The media could not be loaded. For some reason I had really low expectations for a digital video microscope that only costs $125 (at the time of this review) but this Joyalens microscope has truly impressed me. This isn't just a toy but an actual piece of equipment that I can use for working on detailed projects or spreading the wonders of nature to the kids. I seriously love this thing and they included a lot of little details that make it really versatile. For starters, it's packaged really well. It does require some assembly but it's straightforward and simple and the instructions do a great job of showing you how. It's basically just a the screen/camera unit mounted onto a stand with lights. The stand has a knob that raises and lowers the whole camera/screen assembly up and down. As the camera gets closer to the subject it gets bigger, then you just spin the collar around the camera to focus it on the subject. It's really straightforward and easy to operate and it works amazing. There are two types of lights included. you get a set of really bright LED's that have an inline switch attached to them. You can point the lights at your subject and then use the switch to increase or decrease the brightness depending on what your looking at and the lighting conditions in the room. Even in a dark room, looking at a dark subject, the lights are plenty bright to see all the details at full zoom. The other type of light is a backlit slide viewer. This is a little light box that you plug in that shines the light up from the bottom. This is useful for looking at the included slides which are actually really neat. One of them is even this troglodite/horeshoe crab-looking thing that looks awesome at full zoom. You can also make your own slides and use this light to view them. The screen itself has lots of built in functions. It records pics and videos onto an included micro SD card and you even get a remote that lets you change the screen resolution, start and stop recordings, and change other settings without needing to touch the actual microsope (which is really handy if you're zoomed in really close on something and don't want to risk bumping it). I don't know how to describe how well the zoom works but it's awesome. I included some pics I took of me zooming in on the buttons of the included remote control. You can see the texture of the paint on the little red record button. It's really pretty impressive. Oh, you also get a card reader for viewing saved pics and videos. Overall I couldn't be happier with this microscope. It's simple, it works great, takes nice high resolution pics and videos, and has a ton of awesome features. For $125 I really do think it's a great value and I would definitely recommend it. ... show more

    • A great magnifying camera attached to a monitor.
So this is really just a webcam, attached to some lenses to magnify things really well, with some lights and a 10" screen to view it all. It really does work well. It has a place to put a memory card so you can save your images. It will even save videos. You can use this for science, or for looking at coins or jewelry. I'll tell add more detail further on down, but first I want to give you my immediate reaction. Love it! Wish I had it sooner. If you have kids or grandkids curious about the world or STEM, you want something like this available. When you open this kit you'll discover that they have included everything that you need and more. The components are of good quality. This is not high end industrial or scientific equipment but it is capable of duplicating those results reasonably well. My intent had been to use this for some circuit board work and to illustrate short videos with SMD device testing. However once I saw how good the resolution and work range was, I started playing with all the other things it suggests. Thought about getting a second one just so that I could give it to grandkids and let them experiment. The kit includes microscopes slides and illuminated stage to do transparency micrography. It also has stage and ring lighting for reflected work. The focusing range of this is between 2.0 cm and about 300 Cm. It has a good depth of field throughout that range. That makes its use easy to use. It provides the capability of recording either video or still capture. But because of its open nature, it functions as a great work platform. I've included some pictures but it merely scratches some of the things I wanted to do with it beyond its original intention. The steel base and aluminum column post are both well thought out and machined. Designed for easy assembly, or storage and flexibility in use. There is a little play in the adjustment. However with very little effort you get incredibly sharp images. The lighting that is included runs off the USB plug and allows you a great range of style and intensity and flexibility. I ended up putting little diffusers on the built in stage lights because I had so many reflective surfaces. I was able to take a circuit board images from about 12 inches, that showed most of my work area. Then, quickly zoomed in on a 2.0x3.0 cm. area. The magnification was about 15 to 20X. Even at that close focus I still had a good depth of field and working clearance. The platform itself is machined to take a couple of hold down screws which allows you to customize some things to do. My intention was to use it for electronics work but I can also see a lot of different lab applications, or just experimentation with all sorts of biological specimens. We're in the process of growing some different tomato varieties and I was looking at seed differences. We have livestock and this is going to allow me to check for parasites easily. That will pay for itself after the first vet bill that I saved. Now for some other details there are three separate modes that you can select. Video recording, a still picture mode up to 12 MP, last is playback mode. Each of those modes allows you to select some interesting menu options both in terms of its resolution and timestamps, auto contrast, white balance and exposure. During your video mode you can also switch to a black and white image, do color inversion or rotate the image using a handy remote. The product description doesn't really go into all of the things that this is capable of doing. I'd have to write an article to explain some of the things that we've tried. The advances in cell phone technology and cameras, as well as flat screens has allowed them to assemble a 12 megapixel camera merged with a good sharp lens and display that would have been incredibly expensive just a couple of years ago.
