Didn't know what to expect but the kids wanted a tree train so I ordered this one. Size is perfect and the train stayed on the tracks no problem. Not too loud and the smoke is really cool. I did order some extra straight pieces so its fit better around our 10' tree, would be perfect as is for a 7' I would guess. Only part I didn't like is if you start it it don't turn off until you turn it off, a remote or a 5 or 10 minute turn off timer would be nice. I bought this train set to go under the Christmas tree. The round track is the only I assembled. It is not very large but went around the tree without having to remove items that were under the tree. It is easy to assemble. The tracks lock and the train stays on rather well. Smoke does indeed come out of the chimney. A plastic bottle for the chimney smoke is provided. One application of water puts out smoke for a long time. The remote is a wonderful feature although it took me a while to learn to use it. If I remember correctly, the sequence is push power button once, then push the train symbol, then push power button again. There is also a button to make the train sounds. It also has lights. I have young grandchildren and great grandchildren. It is impossible to keep them from getting the train off the track but it is easy to get back on track. I think I played with the train more than anyone else. Very nice addition to the Christmas tree and an old fashioned treat you don't see so much any more. Charming and works very well. ... show more

We got this, just as a kinda cheap train to put around the bottom of our tree, so that our granddaughter and grandkids can come and play without worrying about the expense. Let me tell you it was amazing they love the smoke blowing, which was easy to deal with just put a little water in the battery. Life on the train was very good, all of the grandkids loved playing with it and thought it was the greatest thing in the world. It stayed on the track very well. It took abuse very well overall I could not say enough about this. I think it was great. The train set looks nice and set up easy but stopped working within about 30 minutes of use. I replaced the batteries as it had drained them that fast. We also had some issues with the steam where it would just randomly stop running. I cleaned it up and let it dry out which made it work normal again, but it isn't appealing that one of the main features can't really be used. I basically just let it sit stationary under our tree- I am giving it 3 stars mainly for looking good but would only go 2 stars for functionality. I'd recommend going for something a bit higher quality. ... show more

This is a really nice train set, especially at the price point (I purchased for $40 USD). We were surprised. We have bought different sets over the years that were much less quality at the same price. We got the one without a remote control. The steam feature is really neat! It comes with some extra wheels and coupling replacement parts so that is nice. The on/off switch is well placed and the quality of the train engine and cars feels good. It’s also a good size, larger than I expected! The noise is really fun but a hair louder than I prefer, though not bad. The track is pretty much unusable if you don’t use the included lock pieces so be sure to do that (the movement of the train itself can shift the tracks just enough to come apart if you don’t use the locks). It’s cute and moves at a good speed, and the options to make the track in different shapes is great. You can get a little bit better quality train at a higher price point but I don’t know that the price difference (about twice as much) would necessarily be worth it in this case because this train is actually a decent quality! Depends on your usage and needs (for instance, Christmas decor and kids playing vs. serious train collector). Overall I recommend! ... show more
