  • Good entry level tiller if you already have the necessary batteries
We are currently tearing up a grassy area for planting a garden (cut flowers and veggies/herbs and some fruit trees are planned). We had clay-ish soil that hardens up pretty well once it dries out so we will need to till in some top soil before we start - but even before we get to that point, we need to dig up the grass. We've tried the hand-hoe, which definitely works with some serious elbow grease - but even doing only a small portion in a day, the lower back soreness keeps us from going out on consecutive days. In case you don't read the listing description fully, this is for the TOOL only. The batteries are not included. But we happen to already have a small army of batteries. I would recommend the largest battery. This tool is light enough to easily carry to the area you need using one arm. The battery gave me enough time to clear a good portion of the garden before it dies. So either purchase a few batteries to be able to rotate if you have a large space, or plan on giving them time to fully recharge. For the grass-destruction, it worked best for me to go slowly in a column, then continue to move it to the side working into the next row. Some of the grass 'roots' were pretty stringy and it took some time to tear them all up, but it did eventually get the job done. At the end of the work period, I removed the battery and then was able to unwind the roots that wrapped around the tiller. All in all, its extremely convenient to not have to either rent a full machine or hire a company to come do this for us. I am sore from my hour-ish yesterday, but it is not in the realm of the hand-hoeing soreness. ... show more

  • Couldn't believe the power and performance of this mini brute
The media could not be loaded. This little tiller amazed me. It’s very solidly built and is heavy enough so it digs into the dirt all by itself. I had no expectation this would till anything other than soft garden soil. It far exceeded my expectations. If you watch the video the first half is tilling soil that is more compacted than garden soil. You could get a shovel in it but it wouldn’t be easy to dig. I thought the tiller would just bounce on the surface but it started digging in and breaking up the soil nicely. Fortunately the tiller is heavy enough to work its way into the soil without having to be pushed in. It did an excellent job and all I did was steer it. The second part of the video is the tiller trying to till compacted soil that would be hard to get a shovel into. I couldn’t believe how this little tiller was breaking up the hard soil, breaking up the clumps and pulverizing it into soft soil. The power and functionality of this tiller is shocking. It pulverized any type of soil I could find including soil with golf ball sized rocks. The tiller and tines showed no sign of wear. This tiller is a mini brute. The tiller is a real time and back saver. Powerful and strong enough to break up almost any type of soil. The tiller is very easy to take apart for cleaning and storage. It’s heavy enough to work effectively but light enough for anyone to handle. I was kind of dreading setting up our vegetable gardens with the hard packed soil we have but no longer. The tiller looks very strong and rugged to me and apparently the manufacturer thinks it is too. The have a 5-year warranty on the tiller. For its cost this tiller is amazing. You have to add batteries but considering how much back breaking work this can save it’s well worth it. ... show more

  • Great companion to Milwaukee M18 Electric Lawn Mower
This uses the same battery that powers the Milwaukee M18 Fuel 21-inch dual-battery lawn mower, the M18 HD12.0 (18V 12 amp-hours). The batteries are powerful but pricey but generic and third party are available. Even with the generic, the battery will cost about as much as the tiller. If you already have a tool that's using the M18 battery, transfer is easy. It plugs tightly into the tiller under the trigger handle. Assembly is also easy. The 2 parts of the handle plug into each other and tighten with a screw sleeve. The tines attach to the axle and are held in place with a cotter pin. An extra pin is provided. The middle handle has an adjustable tilt that snaps into the selected position. Shuts off automatically when battery gets low. It's perfect for the small home garden for seasonal soil turning or between-row-weeding. It isn't large or heavy enough for initial ground breaking, though. I tried it on some compacted soil and it chipped away at it but mainly just bounced on the surface. On already loosened soil such as in a garden, it turns quickly and easily. The main drawback is that if you don't own something that uses the M18 battery with a charger, it's a major purchase to add to use this tool alone. 5 stars - good for lightweight gardening ... show more

  • Very sturdy and strong digging tilling action.
We always have use the larger gas powered roto-tillers and was not sure what to expect from a mini electric one but I have been pleasantly surprised with this one. It was very easy to assemble although the instruction sheet was of little help there. You plug the handle parts together, put on the dirt shield with a single supplied bolt, and the two steel tines go on the bottom axle and are held in place with a small spring clip. on each side. I plugged one of my Milwaukee M18 battery packs in and it snapped into place well. It is operated with a single switch with a safety button on each side so you can use is left or right handed. It is fairly hefty at nearly 20 pounds with a battery installed. I initially tried it on some untilled ground and it dug through the sod and broke up the dirt clods well. It spins pretty fast and has some power to it. It would be great for tilling around plants in smaller areas and is much easier to control than the larger gas powered tillers. Probably better to use with larger power packs, and not sure how much time you get from a battery. But much easier to use, just plug in a battery and go. Recommended. ... show more
