  • If you are ready for adventure, this is a great place to start.
Like the other reviewer stated, this is actually a Thule Tepui tent with the Leer logo on it. I can verify that. So, which do you want to pay? 950$ =150 shipping? Or 1800$? Pretty easy decision to me. As for the tent itself, we are super happy with it. I am 6'2" and my wife is 5'3". We both fit in this tent with plenty of room to spare. The length provide plenty of room for extra gear at your feet, or a dog or small child. The width would allow a child to sleep along side as well, but it will be a bit tighter. I think it is perfect for 2 adults, even tall ones. It is doable for two adults and a child/dog. The video (Thule Tepui on Youtube) is super easy to follow and I was an expert at setting it up in no time at all. One key factor that I would call out is to pay close attention to the way you set the ladder up when you open it. You MUST lock in each step to ensure that when you put all your weight on the tent that the ladder holds it up and prevents your body weight from bending it back against the hinges. Just FYI. This almost happened to me and I could see it happening to someone who doesn't like to follow instructions closely. So you have been warned! Something else I really liked is how easy it is to dial in for your environment. If you are in windy conditions, it has tie downs on the bottom to prevent the wind from closing you up like a sandwich. But, you will have to supply your own tent pegs. At least, I didn't get any with it. But I carry four to five of those anyway in my regular gear. If you are in a low spot with little to no breeze, you can open up all of the windows and maximize ventilation and air movement. If it isn't going to rain, you can even open up the two panels in the ceiling and look at the stars. We spent one night in a torrential downpour and didn't feel anything getting around the tent fly. We had three sides open to keep air moving and stayed plenty dry. One of the issues with the tent is the mattress. It doesn't have a condensation fighting mat layer, and the mattress itself is only marginally comfortable. If you are younger and can sleep on hardwood, it will work fine for you. But if you are a bit more dependent on the right sleeping arrangements, you may have to dial it in with a mattress topper or replace the mattress altogether. We got a 99$ topper from Wally World and it works great. But we have to roll it up every time we break down camp because the tent won't close fully with it still in there. So that part is not ideal. We will probably eventually replace the mattress with a better one. Finally, I did have a little bit of a back and forth with the Leer customer service. Because Amazon is only the store front, you don't really work with their folks. The shipping company got turned away by one of the office folks at my apartment and yet it showed in the system as "delivered." I had no idea who to call to get them to come back. I definitely didn't get my tent. I put that in the Amazon interface and was told by Leer (several hours later) that I would have to call the shipping company. Technically, they are correct and I was perfectly willing to do that, but I had no way of knowing who they used. But I soldiered on and looked up the name of the company, then googled their different locations, called a bunch of them, finally identified the folks who shipped the tent and arranged with them to deliver it while I was at home. This took me a few days. After I had it all sorted, I put in the comments to Leer that I was not happy and would reflect that in my review. They then called me the next day to inform me of the time the company would deliver my tent. I told them that I was aware because I was the one who set it all up. But honestly, the guy was very cool and apologetic to me. The tent arrived on time and I've been super happy with it ever since. I just hope they are a bit more responsive in future interactions. Final thoughts: this is a great tent for a great price. It is light enough for most vehicles and capable enough for most adventures. I highly recommend it at this price. ... show more

  • Wow! Thule Tepui
I want to start by saying, I was hesitant to order this from amazon as there were zero reviews and very little information on the Leer Rooftop Tent. The tent arrived today via FedEx Freight. I ordered it less than a week ago so shipping time was very good for such a large item. To start, the tent weighs 150#s. It was hard to find on the listing so I wanted to point that out straight away. Prior to opening the box, I couldn’t find any installation instructions online for a Leer Rooftop Tent. To my surprise, this tent is identical to a Thule Tepui. And when I say identical, I mean the instruction booklet lists that this product is manufactured and warranted through Thule. A Thule Tepui is a $1400+ tent so this is a steal. The instructional videos for a Thule Tepui match how to prepare this tent for installation down to a T so if you have any questions for installation like I did, there's where to look! It took myself and a friend to install it on the roof. 2 guys probably would have had an easier time with it. The tent is grey and blue, the colors are deep and vibrant and the material is very thick and sturdy. I will update my review once I have it fully installed and have a few nights out camping in it. UPDATE: The first outing was a success! It’s generous to call this a 3 person tent, however. Myself (5’8 175 lbs female) and my 2 kids (5 yrs and 7 yrs) fit comfortably, but I don’t think 3 adults would fit without being squished against the walls. The mattress fits a full-sized bed sheet for reference. The tent was cozy and warm, ventilation was good but there was still some condensation (to be expected with 3 people and a dog breathing all night lol) I was impressed with how quickly the condensation dried in the sun when it was time to pack up. I did give it a once over with a hand towel though cuz I don’t want any mildew. The poles that hold the rain fly have a bit of a learning curve to get in and remove. I highly recommend watching some Tepui YouTube vids for tricks to make life easier. The one thing I don’t love is the rain fly pops out when re-folding the tent and is a pain to tuck back in. I was able to remedy this by having my kids hold the ladder at the halfway point as I ran around and tucked the rain fly better and then lowered it down. I’ve seen vids of folks getting a long bungee to remedy this issue so I’m going to give that a try! All in all a great product and we can’t wait to go out in it again! ... show more
