  • Good enough if you know what you're doing. (manual and instructions below)
TL;DR change master pin: ★★ + type in current master code (default is 12345678) + # + 1 + type in new master pin + # + type it again (to verify) + #. The light below the keypad should be blinking green during the whole procedure. If it blinks red, you probably typed something wrong. Manual listed here. My opinion at bottom. For starters, the full installation manual: https://www.hugolog.com/pages/ju01-installation-manual You can find the full installation manual by web-searching for "JU01 installation manual." (Google correctly shows the page. Duckduckgo, yahoo, bing does not.) But just in case the link gets deleted/unavailable for whatever reason, I'm copying it into this review below: There are 8 keypad-programmable settings, here they are: 1: change master code (type in current pin, 2: add user code 3: delete user code 4: beeping sound enable (1 = on, 2 = off) 5: enable auto lock (1 = on, 2 = off) 6: vacation mode (# to enable. To disable, just type your master code.) 7: one-time pin number (type pin number + #, verify by repeating) 8: auto lock delay (min = 10, max = 99s) 9: nothing ★: nothing 0: nothing #: nothing The basic format to configure goes like this: ★★ (then) master code (then) select which setting to change (1-9 I guess) (then) set the value of the setting (Then it should beep twice and blink green indicating correct configuration. If it "long-beeps" with the light below the keypad red, you did something wrong.) To access any settings, start by pressing: ★★, then just select the setting you wanna change. (settings 1-8 listed above) My opinion: This product could use some fixing. It technically works, but has flaws. • I received no full manual. The box has some basic instructions on the bottom: setting the master code, setting user code, and deleting user code. • No mention of key features. Nothing in the instructions mentioned about the other 4 features, which are literal selling points. (auto-lock, vacation mode, one-time pins, silent mode.) • The motor & spindle shaft. This lock bit of a problem: if the deadbolt doesn't fully extend (like if the door wasn't fully closed), the inside latch will still be attached to the motor+gearbox. This will probably chip a tooth of an end-of-stage reducer gear. Plus it's only an inch from hot outside weather, so the gears will get soft. Which by the way, feel soft like plastic. Maybe plastic shouldn't be used in a lock's gears. But, to be clear, this only happens when the motor can't fully extend the deadbolt closed. Otherwise, the gearbox is disconnected when fully extended or retracted, which is good. • Plastic housing. The exterior housing is plastic, and feels a bit cheap. I could probably smash the plastic exterior keypad housing and just rotate the cam slot to release the latch and open the door. Why doesn't this plastic keypad have like a plate of metal behind it to prevent someone jamming a screwdriver in the cam slot and breaking in? My Kwikset lock has a metal case with a metal latch. • I wish there was a pin or paperclip or something included. I didn't have one cause my office supplies were still in boxes. Ended up using a twist tie. • I kinda wish ★ and # were replaced with specific names like "configure" (the ★) or "enter/confirm" (the #). What is this? A payphone from the 90s? Am I dialing an operator to unlock the door? • I do really like the fake pin code prefix/suffix feature. Every electronic lock should have this. • I really like the emergency USB power port on the bottom of the keypad. It's super reassuring for me. • It was relatively easy to install. But, I've installed these before, so I already know what to expect. I don't expect my wife to do this easily, as she is not very handy with hardware. But she'd get it done. I want to like this lock, but these are serious problems that don't exist on other brands of locks. Even if this was used for a low-value security lock like a closet or something, I still would NOT recommend this exact model. ... show more

  • Works like it should.
Make sure you have fresh batteries when you set it up. I thought I had a faulty unit but it was the batteries.

  • Tons Features!
This lock rocks!! I was a bit skeptical at first since this product was so inexpensive. I have a similar one by Schlage that cost me 4X and didn't have the amount of features this thing has. Here are some highlights.... * Took me 10 minutes to install and setup * You can turn on/off an auto-lock setting which locks the door after 30 seconds (and the delay is changeable too). * Small footprint on the outside and contemporary design with perfectly matched my black hardware. * You can easily create up to 20 codes which be be like 4-12 characters long (maybe ever longer) * There is no handle to turn and no key needed. My Schlage is similar where I enter a code, but I still have to turn a small knob and it doesn't auto-lock. * Instructions are actually very well documented and easy to follow to do the configurations of the lock. * There's a vacation mode that prevents other codes from being used. * You can enter random digits before and after entering your code to confuse any would-be-thieves who may be looking over your shoulder trying to spy on your code. * Very small lag between entering the code and opening the door, maybe 1 second or so. Really the only thing that it doesn't do is connect to the internet for a remote monitoring of the lock. This is OK for me as I didn't really want someone being able to gain access to my front door. The only negative of this unit for me is that the name of the unit is on big bold white letters. It could have been a little more subdued, but oh well, for under $40 I'll live with the label on the front. I'm not sure yet what happens if the battery power goes out, but I'll read the instructions and see, but I am sure they thought of something given how many other features there are, ... show more

  • Unbeatable for the Price
Before I get too far into this, let me first say this is an excellent budget "Smart" deadbolt. In terms of quality for the price, I haven't seen anything better. You're going to pay at least 100 dollars more for anything even close. Now, that's not to say this is the end-all-be-all deadbolt, but at 30-something dollars it's most definitely a "Why not?" kind of purchase. The Good: Relatively sturdily built. The door hardware itself seems to be made of quality material. It says weather resistant but I wouldn't suggest leaving it to the elements if at all possible, as it is mostly plastic and the keypad appears to be made from a pretty soft rubber material. I have it behind a storm door so it is mostly always protected from any direct exposure. Again considering the price point, it's surprisingly feature-rich. The only aspect that's really missing from this vs. much more expensive options is the ability to access/control it from your phone or via Bluetooth, etc. The Bad: As mentioned it is largely made from plastic and rubber. Really only one big complaint, though: the instructions for programming/customizing your codes/timing for the auto-lock is not the clearest and actually took me way longer to figure out than the installation itself. Bottom Line: If you're in the market for this type of product and don't have it in your budget to shell out 250 dollars, just get it. It's a slick little addition that adds another layer of security to your home and saves you a bit of time fumbling with keys too. ... show more

Dislike the fact that it doesn't come with a key, in case I forget my code.
