I love this thing, it’s quick, holds a good amount of yarn, and is pretty sturdy. If you care, like I do, it also cakes your yarn up in a pretty aesthetically pleasing manner. That’s probably dumb lol Now for the cons: 1. Because it’s plastic & metal it’s obviously noisy. You really won’t find a quiet one unless you dish out a pretty penny for a wooden one And 2. Depending on the yarn type it might slip off the barrel(? Is that what it’s called), I wish there was a way for it to grip the yarn without damaging it. Oh and last thing that is a con, it came with the WORST assembly instructions. If you can’t look at a picture, that’s clearly been copied and pasted and then printed out smaller to fit more instructions onto a single piece of paper, and decipher what that tiny ass picture is of you’re gonna be screwed lol Unless you’re smarted than me and look for a video ... show more

    • Does what it’s supposed to do
I’ve had this yarn winder for about a couple months now and it’s decent for my first one. It’s easy to assemble and use but it barely winds a 4oz ball of yarn and it gets tangled too often. The clamp is also deemed useless because it’s constantly coming loose so I just hold the whole thing by hand rather than dealing with the clamp which is a bit of a hassle but it’s all I got for the time being. I’d suggest investing in a higher quality yarn winder if these things bother you. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. In full disclosure, I was very leary of ordering this yarn winder since there were zero reviews and stars. I am SO HAPPY I listened to my intuition! I almost bought a different winder that was $10 cheaper, but noticed most models were nearly all plastic. The base of this winder is plastic, however, a lot of the internal bits are metal. Assembly was easy enough for my arthritic hands. It feels incredibly stable. Attaches to table top wonderfully. Add the 4 tabs underneath for non skid response. I haven't actually spun any of my yarn in it yet. Just spinning the handle alone and feeling it's working weight, I can tell it will spin perfectly! You can feel a tension pull now and then even without yarn!! I can't wait until i can sit in a pile of yarn and spin away! I will update this review after I wind a few skeins ✌️🧶 ... show more

Purchased for specific reason that it could soon 10 ounces. I am using ombré yarn and do not want to have to cut to make cakes. This barely held 7 ounces. Returned. (Worked great, aside from size)

The media could not be loaded. Wanted a cost effective yarn winder to rewind my skeins to make tufting and crocheting easier, but I didn't expect to fall in love with how effortless and satisfying this winder is! I almost want to go get more yarn to wind! Assembly was a bit tricky as the instructions were very vague and seemingly incomplete but with help from the Amazon listing pictures I managed to get it put together! I have rewound two 40gal totes of yarn and it took less than 24 hours to complete because of how quick and smooth and tight this winder works! Happy with my purchase and looking forward to using up my yarn so I can buy more to wind! ... show more

This has been a game changer! The first time I used it I wound 8 hanks of yarn in minutes! I do recommend a yarn swift to make sure you don't apply tension to the gears as they are plastic.

    • Assembly cost this a star
The assembly on this was brutal. Mainly because there was a crucial piece missing. The little bracket that holds the first feeder arm in place was missing. I bought an 11 cent washer and used some really thin wire and was able to get the arm installed and then covered it with white electrical tape. There was a lot of guesswork and then looking at pictures on amazon and I finally figured out how to get the rest of it put together. The instructions are rather vague. There are two arms attached to the winder that spin the yarn. Guess what? You only thread one of them. Once I got it put together it worked absolutely amazing! After all the problems getting it together it works like a charm! My new favorite toy. It’s quick and easy to use! ... show more
