  • Works great, nice to charge at home.
Style: Hardwired J1772 (For All Other EVs)
This product was easy to set up after the electrician added a new circuit. The installation was relatively easy since the charger is only 12 feet from the panel. The only hitch was the new circuit breaker was defective and the electrician had to replace it.

  • ChargePoint Home Flex Charger: A Lightning-Fast Journey into the Electrifying Future of EV Charging
Style: NEMA 6-50 Plug NACS (For Tesla EVs)
When I first stumbled upon the ChargePoint Home Flex Charger, I was considering the complexities of my garage's welder outlet, a relic of past projects that never quite ignited as I intended. But voila! This ingenious charger turns my once neglected outlet into a beacon of sustainable progress. Installation was as effortless as you could imagine—plug and play at its finest. It was almost too simple, a testament to ChargePoint's design intuition that doesn't belittle the user but embraces them. **Pros:** - **Superlative Installation**: Forget the "some assembly required" nightmares. This was a breeze—plug it in and watch the magic unfold, like Gandalf showing up to deal with a minor dragon issue. - **Blazing Speed**: Charging my Tesla at 30 miles of range per hour is akin to having my own personal lightning bolt at home. If Nikola Tesla were alive today, he'd likely tip his hat at this speed—7 times faster than a standard wall outlet, practically bending the laws of electricity in my favor. - **App Brilliance**: The ChargePoint App might as well have a diploma hanging on the wall. It syncs effortlessly with smart home devices, practically reading my mind on when I need to charge and suggesting stations that I swear I’d once seen in a dream. - **Robust and Rugged**: Built to withstand the test of time and weather, it defies the odds—be it a blizzard or a curious toddler with a penchant for unplugging things. - **Cable of Mythical Proportions**: The 23-foot cable, reaching lengths you’d only expect in tall tales, ensures I can park my Tesla any which way the wind—or my reversing skills—blow me. **Cons:** - **Community Attraction**: Word has spread, and suddenly my garage is becoming a pit stop for friendly neighbors “just wanting to chat.” The community spirit is heartwarming, but I’m running out of cookies to offer. - **Eager Reminders from the App**: While the app's enthusiasm is commendable, its reminders are frequent enough that I’m considering inviting it to my calendar’s weekly mindfulness session. - **Pricey Investment**: This piece of technological art doesn’t come cheap, but neither does Picasso, and similarly, its value appreciates every day I use it. **Summary:** The ChargePoint Home Flex Level 2 EV Charger is more than just a device; it’s a lifestyle upgrade. It ushers in a future where electric charging is not only accessible but an enjoyable aspect of everyday life. I feel empowered, enlightened, and just a little bit smug every time I plug in. This isn’t merely about miles; it’s about a movement. If charging is the future—and let’s face it, it is—then ChargePoint is the torchbearer leading us into this bright, electrified frontier. The way this charger simplifies what used to be a cumbersome task, paired with the connectivity of its app, turns every plug-in into an event worth celebrating. Like, love, comment, and share—especially with those friends still stuck in the gas-guzzling past. Let’s take this journey together because the future is electric, and you’ll want ChargePoint leading the charge, literally! ... show more

  • Excellent charger for basic use
Style: Hardwired J1772 (For All Other EVs)
This is a very good home charger. It’s attractive. It has a high current capacity. It is easy to use. Setup is easy. Download the ChargePoint app. Set the power source (hardwired or outlet) and set the breaker amperage (usually 60 A). Once you set those two parmeters, just connect the charger to your car. It can’t get a lot simpler than that. So far, it’s a solid 5 stars. Advanced functions are available. You can connect the charger to your WiFi, issue simple commands through Alexa, and configure your charging station to save money by charging only during non-peak hours. The advanced functions are awful. I give them one star, only because if you are persistant enough it is possible to make things work, with unexpected limitations. Overall, I give this charger 4 stars because it’s central function is charging your car without a lot of hassle, which it does well. Here are some of the limitations I found. Chargepoint can be set to lower cost during non-peak hours. My power company requires a compatible charger and a compatible car. The list of compatible cars is short. My Nissan Leaf is not on the list. That’s no fault of ChargePoint. For those who do meet all of the requirements, Chargepoint imposes a major limitation. My utility has non-peak hours from 8 PM to 10 AM weekdays in the winter time. In the summer, it’s 9 PM to 7 AM and 11 AM to 5 PM. There’s a chart in the pictures. The prolem is, ChargePoint allows you to enter only one non-peak block. The settings screen is also in the pictures. If I were eligible, I would have to give up one of the non-peak charging times in the summer. Chargepoint can display your charging history. There are several detail screens. One of them is in the pictures. It looks terrific. All the data you could want. I divided the KWh by the cost to get cost per KWh. My utility company charges me 15.2 cents per KWh. Chargepoint gave me anything from 16 to 20 cents per KWh. The information looks pretty, but it is pretty useless. You can interface ChargePoint with Alexa. Several reviews on the Google Play store indicate the app doesn’t work. I found that it does work, kind of. I want to stop charging when the battery is 80% full. My car won’t do this for me. So I created a charging curve, and from that I created a charging table. For example, if the car has 50% charge, I want to charge the car for 1 hour, 5 minutes. The other thing I did was to issue the command “Alexa, ask ChargePoint to stop charging the car” when I acknowledge an alarm. Here’s how it works. I connect the charger. I ask Alexa to create an alarm in 1 hour and 5 minutes. When I acknowledge the alarm, I expect to hear “OK. I have stopped charging the car.” Instead I hear “The charger is not connected”. WHAT??? After several experiments, I found that automation only works when the car is connected during peak hours. Then you can wait for non-peak hours, or you can say “Alexa, please ask ChargePoint to charge the car.” I chose to set the schedule so that it’s always peak hours, and ask Alexa to start charging, then set the alarm, then I can stop the charging by acknowledging the alarm. ChargePoint did a lousy job of designing their product. It should behave much more predictably. But that’s not the worst of it. So far as I can see, there is no way to update firmware. ChargePoint actually expects their customers to live with lousy, barely functional automation for as long as they own the charger. Humbug! ... show more

  • Easy to Setup, Works Great
Style: Hardwired J1772 (For All Other EVs)
I got this on a prime day sale, and it wa the charger I was most interested in. The capability to charge at 50A with a 70A breaker is quite rare, as most chargers (and cars) cap at 48A. The app is also solid, pairing with my utility company to allow for rate discounts for charging at non peak times. I expect that feature alone to pay for the charger over its lifespan. ... show more
