We now have a “pack” of rescues. They take time, consistency, patience, a lot of love, and the right equipment to…civilize. We’ve tried so many harnesses, vests, collars, and leashes at various price points with disappointing results. Our most recent addition is a 2 y.o Pittie mix with a sweet disposition, lots of play energy, super smart, strong, and eager to please, but with triggers galore from previous abuse and surviving on his own. We needed a sturdy vest with leash clips and quick release options in all the right places, which would adjust with his growth (and much-needed weight gain), wouldn’t chafe (he arrived with terrible scars from a cheap nylon harness), a handle on top just in case, a place to store treats and poop bags, and reflective safety markings. This vest does all that and more: Once we adjusted to proper fit (2-3 finger rule- not too loose or tight, with room to move and rest) it’s worked as intended, and with a bonus: it also works like a “thunder shirt” with a calming effect for this guy! It’s adjustable in all ways for a perfect fit with padding between skin and straps, with no chafing anywhere. The clips and slide adjustments are sturdy and configured to stay put, with room to modify in all directions as he grows. The straps are sturdy and generous in length; can thread back into the adjustment slides for expansion later, or if full grown, can be cut shorter and the cut edges melted to prevent fraying. The coverage of his torso and abdomen was crucial when we were surprised by a larger aggressive unleashed canine in an unpleasant encounter that could have resulted in significant injury and an expensive vet bill if he’d been in a regular harness or short vest, and that top handle has been invaluable to control him during ptsd episodes which take time to pass. Oh…and it also helps tremendously with pulling on walks, and the front.chest and 2 top leash connectors are also perfect for leash, walk, and behavioral training. I don’t say this often, but I can highly recommend this product over others more (and fur sure less) expensive. Sizing is important. Measure well. There are so many ways to adjust these. Don’t go too big; be sure it’s not too long under the belly so it won’t be in the way when they pee. Our guy is a longer leaner pittie mix at 65 lbs. The large was too long, and the medium has been great. I’m not sure this would be a good choice/a bit overdone for a very small breed. ... show more

It was super easy to adjust the correct size, I love that the clips open so you can get around the legs with ease, the quality is phenomenal, very heavy duty and will last a long time. Bonus, it looks amazing on my pup. I’ve noticed I have more control with her not pulling when we walk. The front clip causes her to come back around to me. It did take about 3 weeks for it to arrive, but I knew what I was getting was high quality, so it was worth the wait. ... show more

TLDR I bought XL size in ranger green for my male 75lb golden retriever service dog. It’s perfect. I can’t say enough good things about this harness. In 26 years of Amazon purchases this stands out as being one of my top ten Amazon purchases. I tried multiple others in stores and high quality brands and found others are cheaply made, flimsy, badly designed, poorly fitting - even after spending much much more than this one cost. I was VERY skeptical about an online order and thought in the end I had no other good choices. This one is rugged and the 7 adjustment areas enabled me to fit it perfectly. I did take a good 20-30 minutes setting the adjustments as soon as I received it. Initially there was some wrinkling and I saw that’s because neck adjustments were too short so I extended neck to the full length and this enabled the harness to sit on his body much better - and it didnt get in the way of his privates at all (which I was worried about given full body cover). The straps are long - there is space designed to tuck in the ends. The back handle is sturdy and looks like it will last years. There’s enough space behind his front oxsters so it doesn’t rub anywhere (like the old one did). All in all he seems comfortable for wearing as his new working harness.     • Good Basic Coyote Protection

Coyote attacks are becoming bolder and more common where I live. They come in from East County to kill our cats and small dogs. Tho most of the time we only see 1 at a time, it's common for them to hunt in pairs. 1 draws the attention of the prey by acting like it wants to play and the 2nd lies in ambush. The ambush coyote attacks from the rear biting the legs of the prey so the prey will roll over on its back. 1 coyote will crush the throat and the other tears out the victims stomach. Coyotes have stalked and injured small children, Rottweilers, adult German Shepherds and other large dogs. You can watch videos of them trying to lure large dogs on YouTube. You'll be surprised at how bold and clever they are. Had I not spotted a coyote in ambush and yelled a warning to my dog in time, my dog would've ran off to "play" with the luring coyote in heavy brush in a canyon. I would not have been able to reach my dog in time to save her in so much brush and at such a distance away. Immediately after that incident I began putting a 2" spiked collar along with this harness on my dog every time I take her hiking. Tho there is coyote protective wear specifically made to mitigate an attack on a dog their design often doesn't offer much abdominal protection. This particular harness covers more abdominal area of my dog and the buckle system keeps the harness snug and secure. The only thing I like to see the manufacturer do is come up with a way to insert some kind of flexible protective panel to the top and abdominal area of the harness or double the thickness. Problem with doing that is it could make it more uncomfortable for the dog to wear for any length of time. True canine body armor is pretty expensive and heavy. This harness is a good design, is rugged and offers at least some protection that most other harness designs don't. Coupled with a spiked collar and "appropriate tools " in which to defend your dog if attacked, I recommend this particular harness as the best you can find for the price. ... show more
