  • High Quality, Rugged and Durable
I don't know what took me so long to order my JOBY Gorillapod 5K kit. Looking back, I could've used this in many other situations--but for some reason, never really considered getting one. Now that I've got it, I'm happy I did. For reference, my camera is a Canon 80D with battery grip--and my lens is the 24-70mm f/2.8. The ball head that comes with the Gorillapod holds my rig nice and snug. The Gorillapod legs stay where I put them with no drooping or sagging. In fact, the legs of the Gorillapod are so stiff, it takes a little muscle to position them how I want (which is perfect). Once I get the thing set up the way I like, it doesn't move. The ball head has is high quality--all metal parts--and the knobs have rubberized grips that make them easy to twist. It almost feels like a fluid head when panning--there's a little bit of smooth resistance. The base of the tripod head has a numbered 360° scale so I can accurately repeat pans and adjust my position. When I go on vacation, I usually bring my monopod. It breaks down into smaller pieces, and I pack it in my checked luggage, so the size isn't that big a deal--but one thing I've noticed is that I don't usually use it once I get where I'm going. For some reason, lugging it around just doesn't sound "fun"--so it stays at the hotel, un-touched. I'm looking forward to using my new Gorillapod on my next trip. It's less than half the size of my monopod, and the ball head is much smaller than the fluid video head I usually use. I can toss it in my camera bag, and if I need a stable shot--I've got it. When I want to go handheld, it goes right back in my bag--no problem. My primary tripod can get fairly low to the ground--but not as low as this Gorillapod. I've never shot macro before, but I'm intrigued by it. With the Gorillapod, I'll be able to position my camera almost at ground level. Having a stable platform that gets me this low and close to the ground might motivate me to get a macro lens and give it a shot! Overall I'm very happy with the quality of this little tripod--and I don't know what took me so long to buy it. I wholeheartedly recommend the Joby Gorillapod 5K kit. ... show more

  • Flawless Performance + High-Quality Build = The Perfect Tripod?
I have a very... For a lack of a better word... Girthy setup. While I have a lighter weight DSLR, my 2.8 lens is massively heavy, especially in vlogging position. In fact, the lighter body and heavier lens makes the camera VERY front heavy. I tried my camera on an old 3k Pod, (grey and black version), and it instantly collapsed (it was old and not as effective, however.) This one, however, works like a charm. I even wrapped it around a railing on a cliff edge with no fear! The red and black color scheme looks perfect with my peak design strap, 24-70 lens, and rode mic. The materials are premium quality, utilizing very grippy rubber for the grips, solid metal for the ballhead area, and high quality plastic. The ONLY CONS: if you want something lightweight, this is not it. The premium quality and top of the line effectiveness for larger cameras requires it to be heavier. If this is your only tripod, its perfect, but carrying around two tripods (like I often do) can be a little heavy. Secondly, I would've liked to see a level on it. The older one had one which rocked, but this one doesn't. While that doesn't matter to me at all for vlogging, it does for photography. ... show more

  • Handy, flexible, very useful
Very easy-to-carry, & light, for quick tripod support when handheld won't cut it - w/extra added benefit of multi-position wrappable / bendable legs; great! In tricky situations, like uneven ground, in tight quarters, etc, it's invaluable & the quick release camera mount is another big convenience. When I need extra stability, flexibility, & quick implementation; I keep my GorillaPod connected to my camera, while I'm still have my strap around my neck & I just hold the Pod legs close to me & I can move around many angles to get the right shot & I just prop the legs on my torso. I can adjust the legs quickly w/gentle pressure & I get sturdier hand-held rapid flexibility; a regular tripod can't give. ... show more

  • Good tripod for full-frame DSLR
I've taken several hikes where a full-sized tripod isn't suitable for off-trail setup. With the Joby 11K I can set it on a boulder, tree branch, or easily get close to ground level. It's very sturdy and stable. I have the 'kit', which means a ball-head and once I have the legs placed firmly I can rotate the ballhead into the desired position. I'm using a Nikon D-850 with various lenses. It rides comfortably and securely on my Lowe Pro Flipside AW 400's tripod strap and pouch. regarding my rating for "Light Weight" it's heavy for its size but much lighter and more compact than a normal tripod. If it was lighter in weight, it wouldn't be as sturdy or stable. Very happy with it. ... show more

  • Hardcore & Stable
I did my research and this was rated as THE go-to tripod for serious DSLR users. It is solid and well made. I don't worry about my cats knocking it over when I set it up on the counter (yes, that could be a problem!) and the ball articulates so well that most of the time I leave my camera on the tripod to make adjustments and just move it where I need it while it's on the GorillaPod. The only drawback is that it is heavy. Too heavy for my wimpy arms to carry aloft for any length of time. If you are a roving vlogger or intend to hike up a mountain, the weight of this tripod will be a consideration for you, unless you have strong arms and / or you plan on upping your weightlifting game.... ... show more

  • Great for travel. Universal needs.
My tripod sticks are too heavy for travel. Not worth paying extra airline fees. The GorillaPod fit well into my carry on camera bag along with a ton of other gear. Folds up nicely for concealment and run and gun shooting. Seems well made to take a beating too. A little pricey for what it is but it's buying me peace of mind that it won't fail me for it's reliability and function. I can see using it to mount portable lights or just being an added extension to my grip kit for those "oh crap" i wish I had a universal thing-a-ma jig mount for something on the fly. ... show more
