We have a 17 1/2 yr old cat who is 24 lbs & have the 3 largest litter boxes on the market (we've even tried making our own), so I wasn't sure this one was going to work either, but IT DOES. He just used it & not only did he make it INSIDE the box but he also didn't step in urine on his way out of the box. I'm about to do the happy dance because I'm so excited. We've been using the PetFusion BetterBox for about a year now but as his arthritis has gotten worse & he's getting weaker from kidney failure, he could only go in & out from the front & was stepping in wet urine everytime & leaving litter pawprints all over my floors. This is awesome. I have a 16 year old cat that I could not figure out why she has using the restroom right outside the litter box. Her whole life, I never had an issue with this. I was talking to my mom about this and she reminded me that Kitty is getting old and with her arthritis may not be able to get into regular litter boxes anymore. I wasn't sure about it because she is still able to jump up on lower items, but I went online and found this and it was a miracle; she is now going in the litter box again. I thanked my mom and wrote this review because I am grateful that someone out there is thinking about older cats' needs. ... show more

    • Worthless for keeping the pee in the box

I have a 19-year old female cat with severe arthritis who has trouble getting into her old tall litterbox. With effort, she's able to get inside but leaves her rear hanging out, thus peeing on the floor (or rather in the boot tray I have under the box). I thought this new box would solve the problem because it's very large (so she'll be able to fit inside), and has a low entrance (3" high). I was pretty excited to try it out. It's pretty sturdy and well-made. I spent half an hour removing her old litter box and cleaning up and preparing the area for her new one. Within five minutes of me finishing, she climbed in (without any trouble!), went to the middle of the box, and shot a stream of pee over the short walls all over the floor. The problem with this box is the walls are only 5" high. Older cats with arthritis can't squat, so they tend to pee sideways, not down, and these walls aren't high enough to keep the pee in the box. Not only that, but with the low walls, my cat can now exit the litter box in any direction. This leads to scattered litter EVERYWHERE, rather than just at the litter box entrance. What someone needs to make is a large area box (24" x 24" is good - so cats can fit completely into the box without crowding), with a low entrance (3" is a good height), but with high walls (10+") everywhere else to keep the pee, the cat, and the litter in the box (hmm...maybe I've found an untapped market...don't tell anyone my idea!). This box was expensive and, at least for me, definitely not worth the high cost. Very disappointing. ... show more

My kitty loves this box. She has an arthritic back and can't pull up her back legs over a high sided litter box. This is a perfect solution for her. FYI - this box is $11 cheaper if you order off the site kittygohere.com. I just found that out after I ordered from Amazon and wanted to contact the company to see what other products they had for senior kitties. ... show more

Our 10lb bunny and his 4lb wifey use this together all the time. He had trouble getting in and out of regular litterboxes or under the bed storage boxes so this has been great for him. It's a nice size. We do have to clean it a bit more but that's just the way it goes. The product itself is great, but I do wish that it was a little more affordable considering it's a $40 plastic box for animals to poop in. I looked high and low for a cheaper alternative but while expensive, I am glad I got this. Overall, would definitely recommend it. ... show more

Used to be every morning meant cleaning up the mess around the litter box made by our 20 year old Bernie. So, I was very excited when I found this kitty litter box (got the large size) after reading about why older cats often don't use their boxes. (It seems that arthritis makes it hard for them to get in and out of the litter box, squatting in a problem and hitting the sides of the box with their legs can hurt.) First night, still a little bit of urine on the floor near the box - but not a lot. Next night - dry, dry, dry. Hurray!!!!!! This product works! And, it's well-made, the big size is big enough but not too big to make it hard to find a spot for, and the Seller is extremely responsive and customer oriented. (The green box I ordered wasn't immediately available, so the seller tried calling me. When she couldn't get through, she emailed. I selected a blue box instead, and it arrived 4 days before the date it was scheduled to arrive.) We have 2 elderly cats with arthritis and kidney disease, and they were having a hard time getting in and out of their high sided box. They like this box shape much better! It is spacious and easy to get in and out of, and since it is shallow, I think we are saving on litter as well. The one issue is the material. The plastic that is under the litter is a rough texture and does not clean well. We are meticulous cleaning their box, each time we clean pee out of the box, we clean the bottom of the box where the clumped litter was in contact with the plastic with alcohol and cotton pads. I have only had this box a couple days, and the bottom is a mess. Because of the textured material, the stains do not come out when I rub them. So overall, good concept, poor material. Sadly, I can't see this lasting long. ... show more
