I've always wanted a microscope. I absolutely love this. I have a young child who follows me every. It's imperative that your child sees you doing good things. I try to do many different things that lead to good examples. Using this microscope and sharing the experience will open up creativity. Besides that I will say that the construction is pretty good with solid parts. I have made some slides of my blood and cheek cells. I was able to see pretty clear and share the images with my family. The kit came with some prepared slides as well as some blank slides with glass accessories. Overall the kit is a fantastic starter microscope. The good thing is that you can easily disassemble the optics for cleaning as well as to upgrade the magnification. Make sure to check the thread millimeter before purchasing higher magnification. The value here is incredible. I did not expect to get the results I've achieved with such a low cost microscope, but the visibility and function are just perfect. I do wish it had come with more blank slides and cover slips, as they are very fragile, but overall extremely pleased with the quality and how much comes with the set up. Pick this one! ... show more

    • Definitely a great intro to microscopes
DEFINITELY better than the USB “microscopes” I purchased this to look at the needles for record players to see how worn they are, and this worked!!! The only thing it’s missing is the ability to move the stage left right or slide up/down But you know what, for 99% of its use, it works great!

    • Disappointing
This microscope is very cheaply made and useful only to show microscope parts and basic usage. The ocular is 25x. That means anything you look at under this microscope is magnified 100x minimum (with 4x objective). Most of the prepared slides that come with this are specimens that are much too large to be viewed in their entirety at 100x. The 2x ocular lens that comes with it can only be used in addition to (not instead of) the 25x. The 40x objective magnification is useless You cannot see clearly with it. There is no way to move the stage. So, you basically have to push the stage clips aside and move the slide with your hand. This is NOT the proper way to move a slide. The cord is very short. You will need to put the microscope on a table that can be positioned against a wall or use an extension cord. There are no instructions on how to use the phone attachments or any suggestions on what to do with the plastic collection assesssories that come with this. The zipper to the duffle bag POUCH broke the first time I zipped it back up. I'm going to keep this strictly because it would be a headache to pack up and send back, and it does give my child some idea of how a microscope works. However, if you have worked with a quality microscope before, prepare to be disappointed. ... show more

    • Not sure if the high power objective works
The scope is not set so that the stage does not bump into the objectives. It seems like it is very easy to attempt to go from medium power to high power and break your slide into the high power objective lens. If you focus on medium, you will probably be too close to the top to rotate the high power into position. I was not able to. I was also afraid to try really hard because I was afraid of damaging the slide or the lenses. As far as beginner scopes go, it set up easily, the light worked well, and it is fun that you can change the color of the light with the diaphragm. If you want to be able to see single-celled creatures, it will probably not work well for that, unless they are huge. Because of the stage rising into the lens issue, I would highly supervise beginner students using the scope to make sure they do not ram a slide into your lens. I can't complain too much as I paid less than $100, so the scope almost met my expectations. If you want to see if you like microscopy, this scope might be good for that so you don't spend too much on a start up hobby. ... show more
