This was expensive; but worth every penny. I wish I had known about this product years ago. So many hours have been spent on untangling and hand rolling yarn. This gizmo works great for worsted weight and sport yarn. So far, the largest wor sd ted weight skein I've rolled was 12 oz. I wouldn't be shocked if it could handle 14-16 oz. I just received my yarn winder in the mail today. Opened it up and found the cone was damaged (see photo). I did go ahead and test it out. I'm not crazy about it. I think it winds the yarn too tight. Also, the yarn guide is impossible to tighten fully, so it moves around and I have to keep repositioning it. No instructions and if you need to send it back, good luck. It has to be shipped to Canada at your expense (cheapest was $33 from Kentucky to Alberta), even if defective. I'll update if the company works with me to get me a new cone that isn't damaged. If I had it to do again, I'd get a different style of winder or the actual Stanwood. Update 05/13/21: I did work with the company to get a replacement. They sent it to me without me having to return the previous one because I am not willing to pay return shipping to Canada. I received the second one and it also had some gouges in the cone. It also has some weird discoloration in the plastic piece that the cone attaches to (see photos). Not an issue for operation but just doesn't look great, like you'd hope a new product would look. I wound a cake with it and it works well. It's a little hard to get use to the way it works but I think a few more cakes and I'll be good to go. I still think it winds the cakes too tight. I have a Caron Skinny Cake next to me and the cake I wound with this and the Caron Cake has some squish to it but the one wound with this winder has very little squish. I doubt I'll be winding natural fibers on thus for that reason. I don't want to stress the fibers and stretch the yarn out. Acrylic yarn I'll use this when I need to wind a large amount from a skein. Otherwise I'll use my old one that doesn't wind as tight. Ultimately, this just isn't the yarn winder I'd hoped it would be. I'll be saving up to get a different style winder in the future. Till then, I guess I'll work with this and my old one. As for what I'll do with the extra winder, I'll probably find a friend to pass it on to. I certainly don't need two. I do not recommend this product for all the reasons I've stated. ... show more

Great yarn winder. it moves easily. .It is metal. it is strong and it does not squeak and you get perfect cakes with each wind.. Highly recommend.
