  • This bicycle rack is very sturdy and handles my 83lb e-bike with ease!
I have been doing my research on 1.25 inch receiver compatible bike racks that will carry a 80lb fat tire E-bike with 20x4.0 inch tires under $500. I saw a video on Youtube about the KAC platform hitch carrier model KR-BRSDBK. It looked like it was decent quality and had a 120lb carrying capacity. I found one from the seller "My Quick Buy" for $154.99 which was the cheapest price I have seen, my item was shipped immediately and I received it in 2 days. I was shocked at how well built this rack is and how easy assembly was, the hold-down hooks do look cheap online but they are strong and well built. They aren't ratchet style but do come with a keyed tightening knob and have infinite adjustment that hold well. For added security the knobs are keyed so they can be locked in place. The riser that holds the hold-downs is very strong and can be lowered to ease loading. The rack itself can be lowered with a nicely built release handle to aid in trunk accessibility, and it can be folded up vertically a securely when parking. I think the quality of this rack exceeds its price point, and it has a lifetime warranty! ... show more

  • Great rack at great price
I purchased this rack to bring bikes on vacation. I did plenty of research and was choking at paying $500+ for a rack that would only get used a few times per year. This rack had all the features of the higher end racks that I was looking for. It tilts away from my vehicle allowing access to the hatch, when not in use it folds up so you do not need to remove the rack while driving in a city and looking for parking, it has an anti sway hitch arm, it has locking arms and a locking hitch pin which provided me the peace of mind when making rest stops on long drives. The rack is hefty but not heavy. The heft conveys a sense of quality and durability regarding quality of the material. My first trip was from Delaware to Savannah, Georgia. There was never any indication that the rack might fail and I’d lose the bikes despite highway speeds and some rough roads. ... show more

  • 2,000+ mile review, 1 year of ownership: overall good with some flaws
Pros: +Decent build quality +Includes locking hitch pin and locks for bikes +Tilts away from the trunk for access to the trunk +Can fold the sail and rack up neatly Cons: -Heavy rack -Awkward to take on/off Other notes: Be careful tightening the hitch pin, the anti-wobble system threads may be stripped easily if you use a ratchet that is bigger than the provided tool (see picture of the anti-wobble system). The anti-wobble system acts more like a "damper" for vertical wobbling, but side-to-side wobbles for the most part is eliminated. When used with a hitch tightener, most of the vertical wobbling wobbling is eliminated at the connection point to the hitch. I have driven with the KAC Overdrive bike rack on a 14 hour trip from SF to Seattle with my road bike with no issues. I have driven over 2,000 miles with this bike rack so far and it has held up well. I like that the rack can tilt down so I can reach my trunk. Additionally, this rack also provides the locks for the pin and the bikes. I would not leave my bikes locked overnight on my bike rack, but the locks are nice while I make stops on road trips. This bike rack is nicely priced where it provides the features offered in more expensive brands (such as Kuat, Thule), but the design is not as refined. For instance, the bike rack is heavy and awkward to take off, and I have my doubts on the durability of the anti-wobble system. However, these small sacrifices are made up with its competitive price point. Recently, I stripped the threads on the anti-wobble system that the hitch pin goes through. However, I was using my ratchet, which is longer than the provided tool, so it took less force to strip the threads. This rendered the anti-wobble system useless, and I had to get a hitch tightener instead. I contacted KAC customer support, and customer support sent me replacement parts for the anti-wobble system within a few days. Customer support was quick to respond, and overall, I am pleased with the experience. Now, when I tighten the hitch pin and use the hitch tightener, the bike rack does not wobble where it connects to the hitch. ... show more

  • Stable, simple and secure
One year on and time for a review. We love this rack, it's increased our rides out dramatically as it's so simple to attach to the car and go. It is heavy, but that's because it is also so solid. Lifting it out of storage and mounting to the car is super simple as long as you're generally able to carry 50lbs with ease. The tilt feature works perfectly, on our car (Kona) the rear door misses the bikes by 2". The central lock-downs are fine for local runs, the tire straps and additional belt strap are only used on highway runs, which makes loading/unloading a very fast procedure. The locks give us confidence to leave the bikes if away for a short while in a safe location, if someone really wanted the bikes they will always find a way. We use it for ultra light carbon road bikes, fatties with 4.75" tires and steel touring bikes and it adjusts to fit them all. There is a small amount of wobble when driving but no more than I expected from a single central mount. The locking mechanism from the rack to the car is also secure and simple. All in all we love this rack and thoroughly recommend it. ... show more

  • Great add on for my Prius
Got this to hold my bikes more safely when on the road. It fits my tow hitch mount (1.25 inch) on my Prius, and it doesn't shake while driving. The rack is surprisingly secure and keeps my bike in place. I only tested it with one bike, and it holds fine. I can still open my trunk while it is occupied. There is a lock to keep it in the hitch and the same keys work for the rack as well. Definitely worth considering for anyone looking for a pretty safe option to transport bikes. ... show more
