I'm new to winding up my yarn from its original skien so I don't know a lot about it. I got a smaller one not even realizing it could be too small, so I get this one. It works as intended, it's a bit loud because of the medal gears but otherwise I like it. My biggest complaint is that the piece the yarn wraps around (the bobble?) Is scratched up so my yarn gets caught and gets pulled apart a bit. It's nothing I can't sand down or work around but it was disappointing to purchase something 40 some odd dollars to have it come with such a flaw. But again, I personally am not super distressed over it. It works as it should but is noisy, so just be aware of that before purchasing! Don't expect it to be quiet haha ... show more

This yarn winder is made well , no plastic rears. It will last a long time. Easy to assemble and use. Wish I had gotten it sooner. I hold the yarn with my left hand and the yarn gage.so it does not move as I trunk the handle. I have it on a snack table and use a skid prof cloth under the base.

...it did not arrive properly packaged. Parts were sticking out of the box. Once I opened the box, it included many more parts than expected and no instructions. I pieced things together and tried to follow the instructions I found online, without success. Maybe this would have worked if it was received in its intended condition, but buyer beware if yours arrives like it's cycled through the warehouse a few times! ... show more

This yarn winder did in fact do what it says it should but the clamp on the bottom is in the shape of a L. Because of this I couldn’t find a table that didn’t have something in the way of the L. So I had to use a different clamp I had at home to attach it to the table. Then the long yarn guide bounced all over the place. Another clamp there and o was in business. Love this yarn winder. Only draw back is there is a protruding screw on the clamp that must be covered or it will damage the table it’s clamped to. I attached a strip of rubber to cover the screw which did the trick. Also, I sprayed WD40 to the gears for smooth contact.

The media could not be loaded. Update: I ordered a replacement and this one is still working after a dozen uses. It’s a bit stiff and you definitely have to have the yarn unrolled for smoother operation. You can see in this video my yarn was not unrolled and it fed more stiffly. It holds almost a full skein of big twist plush. The pic in the photo is a completely full skein of big twist plush so you can see the small cake is all it wouldn’t hold. Definitely holds a full skein of Sweet Snuggles Lite and a full skein of most bernat blanket. It works well for me for the money I was willing to spend. Original review: Very tough looking product and it works great for the first several turns. Then, it mysteriously stops working. Directions in the description on Amazon state to turn clockwise. I've gone clockwise and counter-clockwise to no avail. I've tried tightening bolts to no avail. I couldn't find a good way to contact the seller as I simply wish they could tell me how to fix it. Also, some directions on how to attach the lead would be helpful. It needs to be placed under the bolt ring to keep it in place. ... show more
