    • Works great for worsted weight
This product DOES have a bit of a learning curve to it, but once you understand that curve, it’s smooth sailing. What it does well: cakes yarn in small amounts. I’d say it gets about maybe 70 yards before I have to snip and start a new cake. So if you don’t want lots of little cakes, maybe look for a different winder. I don’t personally mind it. But that is something I wanted to point out. The trick I’ve found to winding yarn is placing the skein to the left of the winder, thread it, tension the yarn to the right, holding it upwards and away from the metal part as you wind. Winding it at a moderate speed, and slowing down once it looks like it won’t hold anymore without getting trapped under the gears, which you can read about in other reviews. It seems redundant to mention it here. It cakes DK, and worsted like a dream. I imagine it would work for lace weight, too but I haven’t personally tried. What it DOESNT do well: Bulky yarn IS doable if you take a metal clip and use that to weave the yarn through, however I wouldn’t recommend it. It works, but not well, and the center winder kept popping off. Caking one skein in one wind is not going to happen like I mentioned above, so if that is your preference, id look at a larger winder. ... show more

I've been considering getting one of these for a while but thought they were expensive for "something I could do myself". Boy did I wait to long to buy this! I crochet almost daily for over a decade and should have bought this years ago. It's well worth it! Not only is it perfect to control my yarn stash, but it's very relaxing to use! I bought as a replacement for one that I lost. It works well, serves its purpose. It's easy to use. For those that say they have a problem: I find it easiest to wind with my left hand and have the skein/ball on the right side, whole holding steady tension with my hand.
