  • Not What I Ordered...
...Though I clearly ordered the indoor version of this controller, I received the outdoor version. I have noticed other commenters having the same problem. This sounds like a petty item, but when you are replacing a unit that has already been installed and matched to your home's mounting arrangement, it is a significant problem. Rather than send the unit back, I made the modifications necessary to mount this outside unit indoors. If the supplier has a surplus of the outside units and wants to "move" them, they should be aware that it causes "replacers" no end of problems and this practice should be halted. ... show more

  • Liking It So Far
This controller was purchased to replace an older Hunter outdoor controller. The control dial on the old unit had worn out and we weren't able to reliably select functions or enter other needed data. We had a landscaping/sprinkler service install it. The technician had trouble getting it to fit where the older unit had been without some wiring showing at the bottom, but the unit is inside a closed garage, so no worries about the weather getting inside. This controller is identical to its predecessor in terms of programming features, so it was easy to set up. It works just fine on our 8-zone sprinkler system. The previous Hunter controller lasted around 11 seasons - which, after initial programming, didn't really entail much manipulation of the control dial, so I'm at a loss to explain it wearing out, but it did. All things considered, we like this unit very much. ... show more

  • Buyer beware
Easy installation but only one program works. This is second season and only works on one program. “A”program runs though set- up and then promptly repeats its self. “C” program is an early evening set-up that runs though it’s settings and when finished switches on its own to “B” program. The only program that runs as set up is “B”program. All run times in each programs have been turned off but one, but still behaves as described above. Either I’ve erred in programming or this thing is possessed. ... show more

  • Good unit but questionable longevity
This is a replacement unit for the one that was installed in my home by the builder. Instructions are clear and easy to use, lots of nice features. The builder was required by my municipality to install an auto-shut-off rain sensor in the system which is worthless, so don't waste your money on that accessory. But overall I have been very satisfied with the performance of the original unit. However, my home is a new build that is only 6 years old. I just helped my mom replace an identical unit at her house that was 25 years old, so not sure why mine konked out after only 6. Maybe my first one was a dud? Time will tell... ... show more

  • Very easy to install
It took about 30 minutes to replace my ~25 year old Hunter controller. This new unit has features I did not have on the old Hunter controller. Very easy to setup station times for automatic use or for manual station select sprinkling. I am very pleased with the functionality and the ease of replacing the controller. Hunter did a nice job designing this unit. ... show more

  • Oudoor not Indoor
I'm sure this works fine, but I've ordered the INDOOR model XC800I twice now, and they keep sending the outdoor model XC800, even though I have explained the difference to the online customer support. This is replacing an indoor model with dial problems (quite typical for this unit) so I'd like the indoor model for the right fit. Maybe you will have better luck than me. Pictures show the outdoor model i received, and the indoor unit (there's 2) I'm trying to replace. The outdoor unit is thicker and the wiring is set up a bit differently. ... show more

  • Hunter XC800I X-Core 8-Station
This unit was a replacement for a defective 15 year old Hunter controller that has also been discontinued. I was able to directly replace the old unit with this new unit with a few mounting position modifications. Most of the features were the same as the older hunter unit and with a read of the instruction manual I was able to figure out the differences and fully use the new unit. I do like the "test" features of the unit that help me verify my electrical connections to the valves. Note that I would suggest that you place a quality surge protector in line for the power pack. I believe that a line voltage surge is what killed my old unit. ... show more

  • With the instructions at hand, it is easy to setup
This was a replacement for a until that was more than 5 years old. I do now know the actual age of the unit, but when we bought the house 5 years ago, it worked very well. It died about 3 months ago and a replacement had to be installed. We decided to go with the same brand. It has been a great unit. Easy to install, easy to configure and very reliable. We will probably use the same one on our next installation some years down the road. ... show more
