At first I wrote a negative review. We did not have a power failure for a long time (at least when I was home), but 7 months after buying, the lights did not work. I went to replace it and discovered that the batteries were not plugged in (there is a male and female connector in the unit connecting the battery pack). I simply joined them together and the unit worked fine. If you wire in the unit and the little light is red, that means the batteries are not connected. The old light was toast so I needed something to replace it. The new technology uses LEDs rather than incandescent lights, so the battery is smaller and the light is just as effective. Very happy with this light!

I should have read the ad a little closer. We had Lithonia emergency lights in our building and I mistakenly assumed that they would be of the same quality and use the same type of battery as the ones we already have which are 12v batteries with terminals, these are small like a AA battery and the light is not very bright.
