  • Nice for aerating small spots
Size: Hollow + Spike Tine Aerator
Nice quality aerator that is a manual tool. Easy to store and use but it takes some work. The tunes get plugged up quickly but easy to dislodge with a stick. I was able to do a large area pretty quickly. Very cost effective for small yard

  • It's very sturdy and works just as described. DAMP ENOUGH SOIL IS THE KEY!
Size: Hollow Tine Aerator
I was just out using this tool after a recent rain today and decided I should write my review. Looks like I have had this for a year. First off, the metal is very sturdy. I have no expectation that any normal, or even vigorous use would break any part of this tool. I have used it maybe 10 times in one year. The WHOLE trick to this, as people have described, is to catch your lawn after enough rain. If you do that, this tool goes in smoothly to full depth and works perfectly. Be sure to work backwards with it and you will be impressed at how much you can do in a small amount of time. I work in sections so I don't freak out some joint in my hip or knee by the odd new jerking motions. Maybe I do 25 minutes and then do some more later in the day or the next day. If you were young, and the soil was at the proper dampness, you could a 25'x25' section in well under an hour. Now be aware, that if you lawn is like mine, you may catch a day when just the right amount of your lawn is damp and perfect for this tool to work on almost all of the lawn. But there are still sections of my lawn where the dirt is so compact, or dryer, maybe under a tree, that the tool will only go in 4 inches. I think that is just the nature of most lawns. For those areas, which are maybe 10% of my lawn, you either water them more or just be happy with the 4 inches. The tool seems to clean itself just fine with each push, leaving 4 inch plugs. Again, if the soil is damp enough the soil plugs easily push out with each down thrust. Nothing gets stuck anywhere. The tines have stayed sharp enough to work just like day one so far. I am trying to think of a complaint. The top of the rectangle where your foot pushes down. It might be helpful to have the metal have crosscut lines there or something to create some friction so your foot doesn't slide if wet. I put my foot on the top bar. The Landzie videos show people using the bottom one. Just a preference. The cost? I could see people thinking that is a bit much, if they don't wait till their lawn is damp enough. But I do expect it will last for a lifetime. It is a heavy piece of metal. When I curse up at the sky because of some plastic POS garden tool that has snapped off or stopped working, I always include in my curse to god that I would be glad to pay more if there was just a place to buy well made, metal garden tools. I deem this a rare, well-built garden tool that works just as described on reasonably normal soil - if you use it when the soil is damp enough - just like you would need to do if using a large gas powered aerator. ... show more

  • Quality Product
Size: Hollow Tine Aerator
The project is well made and functions as described and shown in videos. It is quite labor intensive to aerate using this tool - good for small spaces but not practical for aerating large areas. Aerating with this tool in larger areas is physically exhausting work so don’t take on more than you can handle. ... show more

  • Worth The Effort!
Size: Hollow + Spike Tine Aerator
So I had 4XCABG surgery last April and was looking for something to help get me moving again the following March. Boy this little device did exactly that and my gorgeous lawn is a testament to that fact. I live near a lake and have clay for soil. Have tried doing things the "easy way" and just sprayed or broadcast various products looking for that lush green lawn I knew was hiding under all of that clay to no lasting avail. After getting my Landzie I went out everyday for a week and spent hours carefully aerating my clay. People walked by and asked me what the heck I was doing, would comment, shrug and walk off thinking that crazy ol' man is gonna kill himself tearing up his yard. I kept pluggin away though. There wasn't an area of the yard that didnt have a hole every four inches. Once finished with the plugs I broadcast some biochar and let that sit while it rained. I was worried that my efforts were going to be for naught as we also happened to get a pretty rough hail storm as I imagined $80 worth of product washing away and a weeks worth of holes being filled in. Upon review after the storm my holes were still there...not so sure about the biochar but was hoping some got caught in holes before washing away. The plugs were no longer to be found though so after drying out I continued my "exercises" and over seeded the clay and fertilized my yard. It was a long 4 weeks as I watched my yard get over run by weeds. Thought I had really screwed things up as now I had a clay yard with holes, weeds, and was the laughing stock of the neighborhood but I endeavored to persevere. After letting the weed jungle go I hiked up the mower from previous scalping earlier that year (before starting the process) and gave my weeds a good choppin. The next week I put down a weed and feed and let things sit. Well it's now Mother's Day and we have the greenest most plush lawn in the entire subdivision and it all started with this awesome Landzie I got at the end of Feb. When it first arrived I tightened up the screws holding the hollow tines and then sprayed the inside of tines with WD-40. When I left mud in them at the end of the day it was easy to remove the following morning with a screw driver. The Landzie also came with some Yard Jart type spikes but I have not used those yet. This fall I plan to do it all again as the results from this spring's efforts was nothing short of phenomenal. Highly recommend if you're looking for a good activity that will also help beautify your lawn beyond your expectations. Have also spot treated some low lying areas that were a bit slow to grow and some bare areas in shade around some trees and am now growing grass where there was only bare dirt/clay before. For anyone wondering my strength and muscle stamina has improved to the point I feel better than I have in years. Get outside if you can, enjoy the work, the weather, and fruits of your labor. As a side benefit which was completely unexpected my crepe myrtles and other trees have not bloomed and looked this good in years and I truly believe my Landzie made all the difference. ... show more
