  • Great little tiller
Style: Tiller
Used for tilling in raised beds, weeding between rows & breaking up clods. Very well built with thick, heavy metal - makes it a little heavier than some competitors, but should be more durable. Very enthusiastic tiller that really chews stuff up - you should use some discretion with throttle control or it can get a little wild. Came promptly. Well packed. Assembled it in 30 min. without resorting to use of the vindictive (I tend to curse a lot when frustrated). Instructions state you will need 2- 7/16th wrenches. You will do better with one wrench & a ratchet with an extension. If you get the kickstand (you really should), you will also need a 3/8 in. wrench. Started easily out of the box. Worked most of the afternoon without a hiccup. Transport handle makes it easy to carry - no need for wheels. Appears to be a very good value. ... show more

  • did a better job tilling garden than a professional I hired in the spring!
Style: Tiller
I have had a Mantis tiller for over 20 years. I've used it to make all my many flower beds, till up my medium size garden twice a year, edge driveway and sidewalks, thatch my lawn. It has been my work horse. Finally died on me this year and even a new carberater didn't help, it was shot. So broke down and got a new one and best investment Ever!! The only thing I don't like is the bulky plastic handles. I'm a 5 foot almost 70 year old woman and my hands barely get a good grip around them. My old one had the metal pipe with handgrips and easier for me to grip and maneuver. I do like the newer on/off switch that is more user friendly, as I would accidentally shut my old one off in use with the old set up. Otherwise I am extremely happy and look forward of giving this one 20 more years of good use!! ... show more

  • Awesome
Style: Tiller
I have had Mantis tillers for years. I bought my first one over 30 years ago and it was still running up until this last summer. With regular cleaning, filter changes and just over all care, 30 years is a long time for any product. It is a great product!

  • Works great if it starts
Style: Tiller
The tiller part works great. Wouldn't start and run worth a crap. I replaced the carburetor and now we can used it.

  • Mantis
Style: Tiller
I love this little, fierce tiller! I was able to till up new flower beds with this. It is amazing. It's lightweight and easy to start. I can move it easily around the yard. I wish I would have gotten it a long time ago!

  • Top quality. Reliable and tough. Easy to start.
Style: Tiller
Used to repair lawn where large stumps were ground. Area was 7500 Square feet. This tiller was up to the task. I had no interest in manuvering or storing a full size tiller, and this can hang on the wall. It was easy on my back. Changing tine direction allows for shallow or deep digging, used areator tines to scratch into existing grass to add seed and it worked out great. Now that I have it I will be fixing bad places all around I would have never fixed. I grab it for new plantings as it makes a great small hole as well. Far better than a shovel for an older person. 1 year update. Did a new 8000 sq foot area and tiller is still going strong. Ran four tankfuls of fuel in one day and the tiller never stopped. After this new area was complete I did a tear down and cleaning. Drive mechansim is in great shape and ready for more. I am very impressed with the build quality. ... show more

  • A real lemon!
Style: Tiller
I have updated my original 5 star review to this 1 star! This product was easy to assemble and worked great, twice. Since the second use it has been riddled with issues; it won't stay running while idling, it won't run while under any load, it turns off randomly while in full throttle just to name a few of the issues. I called mantis and they told me it was not covered by the warranty, so I replaced the carburetor with the exact same one that came on it. Same issues. I brought it in for service at a local shop they got it running and again it worked great, once. This year I brought it to another repair shop, they replaced the carburetor again and got it running but it will not work consistently or reliably. It is riddled with the same on-going issues. I have now spent an equal amount on service as the original purchase price. I only use trufuel and either run it dry or drain the fuel after every use. I have several other lawn care tools with small engines from all different manufacturers; Stihl, Toro, Ariens and honda I have never once had an issue with any of them. For the reputation that Mantis has I am disappointed to say the least. Lesson learned, I'll stay away from mantis products as this one is a real lemon! ... show more
