We purchased this crate to assimilate our new rescue into the home. It was relatively easy to put together- took two of us. While I wish it was made out of real wood (nothing purchased online ever is), the final product is sturdy. The hardware, including the bars and frame are a nice wrought iron looking finish. The faux wood grain appearance is attractive in our space. We placed it next to the bed and use it as a night stand. The mat that comes with it is simply a two sided fabric inlay with one side made of a liquid resistant type of material. This cannot be used as padding for the crate. We bought a waterproof crate cushion from PetCo which fit perfectly as this crate is a standard size. It is pretty heavy once put together. Turns out our rescue hates crates and is a senior dog so we are unlikely to change that behavior. She became pretty frantic in the crate and did her best to get out but was not able to create any damage to the crate. We no longer crate her as she has proven not to need it. My dog does not like a kennel but needs one. Purchased this with high hopes and was not disappointed. Easy to put together, everything lined up, all tools and extra parts (screws and bolts) included. Instructions were simple and illustrated. Enough room for an Australian Shepard, nice sight lines from inside. The lock could be stronger, there is only one at the bottom) but it works well with the side rolling door. My dog does well in it and sleeps soundly. The media could not be loaded. Easy to build: im not super good at putting things together and i did it by myself. Took a few hours but it was worth it. We got it in November when our dog was a few months old he has grown and now he is a strong pitbull boy so if he has to go potty he knows he can maneuver the barn door to get it off the hinges. So it has been really awesome and he cant get stuck between bars which i love (it scares me that they can get caught in some crates but not this one) and its spacious; he’s about 60 lbs now and his brother is 12 lbs lol and they can both comfortably sleep together. Obviously my other dog is a small chiweenie. I really did like it unfortunately it got a little too broken for us. The wood splintered and i taped it so it works and is safe but we decided to get a new crate for the both of them with more space. We could probably adjust the medal parts (the lock holder and stopper at end for barn door) to make it more difficult to escape but because of the wood it seemed like the best option to get a new one. I do think this is a great crate it’s strong and the bottom is sturdy; it holds a lot of weight of silly active dog, and the top is awesome for just counter space however be gentle opening and closing the barn door so the medal stays where it needs to be! I wouldn’t recommend for super hyper dogs that try to escape cause they can probably find a way lol. Also it can be tucked away if you dont need the counter space. Ours is under our table (i know not for most people) but definitely nice if you have a place to tuck it away. ... show more

Pros - I really like the idea and design. Very sturdy, puts together quickly, and looks great. Cons - The metal piece that holds the sliding door on the rail is very thin. All the dog needs to do is push the door in the corner pictured and the metal will bend and the dog can get out. My dad's 3 month old lab puppy was able to get out. I would suggest adding an additional latch or bracket to this area to keep it from swaying outwards. I'm going to buy a similar latch myself and see if it fixes the problem. Also, a dog could technically bite the vertical railing if they wanted to, as the spaces are large enough. ... show more

I bought the smaller size for one of my dogs. I was super impressed by what I received. The kennel is HEAVY and has lots of metal reinforcement in smart places. I think if you had a non-crate trained dog the locking mechanism would be a weakness, but my dogs like their crates. I like that there isn't a swinging door in the way all the time. When my dogs are just chilling the door can be open for them to go in an out as they like. Putting it together wasn't overly complicated. I built the first one with my step father and it took some time but wasn't difficult. The 2nd one I bought was the larger size, my 12 year old was home sick from school and she put it together herself. She said the instructions weren't as good as the lego instructions. My husband helped tighten all the screws down but other than that not difficult. Now do consider building it where you think it will be. It is heavy so moving it to another room can be a struggle once built. ... show more

However, 5 months later it has come apart :( My French bulldog would only be crated, at most, 3 hours total per week. For the most part, he’s always with us.
