  • Looks good functions not so good
Style: 1 Floodlight Color: Black | Single Floodlight Camera
In the beginning it was great, a perfect alternative to the nest but 6 months later it doesn't do motion alerts anymore. Regret getting it as it stops working after the return window closes.

  • Needs A Lot of Improvement
Style: 1 Floodlight Color: Black | Single Floodlight Camera
This would be a very good system if it worked how it was supposed to. Unfortunately, the manufacturer seems to have made some design decisions that sacrifice performance for cost, which makes the unit less expensive but ruins its performance in many ways. First, the fact that the camera will only work with the decade old 2.4 GHz wi-fi G and N standards slows down wireless connectivity to a crawl. They use a cheap wi-fi chipset that does not support wi-fi AC, which is really needed for a decent high resolution image. Secondly, the CPU that powers the system is entirely too slow to handle video streaming of this quality, which adds a serious lag to the signal and results in the picture often dropping out completely. Lastly, the fact that the signal has to go through a third-party server makes video quality far, far worse than it needs to be on a wi-fi connection and almost impossible to use remotely over the internet. Even if you have the best internet connection in the world, the manufacturer's choice of internal hardware and connectivity options make using this device frustrating, at best. Completely worthless, at worst. The floodlight system definitely works. However, I am starting to regret replacing my existing floodlights to make room for this model since the LED bulbs that I had in place before were much, much brighter than the ones connected to the Swan product. They can not be replaced with other, larger bulbs, either, as the LEDs are fixed in place. As I said, this would be an excellent system if the manufacturers had made some different design choices. For less than $20 in additional parts and some better attention to design this could have been an awesome system. As it is, it is barely worth using at all. ... show more

  • As of July 1, 2020, my cameras are completely useless
Style: 1 Floodlight Color: Black | Single Floodlight Camera
On July 1 of this year (2020), there was a forced update to a new app. Prior to that date, my 2 floodlight cameras had been working well for about a year. Sure, there were some false detections, but overall they were reliable and they were 100% at notifying me when I was expecting someone to arrive at the house (this is a remote property). Fast forward to the "new app" that you're forced to migrate to. My cameras now go on and offline constantly, prompting a notification each time. Most of the clips that it captures can't be played back (I can see the thumbnail view, but upon pressing play it says "Unable to load clip"). The prior app had no issues playing back the videos, but the new app, in the rare case that it can actually "load the clip", plays too fast and then too slow. Very odd. Also, the preview image is in a different aspect ratio than the clip. Not a dealbreaker by itself, but sloppy, and something that wasn't an issue in the old app. Everything came to a head this weekend, when I got a notification that motion had been detected at our property. Upon looking at the thumbnail, it appeared to be a person walking around. This is not normal... maybe they're breaking in, maybe they're stealing boats from the back of my house, maybe someone innocently walked up my driveway. This is why I got the cameras. Immediately, I tried to play back the video to answer these questions, but received the message I've become accustomed to ("Unable to load clip"). This is a bummer, as I won't be able to return to the property for over a week. Maybe something was stolen, or maybe not. This is exactly the reason I purchased these cameras, and they have failed, miserably. Time to replace them. ... show more

  • Pretty good, even if not pretty.
Style: 1 Floodlight Color: Black | Single Floodlight Camera
Flood lights have been banned to a single purpose for long enough, as Swann now does the logical next step of integrating a camera for a more granular security feature. I have a traditional motion sensor light in my back yard, and although we do have deer occasionally stopping by, it's always a bit startling at night when suddenly the lights turn on and nothing's there (anymore) by the time I get to the window. So the Swann Floodlight security system seems to fit the task to actually record what might have triggered the light (or even alarm). Let me start with the obvious; as the flood light design is relatively traditional and "attractive" does not apply in my view point, but it's purpose built and typically higher up and therefore out of sight. Regarding the installation height, Swann does give a minimum of 8.5 ft but no maximum. The motion detector seems counter-intuitively located 90 degree from the camera orientation, until you realize that the sensitivity of that detector is in line with the (125 degree) field of view of the camera. Still, the camera orientation also somewhat limits the installation height and my initial location is 20 ft high (2-story house) which doesn't work for this device as camera angle and reach become awkward quickly at such heights aside from motion detector woes. Of course the night vision capability limits the installation height further as it's rated to capture (grainy) video up to 33 ft in 'total' darkness. (My back yard is fairly void of artificial lighting and can be very dark.) Installation is easy enough and for replacing existing lights, keep in mind that this flood light's security function of course cannot function (including camera) when powered off. Also, the installation via center screw requires a compatible electrical box (specifically for applications like this). The most important thing to remember, however, is that this device needs WiFi and preferably a strong signal to support the video feed. Of course you also need internet connection and remember that it's the upload speed that matters for the video and response time (while often only the much higher download speed is advertised). Once installed, the 2,600 lumen are bright, but not outrageously so as they nearly match the light they replaced (also rated at 2,500 lumen). The not very attractive light fixtures are function in that they can be oriented to where you need them. The LED allows for instant response and function in cold weather, which is something that the (now outdated) CFLs often cannot claim. The video feed is reasonable with 1080p which allows for enough detail in sufficient light to make out faces (provided they're looking into the camera and higher up the less likely that is). Personally, I don't see myself using the siren and have yet to figure out if the 2-way conversation may be useful on a regular basis (it's may help to coral the kids for dinner). I'll need more time with this device for a final verdict, but for now it seems to be right ointment for my backyard ails even if the (sporadic) light triggering culprit has not been back. It does allow for remote surveillance and that does give some piece of mind when away from home (it's now complemented by a video door bell for the front door). ... show more
