  • Good So Far
Style: Old Package
I recently discovered that my nearly year old cat had terrible gum disease above his molars. He was born feral and had bad socialization problems, so I wasn't able to train him in oral care early, but didn't think things could go so bad so early (he has only had molars a few months!). His gums were bright, bright red, bleeding profusely when brushed, and he had *terrible* breath. I have been using Maxi-Care daily for 2wks, and have had good results. His breath no longer smells like death and there is much less blood when brushing (none last night!). And he likes the taste. There is no foaming at the mouth or behavior indicating any kind of medicinal product. He is better with this (he is *really* picky about food) than he is with pet toothpaste. I did lots of research on oral care products, and was very worried about choosing the right one, as many contain toxic ingredients. Granted, I haven't used it long, and will edit this review if the results change, but as of now, I highly recommend this. I still may have to subject him to a cleaning at the vet and antibiotics, but I will continue to use Maxi-Care for my cat's oral care. ... show more

  • Protect your cat's liver, kidneys, and heart... Brush their teeth...
Style: Old Package
I use two plastic finger brushes and a little Maxi-Guard to brush my cat's teeth at least once a week. Put the finger brushes on your index fingers. Pour a little Maxi-Guard into a small bowl. Dip the finger brushes into the bowl and get the plastic bristles wet. Get behind your cat's head. Now insert the brushes into the left and right side of your cat's mouth. Your cat will try to keep it's mouth shut which is a good thing. Now gently brush your cats teeth for 10-20 seconds. Dip the brushes into the bowl a second time to get the remainder of the Maxi-Guard. Brush for another 10-20 seconds. My Tuxedo cat Eddie was 27 years old when he passed away. When I take my cats in for a visit to the vet, their teeth and gums are like new. Their blood work is always perfect. And their heart, liver, and kidneys are like new. They never have bad breath. ... show more

  • Really helping
Style: Old Package
My dog just chews on toothbrushes when you try to use them, so we relied on "dental chews" from different brands to keep his breath fresh. His latest trip to the vet for a full teeth cleaning resulted in 3 front teeth being pulled... so we had to get much more serious about his dental health. We put a drop of this on his gums every night and are using a recommended dental treat (OraVet) and since then the vet says his teeth are MUCH better. Added bonus: his breath no longer smells like death. Bonus: 4 months later and this bottle is still basically full... ... show more

  • This actually does work!!!
Style: Old Package
My very old pomeranian has real bad gum problem on one side from a injury a few yrs back. His breath was awful. I was really it expecting much from this but to my surprise it works his breath is now normal and he looks better as far as his teeth are concerned. I had to do something and since he is 13 I wasn't going to have him poked at by a dr he likes the taste and it does seem to actually be working. The dark brown on his teeth is now lighter brown and the white is much whiter. Remember it's only 10 days so far. ... show more

  • Veterinarian recommended
Style: Old Package
I've been using this on my cats teeth for years. It was recommended by my veterinarian and it has worked great! I faithfully rub it on her teeth each night, with a cotton pad. No my cat would does not like that we began this regimend but we learned to make it work. It has all paid off as I have not needed to have any expensive dental treatments done by the doctor. My cat's breath has also improved. I highly recommend this product. BTW, I mix the product as recommended, then transfer a large portion into a small jar and keep it in the refrigerator. I refill the original container with only a small amount as needed every few weeks (that I store in the bathroom cabinet). This allows the product to stay fresh and nothing is wasted (nothing turns green). ... show more

  • Recommended by my vet, but not my dog's favourite
Style: Old Package
My 10 year old dog has advanced periodontal disease and requires nightly toothpaste in addition to annual cleanings at the vet. Our vet recommended this brand by name and I've been using it for over a year now. I'm hopeful it helps some but he still gets a LOT of plaque, and does not like as much as other doggie toothpastes we've tried (his favorite is the Burt's Bees foam). For my part, I dislike how thin the liquid is. It's very hard to administer just a small drop so we go through it very quickly. Because of that, I have to keep this product on a regular order, only because my vet assures me it's the one to use. I wish this had more viscosity as I feel it would stay on my dog's teeth a little better that way. I will keep using it per my vet's recommendation regardless. ... show more

  • Helps Kitty Bite Back !
Style: Old Package
Old kitty was having dental problems before I started using this product. Use it twice a day and no more tooth loss!! I do wish the white paint around the name MAXGUARD was the same color as the fresh liquid--that would help in knowing when to start a new bottle. It is a great buy even if you NEVER use the whole bottle. It also keep for a long time BEFORE you mix it. Mixing is simple: pour in small amount of pre-measured powder shake. I keep the bottle wrapped in tape and in the refrigerator because it is heat and light sensitive. Willie G Willow approves and even reminds me if I forget to work on his teeth. He chews on me....... ... show more

  • Not a gel, very thin and too runny
Style: Old Package
I have bought this brand before in a 2oz size. Been using this product for years. It was more of a gel. This 4oz size is so runny I can not get it in my dog's mouth before it's running all over my hand. Trying to think of some way to thicken it? Any ideas? I may just return it and look for something else. ... show more
