This stereo puts out sound that's better than Bose! I just bought this 2 days ago, set it up and have not turned it off since, far better than I thought it would be. It's true that the owners manual is garbage, not very well written. However, I can't condemn this product due to that, it may have been written and printed by an outside company. The setup process is more involved than an ordinary stereo because this is NOT an ordinary stereo, it's way beyond. If the purchaser is familiar with how to set up a laptop or cell phone as most people are, then there's no problem. It's as simple as that. Once I set mine up, I was amazed at what this stereo can do. I like to listen to classical music and this stereo allows me to seek stations by classical music genre, it also allows me to choose stations of my local area or the entire USA or to select numerous other countries. I can also select what type of classical music I want, such as piano, guitar etc. Regardless of what station I choose, the reception is perfect every time. Most of these radio stations are without commercial advertising and they are all free. This stereo comes with a 3 year warranty, more than Bose who offers only 1 year and I believe once you get it set up, you too will not want to shut it off.     • expensive & usb doesn't work well enough for the price
this review needs to be read keeping in mind the fact that this item is over $300. If it was 69.95 like it should be, I wouldn't complain. Biggest problem is that when you attach a USB with folders, it plays the songs inside of a folder but then stops, it doesn't move on to the next folder. You might have 10 hours of music in total it will stop after whatever was in the folder it happens to be in, if that be 1 song then that's it. Then it waits for you to put on a different song. Sure there's a repeat function but that doesn't help me. I wanted this for my kids room so I can play some music for him when he goes to bed. The $100 radio I had before would play all songs on that same USB stick in order, about 2 hours worth, and then stop. This $300 "upgrade" can't do it. The real problem is that there are so few choices right now for small desktop stereos. I was thinking of getting a Bose but didn't want to spend $500-700 just yet. A few more choices out there to try. And yes, like others have said, this thing is over-the-top hard to set up. Also the universal knob on top of the unit is hard to work with. For example, if you are inside of a folder and you want to back out, you can't. You have to press "menu" and start all over again. Another thing is that the sound quality is not that great for anything except low listening levels, like about the loudness of a conversation. Go above that and the music distorts. I also tried to play with the Equalizer settings and found it confusing if not useless. Switching from "Jazz" to "Rock" for example I couldn't hear a difference. Switcing the Subwoofer "on" or "off" didn't seem to make a difference either. Then there's something called "Your EQ" but it doesn't show the typical graphic equalizer and the different frequencies. So overall that was junk. This thing is not intuitive, it's confusing, sub par sound, doesn't play all the folders on a usb stick, has an annoying universal control (that you need a magnifying glass to read all the options), and costs over $300..... time to return it. ... show more

    • Excellent sound. Versatile system
I bought this unit to replace a high end TEAC bookshelf system I bought over ten years ago which is now giving me trouble with CD playback. I wanted something that could play CDs and could connect to internet radio stations, FM radio and Spotify. This system does all of that and more. The instructions were clear and straightforward. The controls are intuitive and centered on a top mounted dial making for a simple, understated and elegant design. The system can be controlled on the unit itself, via remote or by using a simple app available from Google Play. Connection to WiFi was just a few simple steps. You are prompted to get an account at the Frontier Smart website in order to easily find thousands of ìnternet radio stations and add them to your favorites so the system can access them in a couple of clicks. The sound quality is excellent, adjustable by EQ controls from your phone. A second set of active speakers can be added to the system if desired. I am very satisfied with this unit. First of all, let me point out that if you read the lowest Amazon review ratings for this unit the main reason for the low rating concerns setup, poor instructions and complexity in general. It's true that the manual leaves much to be desired and setup takes time and patience and sometimes trial and error. But make no mistake. This is an awesome piece of equipment. It will fill your home with wonderful full sound. I couldn't be happier with the look (a real wood cabinet perfectly finished) the deep bases, and the overall wonderful sound coming from this compact little gem. If you're a hi-fi novice and electronics is not your strength, then find a techy friend to help you setup and get started. Don't overlook this unit.
