      • Battery electric lawn mowers have come a long way

    Way back in 2011 I bought a Black & Decker CM1836 36-Volt Cordless Lawn Mower (not from Amazon, but I got it for a steep discount and was eager to get rid of the smelly, difficult-to-start gas lawn mower I'd been using). Unfortunately, It was awful (it's discontinued now but strangely has good reviews on Amazon) -- poor power (couldn't cut through long or damp grass), and short run time. Plus it didn't have a removable battery, so I had to drag it into my house to re-charge (I didn't have a garage, and my shed didn't have power). Just a nightmare experience, and I ended up giving it away and went back to my stinky, smelly gas powered lawn mower. In 2016 I decided to give electric lawn mowers another shot, but this time I bought a corded one (a Greenworks 25112) from Amazon, as I'd recently used a corded grass trimmer and was quite pleased with the performance. The lawn mower was only $150 (although I had to spend another $40 for a 100' extension cord). This delivered the kind of performance I was hoping for in 2011 -- a quick instant start every time, ample power, and clean and quiet. I used it for 7+ years and was fine with it, but of course using the long extension cord was an annoyance -- untangling it, dragging it to one outlet for the back, then another for the front, having to always be conscious where it was to ensure I didn't run over it, then having to wrap it back up and put it away for next time. So when I saw this Lawnmaster on sale for under $250 (less than I'd paid for a much less capable model in 2011), I figured I'd give it another shot. And boy, am I glad I did. I've used it a half dozen times so far and it hasn't disappointed. It is significantly lighter than the corded electric lawn mower I was using, and along with no longer needing a cord it makes it a breeze to maneuver. It's had no issue cutting through longer or wet grass, and the battery has lasted for my entire yard. The batteries are removable, of course, and popping them in and out to charge is a breeze. I know there are more expensive, feature-laden models out there, but I can't think of anything else I'd want on this one for a standard yard. Very happy with this purchase. ... show more

    Right off the box, the mower looks like a toy with all plastic look, compared with my old gas mower. However, it is very powerful as it goes through thick wet grass like nothing, whereas my old 150cc gas mower would struggle hard. Setup is simple, start up sequence needs instructions. The mower does fold down to compact size easily. Spillage is minimal. The mulch collector would get quite packed but it does not spill at all. Moreover, you can tip it over to clean the blade bowl. Charging only takes couple hours. One drawback, since it is all plastic, I do not think i can store it outside with cover on like I did with my old metal mower. Overall, this mower makes mowing easy and fast, quiet, powerful, no engine vibration, no need for engine maintenance like oil change, filter replacement... ... show more

    I think I don't need to say anything about it，the pictures will show the result. Easy to install and use. And use two batteries so it is no limited by distance，also works great and powerful，The lawn is very flat like a green carpet. Really like it.

    I ordered this LawnMaster mower in early September and it arrived quickly. I had trouble with it only lasting a couple of minutes of mowing. I contacted the manufacturer and followed their instructions to try to get it to mow my small lawn. Eventually I had to dismantle it to test the connections and have specific information to give the manufacturer. The problem was in the sealed power transfer block, probably a defective power or heat limiter. They then agreed that I should strip the identifying information off the mower, send it to them and I should dispose of the mower, they'd send a new one. I chose to keep the defective mower until I had a replacement. After a week I contacted the manufacturer and they said it'd be 25 to 30 days to get the replacement mower to me. After 33 days I contacted them and they said they were contacting the carrier to find our what happened. They were to get back to me by the end of the week. No contact, no response to my follow up email. I then called Amazon, knowing that I was well out of the return window. As best I can tell LawnMaster set me up to be unable to get help from Amazon or contact them again. It was fortunate that I chose to hold onto the defective mower. Amazon was very accommodating, accepting the return and making a refund less a restocking fee. I'm glad Amazon did not leave me hanging, although I don't think I owed a restocking fee or that the product could be restocked - defective and without identifying markings. ... show more

      • Perfect solution for a small yard.

    Saves me $50 a pop every time my lawn needs mowing. (and keeps the HOA off my back) I can mow easily the whole lawn with the two batteries. The mower is easy to use and cleans quickly afterward. Love it. (and it gives my old bod a little workout to boot.)

    Cons: Does not provide a clean cut, so I need to go over my lawn a second time. A picture is worth a 1,000 words. This is how much grass was collected on the 2nd pass (about 20% more grass that was missed during the 1st pass). For reference, I have a small 50'x15' grass area in my California back yard. My previous battery-powered lawn mower allowed me to manually set the power to a higher setting (faster blade spin) and that previously solved the problem. However, this lawnmower automatically 'revs up' as needed, so I cannot control that setting. If I could, that might solve the issue.... Pros: Small, lightweight (and very easy to maneuver around my yard), easy to store (in my garage) as the handles fold. Also, the batteries seem to last a long time between charging (several weeks for my small lawn). ... show more
