  • Perfect Machine for Beginners and Experts Alike
I have been in the market for my own sewing machine for a few months. My mother has been sewing all of my life, so I caught on to the craft at an early age and enjoyed tinkering on her machine to make little projects. As an adult, I have been making trips to her house to use her machine when needed. I recently decided that I'd like to be able to make and mend at my leisure with my own machine, so I started researching and comparing the top brands on Amazon. I didn't want to spend more than $175 on a sewing machine that I wouldn't be using everyday, but I also didn't want a low-quality machine that would only sew one layer of material at a time. My initial needs for the machine were Halloween curtains, Halloween costumes and leather seat covers for my car. Obviously, I needed a machine that would allow me to sew through leather so I started looking for "Heavy Duty" sewing machines. My first search led me to a Singer, which is what my mother has and what I'm used to. I literally had that machine in my Amazon cart and was about to check out when this Janome caught my eye in the recommended section. After reading the reviews and comparing the two machines, I knew this was the one and I bought it on the spot. I am so glad that I did. This machine performs all the basic functions of any standard sewing machine and it does them extremely well. The speed with which it sews is phenomenal; I finished a quick set of curtains in under ten minutes and was pleasantly surprised with the results. The Exclusive Bonus Bundle is also fantastic. The other machine I was considering hardly included any extras, but this one has a full pack of extra bobbins, two packs of replacement needles, replacement presser feet, and a METAL (not plastic) 4-step buttonhole foot as well as a detailed and helpful instruction manual. It has the ability to sew 12 different stitches (I have only experimented with a few, but they have all worked beautifully) and I have not had issues with my thread breaking even once (a far cry from my previous sewing machine experiences). I find myself looking around the apartment for things to mend or re-purpose so that I can keep using my machine! When I'm finished with a project, my extras and tools go inside the slide out compartment on the machine, the dust cover goes on top, and the machine and power cord go into the closet. I don't have to leave it out because it's too heavy to move, and it's always a breeze to set up; just plug it in and go! All in all, I couldn't be more pleased with this purchase. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned seamstress, this machine offers a top quality performance to help you create beautiful projects with ease. I recommend the Janome 2212 Sewing Machine one hundred percent. ... show more

  • Good machine for beginners
I purchased this machine back in June of this year & waited a bit to review. I am a complete beginner & chose this machine because of good reviews & the fact that it comes with a paper instruction manual which I refer to often. Overall I really like this machine & have used it almost daily to piece the top of my first quilt & also to alter my jeans to fit better (use a denim weight needle for that) I had disassembled the bobbin hook, race, etc & assembled again to clear out dust & fuzz . After that my needle kept jamming in my bobbin holder. I consulted the manual & googled about the problem but could not figure out what the problem was. After 2 days of sweating over it I I took it to a sewing machine shop & the very helpful man showed me that I had reassembled the bobbin case plastic screw holders bottom up ( instead of top down). This is not clear in the instruction manual so I wanted to make it clear in case anyone else was having the problem. When assembled correctly both plastic tabs will cover the metal dot on each side. you should not see the little metal dot. I hope this is helpful. ... show more

  • The Janome 2212 -I love this Tank. (like tough)
I have been sewing for my whole life. This is my 5th machine, and I currently own 3. This is my first Janome. Mostly I sew military gear, basic items like curtains, hems, patches, name-tapes, pillow cases, tablecloths, with a few hard core items like sunshades, outdoor curtains, and back packs. I bought this sewing machine to handle the tougher jobs that my expensive and delicate Viking cant deal with (experience =repair shop). The Janome 2212 can power though mostly everything and not get tangled up underneath. When she does get snarled I can plow through by using the hand wheel and keep on sewing. This is an awesome sewing machine!!!!!!!!! Very basic. Very easy. Very strong. I Recommended this machine for beginners that don't want to by a Rolls Royce as they make sure they want to sew and/or while they learn. I also recommend this machine if you want to do basic stiches on thick materials or multi-layers. It does fine on delicate work - but I wanted it for the harder thicker materials and jobs. If you want a machine that can sew through almost anything- and don't need a bunch of fancy stitching- here it is. Highly recommend. ... show more

  • I like this machine as it is quite sturdy and have ...
I like this machine as it is quite sturdy and have good youtube reviews. I have repaired about 6 pairs of pants as a result of using it. But I do find some problems. 1. Making bobbin - sometimes the thread reel can spin off the holder and wrap the thread around the bottom or top of the bobbin rack instead. 2. Thread coming off needle - this is quite annoying for me at times, threading a needle through a small hole is difficult for a senior. Sometimes it took an hour to resolve the issue and 5 min to do the job. Frustrating. 3. Thread does not sew tidy - sometimes the threads are bunched together and does not make for very neat sewing. 4. I use cross stitch quite often for my pants, and the cross-stitch appears on the outside also. I better have matching color threads to hide them. 5.The stitch removal tool that comes with the machine is just what I need to remove the stitches. In general, I wish things would be smoother for this machine but not so. I waste a lot of threads and time to fix issues instead of doing sewing. Hope things can improve as I get more experienced. ... show more

  • Basic machine
I have not used it very much, other than to put everything together, thread a bobbin, thread the machine and check out if the tension is good on a few pieces of scrap. All check out ✔️. My fancy-pants Singer bit the dust after trying to get it fixed, and spending too much to do that. I just need to be able to do some basic clothes repairs and to sew some very simple baby toys to stuff. Probably some new curtains too. The reviews were good and the price was right. It came in two days and very well packaged, with no damage. ... show more
