Several of the pieces have a rough grainy finish almost like sand. Amazon has issued me a refund. I was very disappointed in this as they look so pretty in the pictures.

I did not use this product because the surface of the dishware is rippled. I don't know why you might prefer a rippled surface, but perhaps you would. If so, these are the dishes for you.
