I have an Engineering background - some in Aerospace industry and some in my own company. I am not returning the product due to any quality issue. As matter of fact I was quite impressed with the quality and design. The seal design was far better than the one I had. The overall design and quality was great. iwas simply WAY larger than i imagined. The overall size would not allow replacement without COMPLETELY redoing the entire plumbing system. Actually I felt it was superior in design to the one I had used for the past 20 years. For someone using it on a new pool filter system - It would be my immediate choice! It is the best buy and quality I have seen. The capacity for the 3''tablets was at least TWICE my old one. I plan on contacting the manufacturer to see if a smaller version is available. ... show more

this is a simple, easy to install, plumb, and use chlorinator. the price is generally very good. I initially had difficulty removing the lid to replace the chlorine tabs, but Magic lube fixed that. The real downfall is that I have to replace it every year as the side wall about two inches above the outflow cracks and leaks. three units and each cracked in the same spot. I would recommend it, but be prepared to replace it annually. ... show more

Let me start out by saying I normally do not write reviews about products. However, this is a terribly made product. Usually people will write a review about a product because they want to voice their opinion about how bad something is or how good something is. They usually don't take time out of their day to say, "Hey, this product as OK." With that in mind, this is one of those products that was bad enough that I thought I should voice my opinion. I got this chlorine feeder to replace my old in-line model that broke a leak. I purchased this because it was a good price but ultimately when it arrived it did not meet expectations. First it was my fault that I didn't know the difference between an in-line and off-line chlorine feeder. This is an off-line one, meaning you have to tap into your pipes to make it work (not just screw it into the existing pipe). It comes with 2 non-specialized band clamps that really do nothing to keep the drill holes you have to make from leaking. They should provide you 2 additional clamps or clamps that are designed to hold down a plug around the sides of it not just on a single edge (you'll know what I mean if you buy this). I ended up buying 2 additional clamps to hold the plug taps in place and I wish that was the only problem. When I did finally get it installed per the instructions, I noticed a sizable leak coming from the chlorine feeder inlet. I tugged at the inlet side and the whole plate came off. Please note that this is not supposed to come off. This is supposed to be a permanent plastic weld that keeps that piece water-tight and in place. Well, thinking that perhaps it was just a slight manufacturing defect, I decided to get some glue and let it cure overnight to fix the inlet side. (fast forward to the next day) I hooked the unit back up and in about 5 minutes the outlet side started dripping. I gave a slight tug on that side and it was the same problem, the plastic welds were not strong enough to keep them in place. Since I had already glued the one side, I couldn't sent it back so I came back to amazon and ordered a Hayward CL200. No more crappy tapping into my pipes and the build quality is 100% better. Don't get me wrong, I like saving money as much as the next guy but the hassle wasn't worth it this time. The CL200 is double the price of the Hydro Tools 87503 but you're getting a 100 times better product. Even the lid is a better design. You don't have to super tighten the CL200 to keep leaks from coming out of the top because they have this floating lid design. I'm not here to sell you on a CL200 but I am here to try to persuade you not to waste your money on this. Hopefully you find this review helpful. Have fun swimming! ... show more

I just installed the chlorinator and expect at least 5 yrs of service. I have a 18ft x 33ft above ground pool. I use a mineral Nature2 sanitizer and the chlorinator. Results are excellent! I refill the chlorinator with (9) 3" tabs maybe every 3-4 weeks. It depends how hot the days are.

Nothing fancy but it got the job done. Chlorinates with 3" tablets perfectly. If using pool hose you'll need to get threaded fittings with pool hose ends. No real instructions but after looking at it for a minute I figured it out quickly. Not made of the thickest or best materials but with some patience and the right fittings it'll work fine. ... show more

UPDATED 8/13/2019 The lid o-ring broke 2nd time I opened it but I was expecting that from other reviews and pre-ordered a 2-pack when I purchased it. I put in the new o-ring and filled it with tabs about a month ago. Now I can't get the lid off!!! I tried using a small piece of wood and mallet to tap at each of the 5 stick out tabs.... kept trying.... kept going around... until one of the tabs broke off and I still cannot open the lid!.... I eventually got the lid off using a long adjustable wood clamp as a make-shift wrench. I plan on putting some pool/spa o-ring lube on the threads and hoping that helps for next time. Great price and works as expected. Super easy to install with included adapters and some PVC glue. I read warnings about the fumes so I took precautions the first time opening.... but it wasn't enough! This is what I do now. Loosen the cap until air can get out and then RUN. Stay away for 10 minutes. Then slowly return to remove the cap the rest of the way while holding your breath and RUN AGAIN. Wait 15 minutes and then go back to fill it with pucks. Seriously.... this thing will sting your eyes and burn your throat from 8 feet away. I don't really mind because It lasts a long time before needing to mess with it. I'll work on other things like cleaning the filter while waiting for the fumes to dissipate. I assume similar setups would still need careful handling as well. ... show more
