I just installed two of these. They appear very sturdy with good brass fittings. I’ve had the plastic ones in the past and they develop leaks pretty quickly. Some comments said the handles are loose. That’s true but only on the rubber grip. The attachment to the reel is tight. The loose fit could be fixed with a washer if it bothers you (not me). Doesn’t come with mounting bolts (as noted by others). But mounting is specific to the wall construction. Mine is brick. Wood screws won’t work. Buy what works for you and don’t pay for screws that get thrown in a junk drawer. ... show more

I needed a new garden hose reel for my back yard as the old plastic ground-based reel fell apart. After plenty of research, I purchased this one. What an excellent choice. Very well made, super sturdy, and works like a charm. And, it looks great! Love the shelf on top, on which I store extra hose nozzles, the occasional water bottle while moving the lawn, work gloves, etc. In my case, I mounted it to a poured concrete wall using a carbide-tipped drill bit, hammer drill, and tapcon screws. It was really tough getting this screwed all the way in but well-worth it. The only issue, which they do address in their instructions and on the website, is that the leader hose may spin and knot/kink, when it is not supposed to. I shot a bit of silicone spray inside the mechanism which they suggest and all is now good. Pulling the hose out is a breeze. And to my pleasant surprise, reeling it back up is equally easy. I did not want the model that has the worm screw that makes the hose coil a certain way. Instead, I use my hand to guide it when reeling it in. I also selected this one since it is unlikely to rust (cast aluminum?). Love this hose reel, the way it looks, and how easy it is to pull out the hose and reel it back in! Happy Update- Thank you Amazon for unconditionally standing behind products like this. I asked for an exchange and had it in two-days with a shipping label to cover faulty one return. The weld on THIS unit is perfectly smooth, does not leak one drop anywhere; see two NEW photos. Love this thing, perfect for our application, and looks great... WOOHOO! Notice the dimples on the top of the weld when water is OFF; the other areas are smooth. Turn water ON and a high-pressure of water shoots to the ceiling. Disappointed in quality control since it's pretty evident; requested return & replacement. Crossing fingers the second one will be 100% as I really like everything else about it. ... show more

I've bought 6 of these over the last 5 years for two different houses. They are nice looking and sturdy, and they make rolling up hoses much easier. Leaves a neat appearance if you do it right (see below). Tips: 1) To take pressure off the reel, don't try to roll up a long hose that's all twisted and/or strung across the yard. I drag the hose over in front of the reel area in a few sections arranged like a switchback road up a mountain (no loops crossing each other, if you can picture that). 2) Drain water from the hose before reeling it in to reduce the pressure and weight. Makes it much easier. 3) Use your non-crank hand to guide the hose onto the reel to make a nice tight wind. This is a must especially if you're using a really long hose or it won't all fit. I gave 5 stars in spite of having to return one because of a leak inside the drum. They replaced it no problem. This is the best hose reel I've used. All the retractable and automatic reel ones have not lasted and been wasted money. Get this one instead and follow the tips above for a good, long-lasting, attractive reel. Heh, I sound like I work for their marketing department, but I assure you I don't. ... show more
