This mattress topper is outstanding. I have a bone spur in my shoulder and I wasn't able to sleep on my side until I bought this. Not only can I comfortably sleep on my side, but I was amazed that the pad is so comfortable, I don't toss and turn all night long. In addition to that, my lower back does not ache when I get up in the morning. That was such a pleasant surprise! You should definitely allow it to rest open for the full 48 hours before using it. I suggest that you also purchase a quilted mattress protector to use ON TOP of this, then your sheets, to preserve the foam. All things considered, I am very happy with it. I bought this for my elderly mom who suffers from back pain. It came yesterday and I took it out of the package and it started expanding immediately. Within 2 hours it was ready to put on her bed. I didn't tell her about it and when I helped her get up this morning I asked her how she felt. She said she felt amazing and her back didn't hurt at all, which is something she hasn't said in a very long time. I told her and showed her the memory foam and she was happy. The thickness is perfect for her hospital bed and she can still raise and lower the head and feet without a problem. I use a padded mattress cover over the top and then a sheet and it all fits fine. This topper is very comfortable and i love that it plumps back up quickly! I toss and turn and it doesnt take long for this topper to conform to new positions. It plumped up after about 4hrs out of the box. My only complaint is i am 3 days in and the smell is still awful! Like bad enough i removed it from my bed, had to wash the smell out of sheets, and it is now sitting in the spare room. Im hoping the smell will dissappear with a few more days. Also, i should add it is definitely not cooling! I had the topper under a bamboo cooling protector topped with cooling sheets and it was still very warm to me! So much so i turned on my fan lol. Excellent product, I am very happy with the quality, the fit, the comfort and durability. The pad arrives vacuum packed but expands to full size in just a few hours. I have been using this pad consistently for several months, and it has held up perfectly. It performs exactly like gel foam is supposed to---it gives in to pressure, but returns to shape once the pressure is removed. Some folks do not adjust to this type of pad and might prefer a pad that retains its shape and not "give". Gel foam is probably not a good choice for anyone whose body generates a lot of heat, or anyone who tosses and turns a lot, because your body will sink into this pad, just as the pad is designed to do. Best topper I’ve ever tried. It comes shrink wrapped and looks like a cheep thin piece of styrofoam when you first open it. It expands fast though. I put it on my bed about an hour after opening. It’s lightweight , I carried it from the living room to the bed room by myself and I got a king size. It’s firm yet also wonderfully plush, it conforms to your body. We have had this topper for a month. When it first arrived it expanded very quickly but did have a strong smell. We are fortunate enough to have an empty bedroom so we let it air out in there for 2 days. It would have been bearable for my husband but I’m migraine sensitive. This topper is extremely soft and when you first lay down it’s like you sink into the goodness. If you do not like soft this is not for you. Because it basically absorbs you, it does require a little more effort to move around. It does seem to retain body heat but not so that it disturbs my sleep.
