Features

  • The Bonsai is our tribute to one of the greatest pedals ever created, the tube screamer
  • A simple rotary knob switches through nine classic, vintage, rare, or hard to find variations of the screamer
  • The Bonsai does not emulate these pedals, it is exact replications of these nine units all housed in one box
  • Choosing a mode on the Bonsai rotary actually activates components specific to each unit

Description

Style:Bonsai In the late 1970's the overdrive pedal was arguably perfected when Japanese engineers designed the sound that we now know as the heart and soul of so many of our favorite artists, recordings and sounds. Players ranging from The Edge, Trey Anastasia, Buddy Guy, Kirk Hammett, John Mayer, SRV, Carlos Santana and thousands more from every possible genre have utilized and depended on this classic iconic green box. If a single effect pedal was chosen to board a Voyager 3 mission and be solely responsible for showing the universe the sound of overdrive, it would undoubtable be Tube Screamer. It is probably the most produced and sold pedal in the history of guitar pedals! The Bonsai is our tribute to one of the greatest pedals ever created.

  • Great Pedal
Style: Bonsai Pattern Name: Pedal
There is a lot of good and useful sounding effects in this pedal. It has the actual chips and NOT a Modeling unit. I really love the TS7. and the 808. The 808 sounds just like my 808 on my board.I put them head to head and the JHS is the real deal. I have never owned or used a TS7 prior to this, but the TS7 setting is a mean sounding overdrive. I am using the TS7 for leads. I think that this petal adds serious versatility to any players board. I love this petal!!! ... show more

  • A great idea nicely done
Style: Bonsai Pattern Name: Pedal
I stopped buying overdrive pedals quite some time ago...im perfectly satisfied with the gain on my amps and with the pedals I already own. Also, ive never really been a Tube Screamer fan. I own a TS9 and its in a drawer...which is not to say they are not good pedals, but i have boost options that preserve my original frequency response and i prefer that. I like what Josh did with the Angry Charlie and that is always on my board, so i thought this pedal was innovative and would allow learning more about the tube screamer options....i am really enjoying this pedal and I am pleased I bought it. I A/B against my TS9 and in my short test, I felt the Bonsai was in the ballpark...but not the same with similar knob setting. Thats not a complete test, but i think it could be very close if i fiddled with the settings...its a dont care for me because all the Bonsai sounds are good as far as I am concerned...there is very little difference between some of the presets, but that may track very well with the original pedals.... Ive found useable and enjoyable settings on each preset and enjoyed the heck out of myself....I like the JHS mode the best becasue it exhibits the least amount of clean-mix with overdrive which is the hallmark of the tube screamer and what I hate about it...however, thats good for pushing an amp front end...i prefer a full clean boost though. In closing, as a standalone overdrive, I am using it off board at home to learn new songs and i really like it....i want to hear the drive and tone of the pedal on its own without being relegated as a front end boost....while i really dislike the standard TS method of having less gain on some frequencies or actually mixing some of the clean with the overdrive, I am enjoying this pedal...i knew what it would be and im learning to like it while I learn about all the TS variants. • So Beyond the hype. It's outstanding
I own so many cool things for guitar players. All the major manufacturers of amps and guitars. I'm not a big shot so I save $$$ and choose very carefully. I average a 50/50 when it comes to reviews = reality as it pertains to pedals. This is a slam dunk. You can't make it sound bad. I feel sad when I look around at all the boutique pedals I have and wish I had my money back. I plugged up to a brutally clean fender twin w a American Strat and played for hours w this pedal. Then the Les Paul- then the Wolfgang- then the PRS- I'm not kidding... All these guitars kept their mojo thru the entire range of gain. The 25/50/100 watt settings give you a massive tone pallet. I'm sold- and I'm gong to buy a spare. Fantastic product. Try it. I can't imagine anybody not falling hard for this pedal. ... show more

  • This does everything
Style: Angry Charlie Pattern Name: Pedal
This should be called an everything pedal. The distortion is just perfectly angry, creamy, silky smooth and wonderful. I cannot say enough good things about the distorted sounds this has given my 65 drri which has the Jensen p12q. What blew me away was that turning the gain down and volume up gave me completely new clean tones to play with. The 3 band EQ is amazingly responsive. Adding just a bit of gain gives some great bluesy dirt. Cranking the gain gives awesome distortion on the fringe of fuzz. I love the tone so much I can't wait to finish typing this review and get back to playing. In fact I thi ... show more

  • LOTS OF DISTORTION IN A GOOD WAY
Style: The AT+ Pattern Name: Pedal
I'm a fender clean stratocaster tone guy. This thing is very different than my preferred tone but in a good way. To me this is really a pedal for heavy lead tone that sounds great with delay. This is a lot of distortion. This is not a overdrive or something to play rhythm with. My favorite part about the pedal is actually the boost without the distortion. It pushes my Fender amp just perfect and sounds amazing. Obviously there are probably cheaper ways to have a boost pedal but I thought I would share that anyway. Overall this is a wonderfull pedal. ... show more

  • excellent overdrive/distortion pedal
Style: Angry Charlie Pattern Name: Pedal
The old adage you get what you pay for definitely applies here. With a stomp of a button I can turn my Fender deluxe reverb amp into a scooped metal machine then dull it down to a gritty blues rock box with slight break up and chewy sustain and everything in between. If you have a valve amp and are looking to step up the quality your distortion or overdrive, this is a great choice. You can operate this pedal at either 9V or 18V with the latter giving yiu a bit more headroom. The buffered bypass is also great as it can put some tone back in your signal if you're running several pedals in your chain (I have eighteen pedals that consist of true bypass, hardwire bypass and buffered bypass). . Expensive but worth it. ... show more

  • The end-all of tubescreamers!
Style: Bonsai Pattern Name: Pedal
Although I already had a Ibanez TS-808 for many years, I failed to figure out how to dial in the tones I had hoped for and I essentially never really used it other than to say "yeah, I have a TS-808." With the down time due to COVID, I really tried to sit down and (again) attempt to utilize the TS-808, only to still find I was underwhelmed. Around this same time I became aware of the Bonsai and purchased one, and within a few minutes after plugging in I had the tomes I wanted, as well as many more. This pedal is fantastic! It's extremely versatile with the selection of so many different tubescreamers at the turn of the dial, I don't really know you could possibly go with any one of the standalone originals. All of the settings sound very authentic and the additional "modded" version setting are extremely cool to have in an arsenal. As I now have the JHS Bonsai on my pedalboard I have sold TS-808 and am very happy with it. I would highly recommend anyone who is looking for "a" tubescreamer stop looking and just purchase the Bonsai immediately! ... show more
