  • Not suitable for 1 man kitchen
BUT I kept for my go bag if Putin makes nuclear armageddon. Joking, hopefully, but Membrane Solutions is great? I bought several of their products to replace countertop carbon filter pitchers. Best tasting water since I drank sheep dip in Northern Norway.

  • Good economy gravity filter
The Good: filters water as intended, and holds 2 gallons-worth of water at a shot The Bad: uses an i.v. nylon clamp, which little kids won't be able to use properly Verdict: for those not prepared to shell out the big bucks for a premier gravity filter, this product reliably works for those who can operate an i.v. nylon clamp (you've got to click it all the way closed or it will still drip). A must-have for off-the-grid backpacking trips if you don't want to spend your time pumping or boiling water. ... show more

  • Exactly what I was looking for.
It’s lightweight, packs small an works. Be sure to follow strict safety procedures like with all water purifiers, you can cross contaminate. I really like that it’s a passive system, squatting in a stream cranking away on a pump, slapping mosquitos while sweating just for a liter of water in ten minutes is not my idea of a good time. This system negates all that; just set it and forget it. I still add 2 drops of pure chlorox per liter once filtered but that just a precaution. ... show more

  • Blue Bag
I bought this item in preparation to take it with me to my next Safari trip in mid-May. Safe drinking water is my priority, especially when I travel abroad. I read some reviews before, and I get inspiration to buy one for me. I unpacked it and the bag seems well made of and strong for the usage but have not used it. I gave 5 stars now and after I experience with it, I will return to provide an accurate review based on my own experience. ... show more

  • This is the one to get
I researched these life saving water filter straws for awhile before I decided to get this one. The reason I chose this one over the others was because there is known flaw in the filter straws. They work great the first few times and the the water flows through really good and then it goes down to a trickle drip to not working at all. This one particular one, has where you can suck through the straw and fix it, it gets rid of the air bubble trapped inside. The other ones don't have this feature. Also I watched some videos users uploaded when they used the blue bag and got the most swampy water you could get and they filtered it and the water come out clean. It really looks to be the best unit to purchase to have on hand incase tshtf. I have not used my unit, but it arrived clean and looks new and I feel better that I have at least something to get water if the power grid goes down. ... show more

  • Air bubbles stop/slow the flow...
So I've owned a few of these bag style water filters. All of them have ended up slowing to such a slow trickle it was unusable. I used this one on a trip to Dardenelles Lake in the Tahoe Basin (California Sierra Mtns) where the water is clear, cold and tasty. The first 4 liters flowed nicely. The first liter poured out like a tap. Then it slowed but still was decent. Then by the second bag (hard to fill to 6L, 4L is easy to fill and carry) the flow slowed to a trickle. By the third bag, it was fast drops. By the fourth bag, unusable. So I took it apart and used some of my precious clean water to try to clean/backflow it. The charcoal filter was covered in sediment/algae and the other end was also. So I cleaned it off, put it back together and it was a bit better but slowed to a trickle again by the end of 4L. I never did get it going fast again. Once again, like all other bag filters, dropped to a fast drop. About 20 min to fill a 1L bottle. Pretty pathetic. Returned home, backflowed it with tap water and let it dry. TRied it again with tap water and it was not working at all. A few drops per minute!!! I packed it up to return but I hesitated. Why would it slow like that when it's not even visibly clogged?!? I started to do some google research and started reading about air bubbles in filters slowing the flow. The nice thing about the Membrane Solutions filter is that the filter itself is a "straw" style filter that you can use directly to your mouth. So I used it like a straw and man, it was super hard to suck any water out of a cup. But I persisted and soon, I was able to get flow which got easier to suck out. I then put the bag back on and voila! flow was decent. So that's the solution folks, if this filter is relatively clean but slow, put it in "straw" mode, suck like crazy, get the air bubbles out, and your flow will return. Other bag styles don't have a straw mode so it would be harder to get air bubbles out. Now that I know what causes slow flow, I think I'm keeping this. Great bag filter in general. Good design. Easy to take apart and clean. Easy to put together. Easy to hang. They even sell filters separately (4 for $45) so i think I'll get extra to make sure I can keep one air bubble free and swap out as they all inevitably get air in the filter and slow to a crawl. But the solution is the suck the air bubbles out. Hope this helps someone else. ... show more

  • Don’t waste your time, very much worth the money, great product!
We camp a lot. As crazy as some of you might think it sounds, we also prep a lot and this is one of the more stable, quick, cleanest ways I have found to get fresh water in a pinch! Don’t hesitate, just do it. We also have the straws with those take a long time to suck up enough water and filter enough water to then put into a boiling pot, it just takes too long with these the time is cut in half or less and you have twice the amount If not triple the amount of clean drinkable water. ... show more

  • not complicated, I can see that it could be a little tricky, but it works. Takes up little space
Bought a couple on sale. I am always looking for ways to round out my preps. Clean water is important, and I felt like i was lacking in that department. I mean, I have some options, but I wanted more layers and redundancy (2 is 1, 1 is none). This is a simple gravity system. Not complicated. Looks good- not cheap looking or feeling. Comes in small slim boxes. I am storing in the box until actually needed. Makes good addition to camping gear, hiking gear, car kit, home emergency kit, etc. ... show more
