I've been a furniture maker for years, but I'm new to resins. I thought I would try a table top project before working with a deep pour product. I did a lot of research into different resins to find a material with low toxicity and consistent results. I think this will be my product of choice! I did a number of tests with pure resin and adding some of the alcohol dyes and I was really pleased with the results right from the beginning. I did single and multi coat pours (sanding between coats) and each pour consistently hardened in just under a day (about 60 degrees in the shop). It let me embed small elements in the pour and the transitions between layers were invisible. Edges on my tabletop were clean and the resin had the right viscosity to flow and smooth out but could cling to vertical surfaces well. What I liked: 1. Mixing was easy with the 1:1 ratio of resin to hardener. 2. Very little odor. 3. Remarkably clear and durable final finish. 4. Reasonably priced and a great way to get started with the medium. Please note. Even though it's low odor, all resins must be used in very well ventilated spaces while mixing, curing and during any sanding or planing. Use proper respiratory and eye protection recommended for the process. Also gloves and protective covering should be used to avoid skin contact with uncured resin. ... show more

Other then the caps needing either a plastic heat seal or electrical tape seal, the resin works like it should. I've bought the smaller bottles so I assume it's the same kind of resin. It would have been great without the leak, the cap on bottle A was almost completely off. It Even with the twist "seals", they come off. (Pieces in pictures are using let's resin alcohol inks with the petri dish method.) Tips for using the resin: Do NOT use a scale. It screws up the measurements, I learned this the hard way with many, many uncured pieces and wasted money. If you can get the scale method to work, good on you. Use condiment bottles to put your resin in and label them. For smaller batches, it makes it a lot easier. These bottles can also be put into warm water to thin the resin, making it easier to pour and measure. Use separate mixing cups for a and b and pour them into another container, mix, then pour into another container and mix again. This will limit sticky spots and weak points and make sure the resin is COMPLETELY mixed. I tend to over mix so I haven't had this problem personally lol Too much pigment and glitter can be a big issue. Try not to go overboard. You can use acrylic paint to color but only use a very, very tiny amount. Buy actual pigments for completely opaque color (recommend mica powder) Please for the love of God use gloves. They say it's non toxic but the rashes are not fun. A fume mask and good ventillation as well. You can become extremely allergic to it and not be able to work with it at all. Baby and alcohol wipes are your friends, make sure to keep some accessible while you're working on your projects. DO NOT USE WATER!!!! WATER WILL MAKE IT STICKIER AND HARDER TO COME OFF (yes, even with soap/dish soap). I hope this info will help others! Have fun creating! ... show more

The main complaints about epoxy resin are...It turns yellow. It has bubbles. It does not cure. I have used many brands and I really like this stuff for both art casting and coating. After about 24 hours a 1/4" thick casting is still a little bendable, but the next day it is very rigid and strong. UV TEST IN AZ SUMMER. I put a 1/4" x2x2" clear square that I cast in a latex mold in 100 + sun for 6 months and it was still pretty darn clear with no yellowing. Measure correctly, mix well and you will get a nice, bubble free casting or coating. Buy a cheap concrete vibrator ,bolt it to the bottom of a sheet of plywood and screw the plywood sheet to an old tire to make a monster of a vibrator if you are doing large, thick casting and worry about bubbles .Great resin and great price in my opinion. ... show more

This is the first time o bought this brand of resin and it has been great to work with and does good with releasing the bubbles. Dries very clear and no issues yet. I finished this set and then bought the 2 gallon set now to continue to do our projects.
