint when looking down threw it. It has the characteristics of a holographic sight, the LED emmiter is nicely tucked away and you can't see it or the light bleed like every other red dot. Now this optic does have some weakness that meprolight might want to adress. First off, the NV setting. Guys... this was a major thing for me. When you press and hold for a few seconds to set it in NV mode. The reticle "red dot" is supposed to dim down to not visible to the naked eye. Unfortunately that's not the case with this Tru vision. With out a NOD you can definitely see a faint red dot, so... when you use an NOD .. yup you guessed it.. that dot is pretty damn bright. I get that photonic barriers exist but damn they could of easily had the lowest setting a lot dimmer then what it is now. As an example.. my Romeo7 had two NV modes. The first being the lowest blows this Tru vision out of the water. The only bad this is that the Romeo 7 has a front tinted glass so light transmission is slightly impeded. The Tru vision has practically eotech light transmission under the use of a NOD but the lowest NV setting is just way to bright.. The last this of weekends is the run out of the red dot. This having a whole windshield as an objective lense and it being an LED emitting red dot vs a laser dioed holographic. If you are bringing you optic up and moving fast with you cheek or chin not 100% on your stock, you will loose the dot. I'm my opinion that's a big weakness. There is so much surface area where that emmiter is hiding that I'm sure they can make it work so the red dot will have more space to travel on that glass. All in all for the price of what I paid, I'm actually happy with it in day time use. I have it mounted on my APC9 SBR and it's super fun to use. I really love the auto brightens feature because it actually works right, last range visit I was shooting outdoors under shade and that day was super bright and the sensor was doing its job perfect. In my opinion, if they fix the return to last know setting when auto off of 4 or 8 hrs, get a much lower setting for the NV mode and just give more real-estate to the red dots projection with that massive windshield. Meprolight can have they best LED emitting red dot in the market. ... show more

  • Practical, Rugged, Innovative!
I've owned numerous Eotechs, Aimpoints, Leupolds and Meprolights over the years, was currently using the Meprolight RDS Pro v2. I had some initial misgivings going from the Meprolight RDS Pro v2's green circle/dot reticle back to a plain red dot, but the more I use it, the more I'm adjusting to and liking it. The Tru-Vision's use of a CR123 battery simplifies my logistics (my WML uses CR123's) and provides at least 10x the battery life of the Pro v2. While I prefer the Tru-Vision's auto-brightness setting (wish it was the default setting when the optic is turned on), the initial '8 of 12' manual setting is more than sufficient for lowlight/midlight use, even w/an 800 lumen WML at close range. The auto-brightness setting works surprisingly well, the only time I could force a washout was aiming from my dim front room at the frosted sunset window atop the front door in broad daylight. At all other times the dot was clearly visible, especially if aiming at anything that wasn't very light-colored. At very close range the dot is dim (but clearly visible) when inside the hotspot of my 66k Candela WML against a white surface. I checked for the reported reticle blind spots and there is a slight amount of reticle loss to the sides and no loss at top or bottom, no biggy for me (ymmv). So far so good, 5 stars! ... show more
