worked very well

  • Works Great - but there are caveats
I bought an Atomstack S10 pro engraver a few months ago and was never satisfied with the performance of their '10 watt optical power' laser head. It worked great for engraving on wood and slate, but couldn't cut 3mm basswood plywood or anything thicker than this - regardless of number of passes (I gave up on 3mm basswood plywood after 5 passes because it just couldn't cut through and the position accuracy on multiple passes was not that good so the cuts washed out and charred to the point of not being usable). So I looked for a more powerful laser. Atomstack and XTool both advertise a 20 watt optical power laser head but both are more expensive than this one and I've only seen the one from Atom stack available in a bundle with their air assist unit. Then I found this laser head, touted as 20 watts optical power and at a better price point that the other two competitors. The only caveats - 1. Absolutely no mounting hardware or bolt pattern information is provided; You must DIY your own mounting system to work on your engraver.; 2. An installation manual is not included in the package but there is one available on line which does give the the dimensions, connections and focusing information; 3. You must fabricate something to mount the laser that also provides the means to adjust the focal point (z axis). So, I fabricated a suitable mount and installed it on my engraver, made the necessary connections to the controller and ran a test. OMG, what a HUGE difference. my engraver finally behaves the way the manufacturer says it's supposed to. I am just beginning to run tests, but I have already found this laser will cut my 3mm basswood plywood in one pass. Engraving looks great. I can't speak to longevity as I just put it into service. I will update as I run more tests and discover its abilities but for now I am very happy with this laser head. If you are looking for a moderately priced 20 watt optical power laser head and don't mind a little DIY to get it mounted, this is the module for you. Final note - I bought the package that comes with a power supply and power switching board since I didn't trust the engraver power supply to be able to supply enough current for this module. Electrical connection was simple and the power switch board has a switch to select either the engraver power supply or the external power supply. ... show more

  • Instructions aren't clear but the laser is great.
Size: 20W Laser Output
The laser has the power and if you are familiar with laser cutting, then it's an easy upgrade. If not, the manual is confusing and there isn't an installation video for doing an upgrade. I'll be making an installation video this week for that very reason. What to know: It's a 24v unit so you'll have to check your power supply to your board and determine what it's output volts are. If it has any number over 24 volts you're okay. If it is 12 volts you have to use the adapter. The GREEN plug goes as shown in the booklet. I used a three pin cable from my controller board to the D pin plug on the adapter. Make sure your PWM, GRD and Power are the same on both ends and the switch is set to EXT. It will work with Lightburn. If the plug has reversed PWM and POWER, you'll have to cut the cable and solder them back together and cover with shrink tubing. You can use butt splices or even wire nuts but I prefer the soldered joints covered with shrink tubing to prevent moisture from degrading the wires. My YT Channel is @GetRealwithMike and the how-to video should be on by February 2024. Other than that, the laser has been a dream to use. ... show more

  • Inexpensive 20 W alernative to the other brands that focus on the CNC market.
Size: 20W Laser Output
Had to do some minor manipulation to afix the last=r to my Z Axis. The drive is in the cabinet where it runs off of a 24 Watt power supply and three line connecor to the lasr itself. I use a manual voltage regulator to control the laser wattage output vs. the slider in my Sienci SLB. It works perfectly with the Sience SLB Controller. ... show more

  • LT-4LDS-V2 failed after about 8 total hours of operation.
Size: 20W Laser Output
I purchased this laser module and only used it to cutt 3mm basswood. I attemted to do some engraving with it as well, but the simple text and small vector graphics turned out terrible at any detting. It worked great for cutting until it lost 90% of it's power after about 8 hours of total operation over a two week period. I returned the first one and replaced it with a second unit. It failed after about 10 hours of total operation as well. I will not attempt a third one. ... show more

  • Engraves stainless steel
Size: 20W Laser Output
This thing is so middle of the road as far as what the market has to offer, it's too powerful for many things and underpowered for an equal number of others. For instance, framing the laser with 0.01% power still results in a 78MW output. 78MW is still enough to burn into most materials so jogging and firing or framing with laser on will probably leave unintended marks and the laser can't be seen once it burns a fine hole. It's really powerful which means you also have to move it quickly. There's a fine line between charring and engraving wood. It does engrave stainless steel which is almost totally redeeming of it's undesirable qualities. I get 10+ distinct shades and colors on a very thick workpiece, enough to pull off scenery and grayscale images. I highly advise always using air, the lens is super easy to get dirty otherwise. I have 2 air pumps, a little one for a small constant flow and big one that gets switched for cutting. Overall it's ok. If you're looking to just engrave wood I would suggest a 10W laser, it will be physically smaller and thus able to be driven faster by the machine. This thing is pretty huge for a diode laser, it's about the size and weight of a half full coffee thermos. ... show more
